Chapter 137: Chapter 114: Severe Blood Loss [Two in One]

For the past few days, she had been making do with nutrient fluids. Now, she was ravenous and craving real food, feeling as if every drop of fat had been drained from her body.

And then there were her chicks. She hadn’t had any time to take care of them lately, and she wondered if they were even getting enough to eat.

Big and Second Pup were also quite pitiful. The two goslings lived all alone in the bamboo forest, completely neglected...

And finally, there was Ke Taichiro. As the greatest contributor to extending Zhou Qian’s life, her Taichiro had been incredibly well-behaved. She wondered if it was feeling lonely without anyone to keep it company.

At the thought of this, Huai Yu could hardly sit still.

But the bucket of water in front of her was still one water globule short of being full. She had to watch the barnyard grass tree quiver as it squeezed out a new drop before swapping in a fresh bucket. Only then did she carry the water back into the house.

Standing at the door, she called out softly, "Ke Taichiro?"

The door curtain fluttered gently in the breeze, but there was nothing inside. She could only vaguely make out a large white porcelain bowl piled high with a mound of colorful, round pellets. Looking over at the chicken coop on the right, the ugly little chicks—currently in their awkward molting phase—were also nowhere to be seen.

After a moment of thought, Huai Yu didn’t go looking for them. Instead, she started cleaning the house.

First, she soaked the dirty clothes in laundry detergent, followed by two towels that had completely lost their original white color... On second thought, she decided to just leave them soaking and use them as rags from now on. After all, she was now a wealthy person with over a thousand points to her name. Buying two new towels would be a breeze.

Then she started scooping water out of the bathtub, basin by basin. She thought that Zhou Qian hadn’t planned it out well enough—the bathtub really needed wheels on the bottom! Plus, because he had been soaking continuously, she had constantly scooped out cold water to replace it with hot water. The tub was far more full than when she took baths herself.

By the time she finally managed to splash all the water far away and hauled the heavy tub outside with a great deal of panting to scrub it down, Huai Yu was pounding her aching lower back. She decided she would have to boil another pot of water later to scrub it down one more time.

Was the work done?

Not even close.

She still had to scrub the bloodstains off the floor, give the entire house a thorough cleaning, and scrub the large basin of soaking clothes.

Just thinking about it made Huai Yu dizzy. She wondered why someone as amazing as herself hadn’t managed to earn enough to hire a servant by now!

Furthermore, she hadn’t checked on her vegetable patch in three days.

With everything piling up, it wasn’t until she went inside to tidy up that she realized she had forgotten to change the water for the soaking bean sprouts. Now, they had grown into bright green bean seedlings.

Since she didn’t have any strong seasonings at home, the bean seedlings wouldn’t taste very good on their own. Besides, she was absolutely exhausted and didn’t want to cook anything today. Yet the seedlings were already getting a bit tough.

Huai Yu sighed. She simply plucked all the bean seedlings, grabbed half of them, and stood at the door, calling out affectionately, "CLUCK CLUCK CLUCK CLUCK..."

At the familiar sound of feeding time, the little chicks popped out of the distant grass. Flapping their flightless little wings, they sprinted all the way back and dove straight into the chicken coop, tilting their heads up and waiting eagerly for her to scatter rice.

"There’s no more rice." In truth, Huai Yu simply didn’t want to go fetch any. She tossed the bean seedlings inside. "These were sprouted using purified beans and water, anyway. Let’s see if you guys like them."

The chicks stared at the fresh, tender green leaves. They scratched at them a couple of times with their spindly claws before curiously taking a peck.

"CHEEP!"

They chirped, hopping and bouncing around the coop as their sharp little beaks pecked away non-stop. They obviously loved it.

Although Huai Yu had scattered the greens perfunctorily out of sheer exhaustion, a smile still crept onto her face seeing how much the chicks enjoyed them.

Next up were Big and Second Pup! Didn’t geese also eat tender leaves and shoots? Seeing how happily they pecked at bamboo shoots in the forest every day, it was high time for a change of pace. Especially since she hadn’t been able to spare even a sliver of attention for them lately. She had watched them hatch with her own eyes, after all, so she actually felt a faint sense of guilt.

Carrying the remaining half basin of bean seedlings, she headed around to the back of the house. Just as she turned the corner, she heard Kuang Biao’s booming voice ring out.

"Oh my! A young girl like you can’t just go picking up injured men and bringing them home!

"Have you been reading too many romance novels? You can’t let your brain turn to mush over boys! How about I give a holler and call the Defense Army for you?"

Huai Yu looked listless. "Thanks for the offer... but he already left."

"Oh." Kuang Biao breathed a sigh of relief. "As long as he’s gone. I saw you crying several times... Sigh, you’re just too young, and it’s lonely living all by yourself out here. How about this? Cross-species romance is also very romantic. I can be your boyfriend."

Huai Yu was speechless.

If the heavens had to create a Kuang Biao, why did they have to give him that mouth!
