Chapter 240: Saving the Children – Rowan’s Ordeal
Chapter 240: Chapter 240: Saving the Children – Rowan’s Ordeal
“With the captain around, we should be fine,” Victor said.
Jade and the others nodded silently. They still trusted Aiden’s strength.
At that moment, Jenna glanced at Aiden, then pulled out her Teleportation Scroll. “I’ve got other protective items on me, so I won’t need this one.”
Even so, there still weren’t enough Teleportation Scrolls to go around.
Aiden didn’t say a word. He didn’t even look at the other members of The Amaranth Country team.
He made his own choice and didn’t try to push anyone else into doing anything.
Victor and the others had pulled out their Teleportation Scrolls out of trust in him.
But The Amaranth Country’s members had little connection to Aiden. For them, not trusting him and wanting to keep a life-saving item was perfectly understandable.
Just then, hesitation flickered in Elias’s eyes.
He remembered the bodies he’d seen earlier and could almost feel how the Demon had tortured the common people of the Elephant Empire.
After a brief pause, Elias slowly, with trembling hands, took out his Teleportation Scroll. “Forget it. Against a Mythic Rank Demon genius, even this might not help. Besides, with so many of us together, maybe it’ll be the Demon who tries to run away first. We might not even need to use it.”
Elias took a deep breath and slowly let go of the Teleportation Scroll in his hand.
Then, forcing himself to look away from the scroll, he turned to see the frozen, stunned children behind him.
He was afraid he’d regret it.
Seeing this, the other members of The Amaranth Country, though still hesitant, followed Elias’s example and pulled out their own Teleportation Scrolls.
Only one team member kept his head down the whole time, pretending he’d seen nothing.
The leader of The Amaranth Country team watched him with a look of disappointment but said nothing.
Instead, Elias walked slowly up to the teammate, just about to speak, when he saw Aiden shake his head at him.
“The number of Teleportation Scrolls is already enough.”
Hearing this, the teammate suddenly lifted his head.
His expression instantly relaxed, but then an unmistakable shame washed over his face.
He quickly said, “Is it already enough? I was just about to take out my own Teleportation Scroll.”
No one answered. The air instantly turned stiff.
“Lance captain, you really have to trust me. I’m not scared, I just took a moment. Now there are enough Teleportation Scrolls, right?”
Lance, the captain of The Amaranth Country team, nodded silently.
He couldn’t make decisions for others, and he accepted that people might choose differently than he did, but it still left a bad taste in his heart.
“Alright, let’s move out,” Aiden broke the silence.
He picked up a Teleportation Scroll from the ground, walked over to the children, and pressed one into each of their hands.
The others quickly followed suit.
Once everything was ready, Aiden was about to use his magic to activate the Teleportation Scrolls in the children’s hands when a voice stopped him.
The little girl who had lost all four limbs let go of the Teleportation Scroll she had been holding in her mouth. Blinking her large eyes, she asked, “Sir, can I not go?”
Aiden tried to make his voice gentle as he asked, “Why?”
“This place is too dangerous, and I have no dad, no mom, and no big brother. I’m scared.”
Aiden’s expression faltered for a moment.
He walked over to the little girl, gently reached out to stroke her hair, and said, “It’s okay, don’t be scared. After Aiden drives the evil Arcanum City away, we’ll meet again.”
“Really?” The girl’s eyes filled with hope.
Aiden nodded and gently placed the Teleportation Scroll back by her mouth.
The girl didn’t hesitate. She opened her mouth and bit down on the Teleportation Scroll.
Then, Aiden began channeling his internal magic to activate the Teleportation Scrolls on the children.
One by one, spatial teleportation circles formed rapidly.
As the children’s figures faded away, Aiden’s expression grew colder, and the killing intent in his eyes intensified.
Once the underground space held only him, Victor, and the others from The Amaranth Country, Aiden took a deep breath and spoke in a chilling voice: “The real hunt is about to begin.”
…
At the same time, inside the most-watched live stream of the Global Reclasser Exchange Tournament.
“It’s been a long time. Why haven’t Aiden and his team appeared yet? Did they run into powerful enemies in the sewers?”
“Forget it, why not let flying pets carry the streaming gear down there?”
