Chapter 274: The Second Deal, Catherine and Brock’s Shock
Chapter 274: Chapter 274: The Second Deal, Catherine and Brock’s Shock
A figure in black armor slowly descended from the sky.
The Black City’s ruler, Catherine, was concealed beneath a cold, black visor. All that was visible were her emerald-green eyes, fixed intently on Irene.
“You are the princess of the Crimson Mosquito Clan, right?” Catherine asked, her voice calm. “What exactly happened to your clan?”
Irene’s expression shifted instantly. A flash of sorrow crossed her face as she lowered her gaze to the ground.
“I’m not anymore,” she replied softly.
“That despicable Belith, allied with other Swarm Demon Gods and the Skeleton race, launched a sneak attack on my father.”
“I was out on a mission and barely escaped with my life. My father is still missing, and a huge number of our people were slaughtered.”
Catherine nodded slowly. She then shifted her gaze to the shop, focusing on Aiden and Brock.
When her eyes landed on Aiden, she didn’t pause.
“Brock,” she said, turning to him. “Have you seen Jack? He hasn’t shown up in a long time.”
Brock immediately shook his head. “He doesn’t want to see anyone. As long as he refuses to, no one can enter that villa.”
“But luckily, I met a new friend who might have a way to resolve this crisis.” Brock turned toward Aiden.
Catherine’s eyes darted over to Aiden. She glanced at him briefly, showing no real interest.
However, Brock’s next words made her stop and examine Aiden much more closely.
“Last time, my friend Aiden actually met Jack,” Brock said. “They talked for a long time.”
Catherine instinctively stepped toward Aiden, looking down at him with new attention.
Her black mask automatically slid down, revealing a face that was stunningly beautiful yet carried a distinct air of steely determination.
Seeing that face, Aiden paused for a moment.
It wasn’t because of anything complex; he just felt a strange sense of familiarity.
After a closer look, Aiden realized that Catherine’s appearance reminded him a lot of Alice, the main character from the zombie movies he’d watched in his past life.
The only differences were Catherine’s emerald-green eyes, her higher, sharper nose, and her height—she was probably close to six feet tall.
“Have we met before?” Catherine frowned, asking sharply.
Aiden shook his head. “This is our first meeting. I’ve just seen humans who look very much like you before.”
Catherine didn’t really care about that. Right now, she was far more curious about what Aiden, a Level 50 Human Reclasser, could possibly do to solve the crisis threatening the Black City.
Aiden showed no sign of panic. He calmly repeated what he had just told Irene.
“An item of Mythic Rank that allows for long-distance, random teleportation?” Catherine’s emerald eyes lit up instantly. “Would you mind showing it to me?”
Aiden was about to agree, but he quickly remembered that the Supreme Miko’s blessing should stay hidden.
He still remembered what happened in the Miko Shrine. The Supreme Miko’s Wraithshard had mentioned sensing the presence of someone familiar on his body.
Who that person was, Aiden still hadn’t figured out.
But after all this time, he had some theories. It was very likely connected to the Ring of Bane of All Races.
Of course, he couldn’t be sure yet.
If he showed the Supreme Miko’s blessing now, it might cause unnecessary trouble.
As for activating the long-distance teleportation, there was no need to reveal the blessing. It was already bound to him, so he could activate it whenever he wanted.
“Sorry, that’s not really possible,” Aiden said, shaking his head seriously.
Catherine’s emerald eyes lingered on Aiden’s face for a moment before she finally nodded.
“Alright. Trust is a gamble, but I’ll take a chance on you. If you say you can solve this, then I believe you,” she said.
“If you manage to resolve this crisis, I’ll owe you a favor. And I mean that as a personal favor, not as the ruler of the Black City.”
“Plus, if you want to stay in the Black City for a while, I can provide you with an independent villa in the prime district as a reward.”
Catherine brought up these terms before Aiden even mentioned payment.
Aiden thought about it for a second and simply agreed.
Regardless of whether Irene or Catherine could actually pay him, he needed to use the Supreme Miko’s blessing to leave the Black City and head to the Abyss Hearts Pire for the auction anyway.
In a way, his gain right now cost him absolutely nothing.
Also, the humans from the Elephant Empire he had saved were still staying in the house Brock provided. It wasn’t a long-term solution.
