Chapter 239: The Underground, Aiden’s Actions

Chapter 239: Chapter 239: The Underground, Aiden’s Actions

Silence. Dead quiet.

The vast underground space was thick with the stench of rotting bodies.

Compared to the smell down in the sewers, that one didn’t seem so unbearable anymore.

Everyone had entered this underground area except Jordan, Cici, and the little girl.

The moment someone pulled out a light source, everyone’s eyes went wide. They froze in place, stunned.

Before them stood hundreds, maybe thousands, of identical corpses. Alongside them were all kinds of tools of torture—each one so horrifying that just glancing at it made your body shake with fear and anger.

In the center of the underground space, there was a carpet made of human skin.

On it sat several tables covered in rotting flesh and blood, along with wineglasses already dried out and crusted with blood.

Near the skin carpet lay piles of pale bones. Look closely, and you’d see most of them belonged to children—bones that hadn’t fully grown yet.

But that wasn’t all. Aiden and the others even spotted a huge grinding stone, sitting quietly in the middle of the underground room.

When they moved closer and saw the blood and bone dust on the stone, plus the large bowls scattered nearby, they finally realized what it was for: this massive grinder was used to crush living humans into meat for Demon to eat.

“Ugh!” One of the contestants couldn’t hold it back and ran over to vomit.

Just ahead of him was a deep pit, radiating a cold chill from within.

He glanced at it nervously and suddenly saw figures in the pit, each one taller than a person.

At first, he thought they were Demon or some other creature, so he called out to Aiden and the others.

But when the light from the flashlights cut into the pit, the whole group fell silent.

Those weren’t Demon—they were humans, chopped up and stored like meat.

Stripped naked and arranged neatly, their bodies were covered in frost, but their faces showed clear expressions.

Pain, despair, terror, anger—all these heavy emotions hit everyone present like a wave.

Aiden and the others took a moment longer to carefully inspect the underground space.

Aside from what they’d already seen, they also found a resting spot used by Demon.

It was just as unbearable.

Human corpses were treated as materials, hung on the walls as decorations and piled up to make beds and sofas.

They also saw many human women who had been tortured to death.

There were too many ways to die, far beyond what anyone could imagine. Just one glance would stay with them for the rest of their lives.

Aiden took a deep breath, steadying his mind. He was the first to regain control and ordered everyone to gather the corpses together.

Then, he unleashed Blazing Tornado.

Raging flames roared to life, reflecting in everyone’s eyes.

From The Amaranth Country’s team, Elias suddenly spoke up: “Aiden, were you really chasing two Mythic Rank Demon geniuses earlier?”

Aiden turned to look at him.

Elias took a deep breath and continued, “I know you hate me. Back then, I proposed disqualifying you even though you did nothing wrong. I’m not a good person, and I don’t care about others’ opinions. At the time, I just wanted you out of the race so I’d face fewer strong rivals. But things are different now. I’m sorry for what I did before. I apologize!”

Elias bowed deeply toward Aiden.

Seeing firsthand the cruel acts Demon committed against humans, Elias couldn’t stand it anymore.

All he could think about now was revenge—for his fallen comrades.

It wasn’t just the people from Elephant Empire suffering unimaginable pain. If Demon wasn’t stopped, people from The Amaranth Country would suffer the same fate too.

His family, his friends, anyone tied to him… one day, they could all become just another corpse here. Tortured to death by Demon before finally breathing their last.

“Aiden,” Elias asked, still bent over, “what should we do?”

But just then, Aiden suddenly turned and stared at a wall to his right.

There was a crack there, maybe twenty or thirty centimeters wide.

He had just heard a noise coming from inside it.

Everyone quickly followed his gaze and got ready to fight.

The crack was too small for most Demon to squeeze through, but you never knew if there was a small one inside, or one that could change its size.

Aiden glanced at Faye and whispered, “Go take a look. Be careful.”

Faye nodded, flapped her wings gently, and floated silently into the crack.

Aiden and the others waited, but no fighting sounds came.

After about three minutes, Faye floated back out.

“What’s inside? Are there enemies?” Aiden asked directly.

Faye shook her head. “Master, there are no Demon inside. But there are a few children.”

“Are they alive or dead?” Victor suddenly asked.

Seeing so many human corpses, he immediately assumed there were more dead children inside, which is why he asked.

Faye replied, “They’re still alive, but…”

“But what?” Aiden pressed.

Faye sighed, her big golden eyes filled with sadness. “But right now, they’re no different from the dead.”

Everyone’s hearts sank. No one asked more questions. They quickly walked toward the crack.

Then, under Aiden’s orders, Faye went back into the crack again—this time carrying Nellie’s Radiant Thorns whip.

Soon, one by one, children around four or five years old were pulled through the crack by Nellie’s Radiant Thorns whip.

Only then did everyone finally understand what Faye meant when she said these kids were no different from the dead.

They were still breathing and had hearts beating, but their eyes were empty and their faces blank. They showed no reaction to anything around them at all.

“How did they end up like this?” one contestant couldn’t help asking.

Everyone guessed it was because these kids had seen too much trauma, combined with a lack of food and no sense of safety.

The group fell into a silence, unsure of what to do.

They had come to the front line to hunt Demon. Now, with so many children, they couldn’t take them into battle, but they couldn’t just leave them behind either.

If danger struck, the contestants could simply use their Teleportation Scroll to escape. But what about the children?

Some suggested leaving the kids behind for now and taking them out once the fighting was over.

But others quickly argued, “What if we run into a tough Demon and are forced to use the Teleportation Scroll? These kids won’t survive if we leave them.”

Among all the children, the only one who seemed somewhat normal was the little girl in Cici’s arms. However, she had lost her limbs and needed constant care.

Just then, Cici took a deep breath and looked at her brother, Jordan.

Jordan seemed to understand her plan. After a brief hesitation, he nodded.

Cici then spoke up to the group, “Um, my brother and I can take these children away first.”

Victor immediately shook his head. “No. Just the two of you? If you meet a Demon on the way, it will be too dangerous.”

Demon could appear anywhere in the front line. If Jordan and Cici tried to leave on their own, they’d be in serious trouble. They were only Legendary Rank Reclassers.

At a loss for what to do, Cici and Jordan both instinctively turned to Aiden.

Seeing this, Victor, Jade, and Nellie also looked toward Aiden, waiting for his decision.

In the end, even the team from The Amaranth Country fixed their gaze on Aiden.

Unbothered by all the eyes on him, Aiden calmly pulled out his Teleportation Scroll and said simply, “I don’t need this one right now. I’ll use mine to teleport some of the children out first.”

“Besides,” he added, “someone must have already died out there. We can look for their bodies and see if we can find more Teleportation Scrolls.”

Victor’s eyes widened instantly.

The Teleportation Scroll was their only lifeline.

Without it, if a dangerous Demon appeared, they’d have no choice but to fight until they died.

“Then just use mine first,” Victor said after a moment, handing over his scroll. “We can give it back to me once we find others.”

Jade didn’t say a word. She just dropped her Teleportation Scroll on the ground.

Then came Nellie, Jordan, and Cici.

Every member of the Great Shaw Empire team pulled out their scrolls.

When the members of The Amaranth Country saw this, they hesitated. Some lowered their heads, trying to fade into the background.

They hadn’t considered using their scrolls to save the children; they just knew doing so would put them in extreme danger.

Elias couldn’t hold back his question. “Aren’t you afraid that if you run into a dangerous Demon, you won’t be able to escape?”

Hearing this, Victor, Jade, Jordan, Cici, and Nellie all instinctively turned to look at Aiden.
