Chapter 125: Chapter 109: Spider

"Is this... a ball rolled from Celery-leaved buttercup?"

Just as Huai Yu was about to ask, she saw Taichiro release his front claws, and the colorful Klang Ball fell directly beneath the spider web.

The next moment, the quietly feeding spider suddenly paused. Then, without looking back, it scrambled wildly along the furthest strand of silk, vanishing without a trace in seconds.

Huai Yu was completely dumbfounded. She looked at Ke Taichiro, then at the Klang Ball discarded on the bamboo leaves. She opened her mouth but found herself at a loss for words.

However, she already understood what Ke Taichiro was trying to convey. Aching at the waste, she carefully picked up the little ball and tapped his antennae. "Okay, okay, I know how amazing you are. The purpose of this ball is to repel insects, right?"

Seeing Ke Taichiro remain silent, she pondered the medicinal properties of the Celery-leaved buttercup and added, "And to neutralize poison, right? Especially snake venom and the like."

Ke Taichiro flapped his wings once, then lay on the ground in satisfaction. Searching around, he dug out two tender bamboo leaves and started chewing.

Huai Yu sighed. "Your teeth and jaws are seriously impressive!"

She turned and went back into the house, casually dragging two bamboo poles with her, while pondering a few things. She wondered if Gao Ming knew about Ke Taichiro’s ability. Boss Tang definitely didn’t know. With two days left before the market closed for the Labor Day holiday, she needed to go and explain this clearly. Also, when exactly was Zhou Qian coming back? Should she bring a bag of locust flowers over and ask?

Still feeling conflicted, Huai Yu went to check on the field. The newly sprouted vegetable seedlings were still not ready to eat, and the sweet potato vines were incredibly tender and cute. All she could eat right now were locust flower pancakes with pork cracklings. After all, she didn’t even have eggs right now.

On the other hand, the four chicks had stepped outside for the first time today. Without Big and Second needing to lead them, they were already familiarizing themselves with scratching at the grass in front of the door. CHIRP, CHIRP! They looked incredibly energetic. Which was perfectly normal.

Then there was the fish in the puddle. After a night, it seemed to have recovered. It rapidly slapped the water’s surface in the shallow puddle, leaped high into the air, and finally crashed back down! But no matter how hard it thrashed around, it maintained a stubborn demeanor—and looked absolutely delicious. If she were to sell it, it would definitely fetch a high price.

However, Huai Yu only hesitated for a moment. She had already saved up some points, and since having a fish was a rare treat, she decided to keep it for herself! Even if she couldn’t finish it, she could fry the fish chunks and dry them. She just desperately, desperately wanted to eat something different.

Some time later.

HONK, HONK!

Just as she poured the locust flower batter into the pan, she suddenly heard the blaring of a car horn outside. Zhou Qian was back! He was the only one who would drive here!

Overjoyed, Huai Yu grabbed the nearby bag of dried locust flowers and rushed out, completely forgetting that this was a massive, full bag she had been so reluctant to part with! The car was parked quite a distance away. Perhaps out of fear of the Rose Corridor, it had stopped even further out than usual. It took Huai Yu quite a while to run over.

Panting heavily, a genuine smile blossomed on her face. "Brother Zhou Qian—"

Her voice abruptly cut off. She silently took a step back, her expression turning guarded. Soon, her wariness relaxed, as the people in front of her were also wearing Defense Army uniforms.

Huai Yu’s heart pounded like a drum. She wasn’t sure if her racing heartbeat was because she had run too fast, or because of the heavy, sinking feeling in her chest. Regardless, all the color instantly drained from her face.

The two people in the car looked back at her with complex expressions. After a long while, one of them asked, "Are you Huai Yu?"

Huai Yu pursed her lips and nodded. "I am."

Someone immediately stepped out of the car and opened the rear door. "Please get in. Zhou Qian is waiting for you."

This was Huai Yu’s first time riding in a car. She had fantasized in countless scenarios about owning a car and how convenient traveling would be. Yet now that she was actually sitting inside, the cold, suffocating atmosphere—mixed with her countless terrifying imaginations—made her want to bolt and run for her life. Even the bumps of the ride and the scenery of the Wilderness flashing quickly past the window couldn’t stir a ripple of emotion in her heart.

She only felt stifled inside the vehicle. She clutched the bag of dried locust flowers, her fingers digging in harder and harder until the bag was squashed flat. Finally unable to hold back, she broke the serious, silent atmosphere in the car. "Where is Zhou Qian?"

The two Defense Army soldiers sitting in the front remained silent for a moment. Then, they replied in low voices, "He’s waiting for you at Flower City Hospital."

At that moment, an untimely thought of Lin Xuefeng entered Huai Yu’s mind. His personality was completely different from Zhou Qian’s, the time they had spent with her was entirely different, and the version of her they knew was equally different.