“It’s too dangerous. The sewer space is too tight; flying pets couldn’t dodge enemy attacks anyway.”
“True, but right now we have no idea what Aiden and his team are doing.”
“Sigh, I just checked other streams. Out of over 100 contestants, fewer than 50 are left on the field.”
“Huh? That’s so fast! I’m getting really worried Aiden might be in danger. I just hope he shows up on screen soon.”
“Big trouble! Just now, a group of children appeared at the Teleportation Scroll destination. What happened? Aren’t Teleportation Scrolls only meant to be used in life-or-death situations?”
“What’s going on? What’s happening?”
Suddenly, a huge wave of viewers left this stream and rushed into other channels.
They saw a group of stunned, doll-like children being led away from the teleportation circles by staff. One of them was missing all four limbs.
A staff member looked worried and asked the children, “What’s wrong? What happened?”
The other children didn’t react at all. Only the little girl with no limbs quickly answered, “Aiden and the others saved us.”
Instantly, the viewers watching the stream widened their eyes, filled with worry.
These kids had been saved by Aiden and his team?
“Wait a minute. Every contestant only gets one Teleportation Scroll. There are so many children here—surely Aiden’s team doesn’t have enough Teleportation Scrolls?”
“Great, now what if there’s danger and no Teleportation Scrolls to use?”
“What do you mean? We have to trust Aiden’s choices. Regardless of anything else, these kids are saved, right?”
“But is it worth it if saving them puts Aiden’s team in danger?”
Many viewers stared at the comments on their phones and fell silent.
They didn’t know how to answer or what to think.
If you were to be cruel, as geniuses and talented Reclassers, these contestants were clearly more valuable than these children.
But seeing the children’s looks, their expressions, and especially the girl with no limbs, their hearts were instantly filled with pity and sympathy.
It wasn’t until one comment appeared that they felt a little better.
“We have to respect these children, and we must also respect the choices of the contestants. Since they made this decision, they must have their reasons. All we can do now is support them, believe in them, and wait for them to return victorious.”
Just then, a flood of comments popped up, saying that Aiden and his group had appeared in another stream.
In an instant, tens of millions—even hundreds of millions—of viewers rushed into that channel.
In the stream, Aiden and his team were seen just climbing out of the sewer, carefully scanning their surroundings.
Viewers in the stream saw Aiden whisper something to Victor, Jade, and the members of The Amaranth Country team.
Then, those people quickly scattered, hiding in various hidden corners around them.
The only direction left clear was straight ahead, with no talented contestants hiding there.
In that moment, their positions formed a giant pocket.
“Wait, what is Aiden doing? This seems strange,” one viewer couldn’t help but ask.
Soon, an audience member who knows tactics replied, “It’s an ambush. Aiden’s team is preparing to ambush a Demon. But how did they know a Demon would be here? Usually, you only set up a trap like this if you have prior intel that an enemy is coming, or if you have a way to lure them out.”
Before the viewers could figure out why Aiden made such a plan, the number of people watching this stream suddenly dropped by half.
Most of them switched to the channel showing Rowan’s team.
It turns out Rowan and his squad had run into a Scorpion-Tailed Demon and Gaunt Demon Azdrael.
Although Rowan’s team isn’t as strong as Aiden’s, they are still top-tier among all the Global Reclasser Exchange Tournament contestants.
Compared to Aiden, whose actions are unknown, Rowan’s fight was obviously much more exciting for the audience.
In the stream, Rowan from Insect Valley stared seriously at the enemy ahead.
“Hmph, I never thought I’d find you before I even went looking for you,” Rowan said slowly, squinting his eyes.
A faint, mocking smile curled the corner of Gaunt Demon Azdrael’s mouth. He tilted his neck slightly and replied, “Oh? Looking for us? Looking for us to die?”
The Scorpion-Tailed Demon just watched Rowan with interest and said calmly, “Interesting. I’m starting to feel a bit excited.”
In the next second, his huge scorpion tail on his back struck the air in front of him fiercely. A black rift in space appeared, and the Scorpion-Tailed Demon vanished from his spot.
At the same time, Gaunt Demon leaned his body forward slightly, pushed hard against the ground with his feet, and the earth cracked as if struck by a meteor.
His body moved like a bolt of black lightning, rushing straight toward Rowan and the others.
