Chapter 433: Rainn’s Heart
At this moment, there were no longer the people of Miko City in Rainn’s eyes.
There were no more conflicts in the Abyss.
There was no longer even her obsession with becoming a god.
In this instant, her whole world seemed to shrink.
It shrank until only the man in front of her remained.
The air seemed to freeze.
All that was left was the sound of their slightly quickened breathing.
Aiden looked at the girl before him.
She had taken off all her defenses and was showing him her true heart without hiding anything.
The softest part of his heart seemed to be gently touched by something.
"Silly girl."
Aiden gave a low laugh.
His voice was deep and warm.
He slowly raised his hand and gently touched Rainn’s slightly warm cheek.
His thumb softly brushed over her smooth skin.
Rainn trembled a little, but she did not move away.
Instead, like a gentle cat, she leaned into Aiden’s palm and rubbed against it softly.
The moonlight was like water, wrapping around them with quiet warmth.
Aiden lowered his head slightly.
Rainn also closed her eyes obediently.
Her long lashes, like tiny feather fans, trembled softly under the moonlight.
The distance between them grew smaller and smaller.
At last, with the whole garden of Blue Light flowers as their witness, their lips gently touched.
In that instant, it felt as if an electric current spread between their lips, striking deep into her soul.
Aiden’s kiss slowly changed from gentle to burning hot. It was possessive, yet still tender, as he took in her sweetness.
Rainn let out a soft sound. Her fair arms naturally wrapped around Aiden’s neck, and she answered his kiss with a shy but passionate response.
Their two souls seemed to fully blend together in that moment, no longer separate.
The wind stopped.
But the scent of the flowers grew even stronger.
After a long time, their lips finally parted.
Rainn’s beautiful face was already covered with a charming blush. Her whole body felt weak as she leaned into Aiden’s arms, breathing heavily.
She held Aiden’s waist tightly, as if she wanted to melt herself into his body.
The moonlight stretched the shadow of their close embrace.
Rainn buried her face against Aiden’s chest, listening to his strong heartbeat.
Her voice trembled slightly, and in the quiet night, she whispered,
"Tonight... don’t leave."
...
The night grew deeper.
Aiden looked at the shy yet very determined girl in his arms.
He did not say another word.
He gave her the best answer through his actions.
Aiden bent down and used a little strength in his arms, lifting Rainn’s soft, warm body into his embrace.
Rainn let out a small cry of surprise.
Instinctively, she wrapped her arms around Aiden’s neck and buried her blushing face deep against his shoulder.
In the deepest part of the temple, inside the bedroom, heavy curtains fell layer by layer.
That night, the cold wind of the Abyss was completely kept outside the temple.
Moonlight passed through the carved window frames and fell in broken patterns across the white jade bed, stretching the two entwined shadows long across the room.
The newly crowned queen of the Miko clan completely let go of all her defenses and pride in that moment, offering her purest self to the god she worshiped.
...
When the passion faded, only their soft, steady breathing remained in the bedroom.
Rainn rested her head on Aiden’s strong arm. Her smooth blue hair was spread across the warm jade pillow, making her skin look even fairer, almost like snow.
Her long, pale fingers gently drew circles on Aiden’s chest. Her eyes looked a little dazed as she gazed at the moonlight spilling in through the window.
"Aiden, do you know?"
Rainn spoke softly. Her voice was a little hoarse after everything, but more than that, it carried a kind of ease she had never felt before.
"Actually, I used to hate this place. I even hated being a Miko."
Aiden raised his other hand and gently stroked her soft, rounded shoulder.
"Because of the rules of Miko City?"
"Mm."
Rainn gave a self-mocking smile. Deep in her eyes, a heavy trace of exhaustion flashed.
"In the eyes of the world, I am the gifted Primordial Miko, the high and mighty ruler of the Miko clan."
"But before I met you, I was only a tool. A sacrifice that could be thrown away at any time."
Aiden did not interrupt her.
He only tightened his arm slightly, holding the warm, soft body in his arms a little closer.
"Ever since I can remember, my world was filled with nothing but boring training, cold scriptures, and the greedy, emotionless eyes of the elders."
"The way they looked at me was not like they were looking at a living person."
"It was like they were looking at a fine weapon."
"As long as my power grew fast enough, as long as I could bring benefits to the Miko clan, then everything I did was right."
"But if I slowed down even a little, or failed to meet their hopes, what waited for me was endless punishment and cold stares."
Rainn’s voice slowly began to tremble, and tears gathered in her eyes again.
