Chapter 294: The Statue, Return to Earth

Chapter 294: Chapter 294: The Statue, Return to Earth

The Abyss, The Black City.

Inside a spooky yet eerily quiet mansion, Wraith Jack lay on the sofa, reading a human book. He frowned slightly.

He slowly got up, carefully closed the book, and tossed it aside.

The book floated gently over to the bookshelves nearby.

Then, Wraith Jack stood up, turned his head slightly, and stared at the living room wall.

Outside The Black City, Theodore was just about to unleash his attack. Suddenly, he felt a strange gaze fixed on him.

It was strange because, although Theodore could sense the gaze, he couldn’t tell where it was coming from!

“What is this? I am a Mid-Tier Demon God!”

“This is no illusion!” Theodore stopped his attack, narrowed his eyes, and instinctively glanced toward The Black City.

He had just about to strike when that strange gaze appeared.

Unsurprisingly, it must have come from inside The Black City.

Yet, no matter how hard he looked, all he could see were the city’s towering walls.

Suddenly, a strange voice echoed right beside Theodore’s ear.

“You bothersome ones… one leaves, another arrives.”

“This is not a place for you. Leave now.”

Without hesitation, Theodore vanished from his spot. In an instant, he reappeared dozens of kilometers away.

Sweat trickled down his forehead. His eyes widened in shock as he frantically scanned his surroundings.

But no matter how hard he looked, he found nothing unusual.

“How is this possible? I’m a Mid-Tier Demon God, yet I can’t even sense this enemy?” Theodore’s mind reeled with shock.

He even suspected the gaze had been a trap, deliberately revealed just for him to notice.

“Who are you? Who exactly are you?” Theodore took a deep breath and demanded.

“Who I am doesn’t matter. I don’t want to interfere, but only if you don’t disturb me,” the voice replied coolly.

“Leave this place. This is your warning.”

Theodore hesitated. The Second Heart was far too important to him.

If the Second Heart fell into the hands of some other Demon God or a human powerhouse, he would be in serious trouble!

Of course, even if the danger was real, it wouldn’t mean his death.

Except for himself, no other being knew that the Second Heart could actually kill him if certain conditions were met.

Still, Theodore had no intention of leaving yet. As long as he didn’t retrieve the Second Heart, the risk would always remain.

His hesitation vanished. Gritting his teeth, he said, “I don’t mean to bother you. I just want what’s mine!”

“Stop hiding if you can! Come out and face me…”

Before Theodore could finish, that strange voice rang out again.

“Hide? I’ve been right in front of you this whole time.”

The scene around him twisted and changed in an instant. Suddenly, Theodore realized he was standing in the hallway of a mansion.

Opposite him stood a human Wraith wearing glasses.

Theodore shut his eyes tight, thinking to himself: Illusion. It has to be an illusion. I must be dealing with a Demon God who masters an illusionary Force of Laws.

“Calm down. If I just activate my Divine Domain, I should be able to break free.”

But then, the Wraith across from him glanced at him with a casual look.

In that split second, a wave of danger rising from Theodore’s very core made his body turn ice cold.

He felt that if he dared to make a move right now, the Wraith would strike, and kill him instantly!

“How is this possible? I am a Mid-Tier Demon God! Even an Upper-Tier Demon God wouldn’t give me this kind of feeling!” Theodore panicked internally.

What terrified him even more was that he couldn’t cast his Divine Domain!

“Stop trying. You can do nothing here.”

“I told you not to disturb me, yet you wouldn’t listen,” Wraith Jack sighed.

He really hated being bothered by other creatures from The Abyss.

Of course, mostly it was because of some restriction that prevented him from interfering too much; otherwise, it would cause major trouble.

“Who are you?” Theodore’s eyes widened as he asked again.

Wraith Jack slowly moved closer to Theodore and gently extended a finger.

In a flash, the books on the nearby bookshelves flipped open on their own, as if pushed by an invisible wind.

Golden characters flew out of the books, weaving together into a mysterious golden chain.

“Books? Golden text? I see… you must be the embodiment of Knowledge…”

Before Theodore could finish his sentence, the golden chain pierced straight into his body.

Immediately, his body began to disintegrate and reassemble. Within seconds, he was transformed into a black stone puppet.

“Sigh,” Wraith Jack muttered. “Now, how do I edit memories? This is such a hassle. Editing a Demon God’s memory is so troublesome!”

Waving a single finger casually toward a broom in the corner of the villa, he said with indifference:

“Before I erase your memories and send you away, you’ll have to clean up this place.”

