Chapter 218: Chapter 185: New Romance

Huai Yu was on the verge of a breakdown. "Are you serious? Kuang Biao, you...!"

She had completely lost her composure!

Kuang Biao, however, argued righteously, "Can you blame me? I’m just a normal bamboo with emotional needs! Is there anything wrong with wanting to date?"

Huai Yu had a splitting headache. This bamboo pretending to be mature was already annoying enough when it chattered endlessly. If it became a hopeless romantic on top of that...

She asked nervously, "Who do you like?"

"Please don’t let it be me, please don’t let it be me, please don’t let it be me!" she prayed silently.

Kuang Biao became coy. "One day, you stood in front of me reading poetry. You were so emotional and passionate."

Huai Yu’s vision swam.

"You said the sun was like a feathered arrow, and you talked about a clear, gentle, and beautiful corolla..."

Dying a thousand deaths inside, Huai Yu fell into deep thought.

"You read with such feeling, and it grew so fast..."

Huai Yu was speechless. She first breathed a sigh of relief, then asked, "So the one you like is..."

"That’s right!" Kuang Biao’s emotions suddenly surged, as if confessing to the whole world. "It’s the sunflower you wrote poetry for!

"I heard it can grow to be just a little bit shorter than me.

"I heard it can produce hundreds of seeds at once.

"I also heard you say its flower can be as big as a washbasin! I specifically stretched a bamboo shoot under your house to look at the washbasin, and it really is huge!"

Kuang Biao’s entire bamboo grove was intoxicated by its own beautiful romance. It even began to comment on the matter in a surprisingly pragmatic manner:

"My flowers are small, and its flowers are big. We are a match made in heaven, born to complement each other.

"I spread through my roots, but it can give birth to hundreds of children at once. There’s absolutely no worry about carrying on the family line! You know, I’m a traditional bamboo. I was born either to expand my territory or put down roots and grow.

"It can bear children, and I’m very satisfied with that.

"Also—ahem, anyway, I’ll just tell you now since we’re practically family. It’s an annual plant, and as for me... well, I am a hollow bamboo, after all. I can’t quite guarantee I’ll be able to love just one plant forever.

"Being an annual is great! We can have a beautiful romance this year, and I’ll make it the happiest sunflower in the whole world!

"By next year, when my heart wanders, it will grow anew. It won’t be heartbroken, and I won’t feel guilty. This is true perfection."

Huai Yu stared deadpan. "You stretched a bamboo shoot into my house—you pierced right through the concrete floor!"

Kuang Biao fell silent.

The entire bamboo grove swayed subconsciously. Kuang Biao hurriedly explained, "Listen to me, I just went to look at the washbasin, I didn’t keep growing! If you’re not happy about it, just snap that shoot off!"

It was obviously feeling guilty and quickly changed the subject. "Hey, do you want to see my girlfriend again? You’ve been so busy lately, you haven’t been taking good care of it. While you’re at it, read it a couple more poems to cultivate its mind. I prefer a partner with a bit of literary flair."

A bamboo branch swayed and pointed diagonally ahead at a noticeably robust sunflower seedling. It was currently still gathering strength to grow taller, its thick, sturdy stem topped with fuzzy, prickly leaves.

Because she had only fed it a small amount of Superpower, it had just sprouted quickly and grown to this height. Essentially, it had not mutated. However, seeing Kuang Biao so convinced, and considering the sunflower’s innate Mutant Value was over twenty, it might just need a tiny catalyst for a sudden mutation.

Looking at this sunflower seedling, Huai Yu suddenly felt a wave of guilt, as if she were committing a sin.

Meanwhile, Kuang Biao was deep in love. "When it matures and grows up, you can give it a bit more Superpower so it can talk. Then we can chat every day, and I’ll never be lonely again."

"Yeah." Huai Yu remained expressionless. "I’m going to bring those chicks over right now. From today onwards, they are your responsibility.

"If they don’t eat well, lose weight, get sick, or are unhappy laying eggs... those are all your responsibility.

"Four chicks and two goslings. You shouldn’t be lonely anymore, right?"

She looked at the sunflower again and couldn’t help but ponder carefully.

Although she didn’t want to admit it, everything at home that mutated through her hands was somehow slightly related to her thoughts at the time. But because the sample size was too small, Huai Yu wasn’t sure if they were influenced by her, or if their inherent mutation paths were just similar.

But, if she remembered correctly, the reason she held that romance novel, *Towards the Sun*, while planting the sunflower was purely because it was too boring to just wait while channeling her Superpower. Hastening the growth of a large handful of sunflower seeds one by one, while carefully controlling the dosage for each—since the task was so effortless, she needed something to pass the time, right?

And the romance story in *Towards the Sun* was actually terribly written. Its only saving grace was the poem about sunflowers inside, which served as the spiritual pillar for the female lead’s self-reliance and rebellion.

So...

Didn’t that spiritual pillar sound a lot like a towering, indomitable sunflower once it grew up? Huai Yu suddenly began to look forward to Kuang Biao’s high-end "raising a bride" love story.

Then, she looked at the other sunflowers in the row, turned her head, and asked Kuang Biao, "Do you only like this one?"

Kuang Biao was taken aback. "Huh?"

But Huai Yu continued. "I have another poignant romance novel over there. It’s called *Unattainable Lover*. How about it? Doesn’t the name just reek of destiny? Doesn’t it sound like true love?

"If you don’t mind, I can read this book later while hastening the growth of another one for you."

Huai Yu spoke with utmost sincerity, "After all, you’re so incredible and own such a massive bamboo grove. It shouldn’t be a big problem to have a backup option when dating, right?"

This actually made Kuang Biao stutter a bit. "R-really?

"If I date two at the same time, you won’t look down on me?

"I know you humans prefer dating one at a time. If there are too many, your time management falls apart."

Kuang Biao’s bamboo leaves shook with a loud RUSTLE RUSTLE. Clearly, the entire bamboo was caught up in a daydream as it continued, "You’re right. *Towards the Sun* sounds so positive. Things like ’the sun’ and ’clear, gentle, and beautiful’ are very bright and radiant words.

"But I read a line of poetry in the past. It goes, ’Great art comes from suffering,’ meaning that a life too smooth and successful cannot produce good poetry.

"Say, what if my girlfriend has it too easy, lacks literary talent, and can’t write poetry...?

"Then having another poignant romance that can inspire poetry wouldn’t be a big deal, right?"

Huai Yu was speechless.

She was purely joking, but she never expected Kuang Biao would actually dare to entertain the thought!

In that instant, she felt dirty—if the sunflower she hastened actually ended up dating this thing, would she get brain damage from eating its sunflower seeds?!

No.

More accurately, would there even be any sunflower seeds left? After all, it was common knowledge that a hopeless romantic couldn’t grow anything good.

Huai Yu took a deep breath. Filled with worry, she completely forgot all about Zhou Qian in that moment.

By the way, maybe she should find some time to transplant the sunflower to a different spot?
