Chapter 127: Chapter 92: Faster, Higher, Stronger

“Xiaochen, throw it again! Give it a try!” Li Rui said, visibly excited as he quickly backed away from the landing area.

At this, Chen Jue tried the same rotational technique again. This throw also landed past the 18-meter line, though it wasn’t as far as his first, only reaching 18.11 meters.

Clearly, the successive explosive throws had caused his stamina to dip.

“Teacher Li, how’d I do?” Chen Jue asked, glancing at where his two throws had landed. They were a long way off from the results of the two big guys nearby.

He thought he had done poorly, so he was completely unprepared for the praise Li Rui lavished on him.

“You’ve already surpassed the standard for a National Elite Athlete!”

“And you’re even using the most advanced rotational technique!”

“Are you sure you’ve never trained professionally in shot put before?”

Li Rui’s eyes lit up. He felt like he had truly stumbled upon a hidden gem this time.

As Li Rui conducted Chen Jue’s physical assessment, he mulled it over and had a sudden realization. The seemingly eclectic mix of sports Chen Jue had mentioned before—like Rock Climbing, traditional Martial Arts’ Hidden Weapons, javelin, and Archery—all primarily focused on developing upper body Strength.

Combined with his observation that Chen Jue was relatively weak in running and long jump, it became clear that his lower body Strength was underdeveloped.

Putting it all together, he guessed that Chen Jue’s true talent would lie in field events that relied on upper body Strength.

He hadn’t expected that Li Rui would discover this flash of brilliance just by having him try the men’s shot put.

“It really is my first time. Did I do something wrong?” Chen Jue asked, feigning uncertainty.

“Nothing’s wrong! You did great!”

“Domestically, our shot put technique has always been a bit behind. Even now, many of our active athletes are still using the traditional glide technique. Very few use the rotational style.”

“In fact, in the European and American field event scene, the glide is already outdated. All the top-tier international athletes are using the rotational technique. When it comes to shot put results, we really are lagging far behind,” Li Rui explained.

The domestic shot put record is currently 20.41 meters, whereas the world record has been pushed to 23.51 meters.

This isn’t just about a difference in Strength between ethnicities; it’s more about the disparities in technical mastery and daily training methods.

Take Su God in the 100-meter dash, for instance. When he was using traditional domestic training methods, his times were capped at the 10-second mark.

It wasn’t until he hired a foreign coach, intensified his Strength training, and changed his starting posture and his method of power delivery throughout the race that Su God, an Asian, was able to clock a 9.83-second 100-meter time. This just goes to show that the athletic Constitution of Asians is no worse than that of Black or White people.

Of course, after hearing Li Rui’s description of the shot put’s technical principles, Chen Jue finally understood just how badass the rotational throw he’d pulled off—based on the feel of his Max Level Hidden Weapon skill—really was.

It had allowed him to leapfrog the basic glide style and immediately tap into the most advanced throwing technique in the modern world of shot put.

All he could say was that Max Level [Hidden Weapon Throwing] was the GOAT!

Of course, Chen Jue’s two shot put throws had also triggered “+5” and “+4” notifications for his [Hunting Throwing] Skill Level, confirming his earlier suspicion about the sport.

Tracing its origins back to the time of our ancestors, the act of throwing a shot put, much like throwing a javelin, had indeed been developed for hunting.

…

After the shot put test, and having seen those two throws break the 18-meter mark, Li Rui became even more convinced of how incredible this “sports enthusiast,” Chen Jue, was.

It’s extremely difficult for an ordinary person to close the gap with a trained athlete relying on raw physical attributes alone.

Let alone trying to beat them in a professional Skill they’ve trained for day and night—that’s even more impossible.

By the time Chen Jue finished the javelin test, launching one 68 meters, Li Rui was even more certain of his thoughts. ‘This Xiaochen is something else!’

‘Another improvement of over two meters compared to my last try. Is it because my arm Strength has increased recently?’ Chen Jue wondered, looking at his javelin result.

This tangible progress was exciting for Chen Jue.

However, after the last few javelin throws, Chen Jue felt an overwhelming fatigue. He plopped down on the grassy infield of the track and began to pant heavily.

As for Li Rui, after recording Chen Jue’s physical assessment results, he squatted down beside him and began to analyze in earnest. “Xiaochen, I’ve collected most of your athletic data now.”

“From what I’m seeing, your upper body’s explosive power is already at the level of a First-Class Athlete, maybe even approaching the standard for a National Elite Athlete.”

“Your lower body, however, is a different story—it’s only at about a Third-Class Athlete’s level. Your core Strength is also lacking, your endurance is below average at best, and your flexibility needs improvement as well.”

“Measured against the athletic standard of ‘Faster, Higher, Stronger,’ you still have many areas that need improvement.”

“That said, for an amateur to reach your level is incredibly impressive! If you weren’t just an auditing student, I’d even want to recruit you for the Jiang University team.”

After listening to Li Rui lay on the praise thick enough to be considered flattery, Chen Jue played the part of a humble student and asked sheepishly, “So, about my training plan…”

“Rest assured!”

“That rotational throw of yours just now gave me a ton of ideas. I’ll go back, look up some of the most advanced international training methods, and put together a professional training plan for you.”