"Those so-called fellow disciples, those so-called sisters... they feared my talent. Behind my back, they kept their distance from me, shut me out, and even wished I would one day die from losing control during training."
"No one cared if I was cold. No one cared if I was tired. And no one cared whether I even wanted this inheritance."
"Until... I met you."
Rainn raised her head. The moonlight happened to shine on a clear tear sliding from the corner of her eye.
"In the darkest corner of the Abyss, when I was at my most hopeless, you used flames that filled the sky to burn those Demons chasing me into ashes."
"You pulled me out of the mud, and you even handed me the supreme inheritance with your own hands."
"Only then did I understand what it felt like to be protected by someone."
"Only then did I realize that I was not alive just for that damn mission. I could also live for myself."
All the pain, loneliness, and fear that had been buried in her heart for more than ten years broke free in that moment like a flood.
Rainn could no longer hold it back. She buried her face in Aiden’s chest and began to cry.
Her sobs were soft, but they carried a heartbreaking release, as if she wanted to cry out all the darkness from the first half of her life.
These were not tears of sadness.
They were her final farewell to the cold, desperate person she used to be.
Aiden felt the warm tears soaking into his chest, and a strong wave of pity rose in his heart.
He did not say any unnecessary sweet words.
He only used his broad hand to gently stroke her smooth back again and again.
"Cry if you need to. You’ll feel better after letting it out."
Aiden’s voice was low and steady. In the quiet night, it sounded especially comforting.
"From now on, I’m here."
"As long as I’m still standing, no one in all the worlds will ever treat you like a tool again."
That promise carried the weight of a mountain.
Rainn’s sobs slowly faded.
In their place, she leaned into him even more, full of trust and need, while a deeply happy smile appeared at the corner of her lips.
...
At the same time,
outside the bedroom, in the long hallway,
a small figure was walking quietly while holding a bowl of medicinal soup that gave off a faint, pleasant scent.
It was Cheryl.
Her sister had just taken the imperial throne, and over the past few days, she had used up a great amount of Inner Spirit. So Cheryl had specially made a calming soup unique to the Miko clan.
"Sister, I brought you some calming soup..."
Cheryl reached the bedroom door and was just about to speak, but her voice suddenly stopped.
The bedroom door was not fully closed. A very thin gap had been left open.
Through that gap, soft moonlight spilled out from inside the room.
At the same time, she heard Rainn’s restrained, emotional crying, along with Aiden’s gentle whispers.
Cheryl froze in place.
She quietly looked through the gap in the door.
On the large bed, she saw her older sister, who was usually so dignified, cold, and out of reach. But now, Rainn was leaning tightly in Aiden’s arms like a helpless child.
And that legendary young man from the Great Shaw Empire was holding her with a gentle expression, softly comforting her.
With a loud buzz in her mind, Cheryl’s thoughts went completely blank.
Even though she was innocent, she still understood what had just happened inside.
In an instant, a tempting blush spread from her neck all the way to the tips of her ears.
Her delicate little face became so hot that it almost seemed like steam would rise from it.
"Ah..."
Cheryl bit her soft pink lip in panic, afraid that even the smallest sound might disturb the tender moment inside.
She took a deep breath and tried hard to calm her racing heart.
Seeing her sister leaning in Aiden’s arms, looking so happy and relaxed, Cheryl felt her own eyes grow a little wet.
Ever since their parents had passed away, she had never seen her sister cry so freely, or smile with such peace.
"As long as Sister is happy..."
Cheryl whispered silently in her heart.
Very carefully, she placed the jade bowl of calming soup on the stone table beside the door. Then she quietly stepped back.
But the moment she turned around, Cheryl slowly lowered her head.
The moonlight stretched her shadow across the floor, making it look a little lonely.
She looked down at her fair hands. Her fingers tightened around the edge of her dress, and her fingertips turned slightly pale from the pressure.
For some reason, a strange, sour ache rose in her chest.
"Aiden..."
Cheryl silently repeated his name in her heart.
In her mind, she could not help but picture Aiden on the battlefield, dressed in white like fresh snow, destroying countless enemies with a single strike.
She also remembered the broad, reassuring back he showed her when he stood in front of her to protect her.
In truth, her feelings for Aiden were no weaker than her sister’s.
But he was her sister’s man.
And she did not know how to express these heavy feelings that had quietly begun to grow in her heart.
Cheryl let out a soft sigh. She took one last look at the narrow gap in the closed door, then turned around and disappeared into the night as if she were running away.