“And go tell the human outside that I don’t want to see anyone right now.”

With that, Wraith Jack’s figure vanished. The books closed on their own, returning to their normal state.

The stone statue that used to be Theodore stood there, his stone eyes wide open.

He was a Mid-Tier Demon God! A Mid-Tier Demon God was now forced to sweep the floor?

This was a joke!

However, the very next moment, Theodore felt his body move on its own. He was marching toward the broom.

“Damn it! Damn it! Bastard!” Theodore tried to curse out loud.

But suddenly, his mouth snapped shut and stayed locked. He couldn’t make a sound.

Soon, the Theodore holding the broom appeared outside the villa.

Aiden stood there, staring at the black stone statue in confusion.

“Strange,” Aiden said. “I didn’t see this statue when I arrived earlier. It’s holding a broom, so it must be for cleaning up garbage.”

Inside the statue, Theodore’s eyes were wide with horror. He could clearly sense that his Second Heart was on this human’s body!

Yet, no matter how hard Theodore struggled, his mouth opened on its own, and his body bent down as if obeying orders. He spoke, though the words felt foreign to his own will:

“Hello. Lord Jack asked me to tell you that he doesn’t want to see anyone, not even any creatures from The Abyss, right now.”

“I’m really sorry.”

Theodore was suffering immensely. This was definitely not what he wanted to say. His true thought was screaming for that human to hand over the Second Heart!

“Sigh, I knew it,” Aiden sighed, looking up at the sky above The Black City.

The Mid-Tier Demon God Theodore hadn’t shown up, which meant Aiden had probably overreacted.

The real situation was that the Abyss Heartspire was simply too far from Theodore’s location—beyond the range where Theodore could sense the Second Heart. Otherwise, Theodore would have already appeared.

Aiden had originally planned to search for the last fragment of the mysterious treasure map before leaving Heartspire. Now, this incident had thrown his plan off course.

“Alright, please tell him I’ll come back soon with even more books to visit,” Aiden said quickly.

Theodore’s face twisted into an unnatural, forced smile as he nodded and replied:

“No problem.”

Then, his body moved on its own, starting to sweep the villa’s courtyard with the broom.

Aiden paused for a moment, then walked toward Brock’s shop.

He had already obtained the Second Class Scroll. It was time to update Brock and Fiona before the next trip to The Abyss, which would take them to the territory of the Red Dwarves.

He had so many Mythic Rank items. They couldn’t just stay stuck in his storage space forever.

Once he became a Forgemaster, all those materials in his storage could be forged into equipment. This would not only boost his own power but also lay the foundation for building his own faction in the future.

Soon, Aiden returned to Brock’s shop, though Fiona was still nowhere to be seen.

“No problem. Fiona and I were just about to return to our tribe. We can take you with us!” Brock patted his chest confidently.

Aiden nodded. This time in The Abyss had been a huge success, even if he hadn’t found the last fragment of the treasure map. His loot far exceeded his expectations.

Just four more genius from The Abyss races needed to complete the “Bane of All Races 2: Genius Nightmare” quest.

Plus, he had gathered tons of materials, several pieces of equipment, Skill Books, and even a Mythic Rank skill enhancement stone.

Of course, there was also the root of the Skeleton Tree, which had a very special purpose.

Thinking about this, Aiden asked Brock if he knew anything about the Skeleton Tree root.

He wanted to know if it could only be used in The Abyss, or if it worked even after returning to Earth.

To his surprise, Brock confirmed that the Skeleton Tree root could indeed be used on Earth.

“The Skeleton Tree is a special tree that grows in the space between the Spirit World and the real world,” Brock explained. “Its origin is extremely mysterious. No one knows how big it is or where its roots spread to.”

Aiden was amazed. There really were so many magical things in this world.

After thinking it over, he decided to wait until he returned to Earth to use the Skeleton Tree root. That was also when he would search for the final fragment of the mysterious treasure map.

Due to the situation with Theodore’s Second Heart, this was the only option he had right now.

Just as Aiden was about to head back to Earth, he suddenly remembered something important.

“Almost forgot! Bella is still at the Pink Desire shop!” Aiden slapped his forehead.

He took a little extra time and finally found Bella, who looked completely drained and listless. She was bent over, barely able to stand.

Earth, Elephant Empire Hotel.

True to his usual habit, Aiden immediately checked his surroundings upon arrival.

Suddenly, footsteps echoed from the hallway outside.

“Nellie’s voice called out, “Aiden, are you in there? Something has happened with The Wycliffe Family. I think it’s very important to you.”
