Chapter 143: Chapter 116: Imperial Capital Wu Yue

"If you want to take a shortcut to quickly win over the people around him, you have to be prepared to swallow some hardship.

"Besides, your endurance is truly lacking. Otherwise, faking a romance with him might have sped up your progress even more."

Her mother’s sarcastic tone successfully calmed Bai Yu down. "Mom, honestly! My Superpower isn’t weak. Why should I lower myself to date him? I’d rather go slaughter things in the Wilderness for ten days and ten nights straight."

"Bite your tongue!" Her mother could no longer maintain her calm facade. She walked over, grabbed a pillow, and smacked her on the head.

"You think staying out in the Wilderness for ten days and nights is a good thing?

"Look at the scar on your face! If it were any closer, your eyeball would’ve been gouged out!

"You’ve only been on a few missions, and you’re already acting this recklessly? Do you never think about me and your father?"

Touching the scar on her cheek, a lingering sense of fear flashed across Bai Yu’s face. But it was quickly replaced by a smug expression.

"Mom, you didn’t see the way I killed that Black Widow spider—it was so cool!

"Besides, my reckless gamble paid off. Look, I got promoted, and now I have people under me. That group of battle-hardened veterans around Wu Yue also got a first impression of me, and it should be a pretty good one.

"And the internal ranks of the Defense Army over in Flower City probably have a favorable opinion of me too..." She couldn’t help but chuckle, her mind wandering to grand fantasies. "Before I die, I’m going to become a general!"

Then, remembering another general, she frowned in disgust. "How can someone be so narcissistic!

"I told him clearly that I was there to learn skills. I even picked fights with him every day to improve myself as quickly as possible... But that son of a bitch wouldn’t even fight properly! He kept pulling punches like some ’gentleman protecting a delicate flower’!

"If I hadn’t pushed myself to train extra hard, I would’ve suffered a huge loss in the Wilderness this time!

"And the way he looks at me—ugh, he’s so gross and greasy! When I managed to injure him during our sparring, he even put on this pretentious act and said, ’The little girl is quite ruthless...’

"I told him time and time again that in the arena, there are only opponents! There are no men and women!"

"The little girl is quite ruthless..."

At this moment in Flower City Hospital, someone silently put down a mirror, uttering those exact words with a numb expression and blank eyes.

The hospital room was temporarily empty. After receiving blood transfusions and various medicinal adjustments, Zhou Qian had finally awoken from his weak, comatose state. The very first thing he did was ask the nurse for a mirror.

Good lord!

One look almost made his expression crumble. The only reason it didn’t was that the growing scars were pulled so tight that any movement tugged at them, making him feel both pained and incredibly bizarre.

The man in the mirror still had his usual slightly tanned skin, but a vicious scar now slashed across his left face from his temple to his cheekbone. On his right face, an equally hideous scar ran from his cheek down to his jawline.

The doctor had told him earlier that the cuts were too deep and the scarring would be heavy, but he hadn’t fully grasped it until now. Looking at the thick, dark, and long scars, he truly couldn’t hold back his dismay. No wonder the doctor had spent so much time doing psychological counseling for a rough-and-tumble guy like him after he woke up. The central theme had been learning to accept his appearance, or alternatively, saving up a massive amount of points to undergo three to five reconstructive surgeries in the Imperial Capital.

He pulled his collar down a bit further. The scars trailed from both sides of his neck down to his collarbones, then across his chest, upper arms, elbows, and even his palms. The long scar on the inside of his forearm was especially terrifying. If it had been just a little deeper and hadn’t stopped bleeding, it would have sent him straight to the afterlife!

He put the mirror down. For some reason, he recalled a foreign fairy tale his sister, Zhou Ning, had once recommended to him. It featured Mages who used some sort of Spell... Was it called Divine Shadowless or Four Splits and Five Breaks? Was this exactly what a person looked like after being hit by one of those?

He gritted his teeth inwardly. Thank goodness the Rose Corridor was there so he could keep the whole thing under wraps. Otherwise, how could anyone explain that a bit of random medicine—or whatever method she used—along with a few extra slashes, could completely eradicate such stubborn toxins? If word got out, Huai Yu would probably never have a single day of peace again!

At the thought of this, his head began to ache again. That foolish girl! She had a sweet mouth, but why didn’t she have a single ounce of caution? How many times had they even met? They hadn’t even spoken more than a handful of sentences in total. He had even brought people over and accidentally destroyed her house. How could she dare to sacrifice so much for him so directly!

Clutching the mirror tightly, Zhou Qian fell into a deep state of anxiety. He worriedly wondered if Huai Yu was actually planning to come visit him at the hospital too.