So, having a private villa available from Catherine’s offer was a perfect way to solve that problem.
“Deal. But before we get started, there’s something else I need to do,” Aiden said casually.
Catherine and Irene both furrowed their brows. Brock spoke up immediately. “What is it?”
“I need to visit Jack again. Last time, I promised to bring him some human books,” Aiden replied.
Catherine immediately shook her head. Wraith Jack was acting strange again lately and simply hadn’t shown up.
Since neither she nor Brock could see him, Aiden’s trip would be a waste of time.
“Yeah, that guy Wraith Jack is stubborn. If he doesn’t want to appear, no one can see him,” Brock agreed firmly.
“I’ll just go check,” Aiden said directly. “It won’t take much time.”
With that, he turned and walked toward the exit.
Outside Brock’s shop, a group of Abyss creatures had gathered, ready to force their way in.
But just then, they saw a werewolf step out of the shop.
Instantly, the Abyss creatures started shouting loudly:
“Who are you? Where is Brock?”
“Yeah, tell Brock to come out and make that Irene leave the Black City!”
“The Black City has always been peaceful, a very special place in the Abyss. Now it’s in big trouble all because of Irene!”
“Werewolf, do you want to watch the Black City get destroyed? Those giant Skeletons are not to be messed with!”
Aiden turned back and looked at Catherine. “Do you want to handle this?”
Catherine took a deep breath and quickly walked to the entrance.
The moment she appeared, the loud Abyss creatures instantly shut their mouths and stared at her in shock.
“Everyone, calm down,” Catherine said. “There is a solution to the Black City’s crisis. You can all leave now.”
The creatures around her looked at each other. One Demon couldn’t hold back and asked, “Lord Catherine, can the Black City really survive this crisis?”
“I’ve lived here for over ten years. I don’t want to be forced to leave.”
Catherine slowly turned her head to look at Aiden. “If this… werewolf isn’t lying, then I’m sure the Black City will be saved.”
As soon as she spoke, all the Abyss creatures turned to Aiden and started whispering among themselves:
“Him? Is that true?”
“I think I’ve seen this werewolf before. He bought a lot of humans recently.”
“What did he buy the humans for? To eat them? Or as slaves?”
“I don’t know, but those humans didn’t die. They actually seem more energetic than before.”
“That’s strange!”
“But if he’s lying, doesn’t that mean the Black City is still doomed?”
“If he dares to lie to the Lord, then all those humans should be killed!”
“Yeah!”
Aiden listened to the whispers around him, his face expressionless, as he calmly said, “Please move aside. Wasting my time only makes the Black City more dangerous.”
At his words, all the Abyss creatures instinctively took a few steps back, clearing the path.
Under their watchful eyes, Aiden walked toward the villa where Wraith Jack was, with Brock and Catherine following right behind him.
“I told you,” Brock muttered as they walked. “That Jack guy doesn’t see anyone right now because something is weird with him. You’re just wasting your time going there.”
Soon, they arrived in front of the villa.
Just then, Bella’s voice suddenly echoed in Aiden’s mind from where she was hiding in his hair.
“Kid, do you actually have such a Mythic Rank item? Catherine chose to trust you, but if she finds out you’re lying, you’re dead.”
Aiden sighed inwardly. He did have it; he just didn’t want to show them.
Besides the Supreme Miko’s blessing, he also had the Ring of Bane of All Races.
Plus, once he completed the Bane of All Races 2nd Generation: Nightmare, he would get a Mythic Rank staff and a resurrection item!
Suddenly, Aiden felt a gaze coming from the creepy villa.
He looked up and was shocked to see Wraith Jack standing right by the window, staring directly at him.
“See? I told you Jack won’t see you. There’s no one inside that villa,” Brock complained again.
Catherine let out a sigh. “I don’t know what’s wrong with him. If he were willing to help us, the Black City’s crisis would already be over.”
Hearing this, Aiden instinctively turned back to look at Brock and Catherine. He asked in surprise, “You can’t see him?”
Brock and Catherine stopped, looking confused. “See what?”
They quickly realized the answer, their eyes widening in shock.
“You can see Jack?” they shouted quickly.
Aiden nodded. He pulled out the human books he had prepared from his storage space and walked straight into the villa.
Brock and Catherine stood frozen in place, staring at each other with wide eyes, their mouths slightly open, ready to speak.
