Chapter 140: Chapter 115: So Embarrassing

"Wait!"

Huai Yu suddenly remembered something.

Didn’t she fish a giant snakehead out of the mountains the other day and keep it in a puddle? Why hadn’t she seen it for the past few days?

Could it have run away? But it was just a fish. It couldn’t dig holes or fly, so how could it escape? Could something else have snatched it and eaten it? But it was so huge! With the Rose Corridor around, not even wild rabbits dared to come near...

Huai Yu felt incredibly frustrated. The first fish she caught had been sold to that annoying middle-aged woman. For the second fish she caught, she had finally steeled herself to eat it herself, but one thing had led to another... Now, she hadn’t even tasted a single scale of it before it vanished without a trace.

Refusing to give up, she went to the puddle under the barnyard grass tree and looked left and right. The water in the puddle had become clear, indicating the fish had been missing for quite some time. Looking ahead past the puddle, the pond came into view.

Huai Yu drew in a sharp breath.

Snakeheads ate other fish! And she had just bought fish and shrimp fry! Thinking about it this way, it would have been better if some creature had dragged it off and eaten it!

Sighing, Huai Yu turned back into the house and brought out a ground trap net, deciding to set it in her own pond once again. A snakehead possessed a lot of strength, but this ground net was made of woven nylon thread. In the water, the fish wouldn’t be able to tear it apart easily. It was far better than leaving it to wreak havoc in her pond!

Then, she turned her attention to the other small barnyard grass tree on the opposite side of the pond.

She called it small, but that was only in comparison to the other water-filtering barnyard grass tree. If the barnyard grass in a rice paddy ever grew to this size, countless farmers would weep themselves senseless by the fields.

The other tree had been given the power of accelerated growth, while this one had previously received Purification. This time...

She debated with herself before deciding to give it more of her Purification Ability. After all, she had already invested so much into it, and she was reluctant to just change routes so easily—even though she still had fifteen pounds of barnyard grass seeds lying around.

Perhaps because she hadn’t used this ability for a while, the power surged out much more smoothly than before.

The barnyard grass tree in front of her swayed its branches and leaves. Huai Yu could easily sense its joy, though she had no idea what function it could actually develop. But no matter what its function was, as long as it wasn’t as infuriating as the other barnyard grass tree next to it, she would be happy. Even if their functions ended up being exactly the same, having two of them together would surely spark some competitive spirit, right? It could even speed up the filtering of the pond!

Holding onto this thought, she spared no effort in pouring her ability into it.

Half an hour later, Huai Yu was so exhausted that she had to cling to the trunk, unable to stand on her own. Yet, no matter how she looked at the barnyard grass tree in front of her, it hadn’t changed in the slightest.

"It shouldn’t be like this..." she murmured.

This was the first time she had used her ability on something without feeling any tangible feedback. Even the tree’s inherent Mutant Value hadn’t been cleared; it remained at a level that was slightly annoying but acceptable.

Huai Yu stared at her palm. If the surge of power hadn’t been so obvious, she would have doubted whether her ability was even working. She simply hugged the trunk. "Have you changed at all...?"

The oversized, flat leaves that looked extremely similar to straw rustled with a SWISH, displaying a visible joy. Her power had clearly worked.

But where was the effect? Huai Yu still had no idea.

She walked two circles around the tree, eventually deciding to set the matter aside for now.

As she passed the other barnyard grass tree next door, she saw its branches and leaves staying completely motionless and well-behaved. Spheres of water rolled off the leaves and dropped down with a PLOP, dripping continuously without the slightest hesitation. It acted so obedient, so honest, and so humble.

But she clearly couldn’t see any changes in the neighboring barnyard grass tree yet. She thought indignantly, "Hmph, it must be mocking me!"

Huai Yu tilted her head high and walked away without looking back.

She still had to go pick some more roses!

Ke Taichiro really liked wild grass with medicinal properties, but he liked things he hadn’t encountered before even more. After ignoring him for a few days, the jars in the house were full once again. However, colorful spheres like the ones made from Celery-leaved buttercup were rare now; most of the new ones were plain-colored.

Huai Yu tested a few, but since she wasn’t injured—and had no intention of letting herself get injured—she hadn’t figured out their effects yet.

Now, she was going to gather some flower petals or leaves from the Rose Corridor for Ke Taichiro!

If any random wild grass could become so powerful after passing through Ke Taichiro’s mouth, the widely praised Rose Corridor couldn’t possibly be completely useless, right?
