Chapter 123: Chapter 108: Dandelion Ball [Two-in-One]

Ke Taichiro, however, didn’t understand. It stubbornly stood there holding the ball, its two antennae bending toward her in a remarkably well-behaved manner.

Huai Yu shamefully wavered for a moment. But the next second, she firmed her resolve. "No need, really."

Her refusal was far too obvious, and Ke Taichiro clearly grew a bit anxious. FLAP, FLAP. Its wings beat hard twice, and it took two steps forward, still clutching the item. Then, it released its front claws, dropping the yellow-and-green ball into a nearby water bucket.

Huai Yu fell utterly silent.

She felt a bit of pity for the bucket of clean water, but looking at Ke Taichiro again, she found she couldn’t muster any anger. Instead, she was actually worried that she might have hurt its feelings.

Ke Taichiro’s wings fluttered once more, its gaze still fixed eagerly upon her. Huai Yu paused. A new thought suddenly struck her.

"This couldn’t be... medicinal bathwater, could it? I don’t have to drink it, right?"

Naturally, Ke Taichiro couldn’t answer. But Huai Yu had always been daring enough to experiment, and she tentatively reached her hand inside. She figured this bucket of water couldn’t be used for anything else anyway, and she absolutely wasn’t going to consume the ball.

The moment her fingers dipped into the water, a refreshing, cooling sensation instantly shot from her fingertips to her wrists, up to her elbows, and slightly beyond. The feeling was fleeting, but because her arms were currently sore, swollen, aching, and slightly feverish, the contrast was incredibly distinct.

Startled, Huai Yu glanced back at Ke Taichiro. Without another word, she rolled up her sleeve and submerged her entire arm into the bucket.

"Sss..." She couldn’t help but let out a soft sound.

Plunging an entire arm into ice-cold water in this season should have been incredibly uncomfortable. Yet, Huai Yu could clearly feel that cooling breath surge up her heavy, aching arm. Following the slight chill came a gentle warmth that soothed the soreness and swelling across her entire limb.

By the time the sensation completely faded, Huai Yu had lost track of how long it had been. She stiffly lifted her arm out, only to find that every trace of exhaustion had vanished without a trace.

Looking aside, she noticed Ke Taichiro had long since left the room. Huai Yu simply slipped off her coat, exposing her shoulders. Then, she soaked a towel in the medicinal water and dabbed it onto the wounds there.

Having carried a heavy woven basket all day, her shoulders had borne far more pressure than they should have. Now, everything from her bones and meridians to her flesh ached fiercely. The two indentation marks were swollen and purplish-red, looking quite horrifying. According to Huai Yu’s experience with manual labor, a good night’s sleep would usually dispel most of this by the next day, but that wouldn’t erase the suffering she felt right now.

Applying the medicine-soaked towel to her shoulder, she felt an icy coolness, followed by a rapid heat radiating through her skin. It was as if the congested blood inside was actively surging and colliding.

In a daze, realization dawned on her. Ke Taichiro’s true ability was to extract and purify medicinal properties!

Heavens! Thank goodness its existence hadn’t been revealed to too many people. Otherwise, Huai Yu could easily imagine that Gao Ming wouldn’t be able to protect it at all.

However, the night air was still too chilly. Huai Yu silently put her clothes back on and started boiling fresh water. If nothing else, Zhou Qian had been extremely thorough in organizing the various supplies for her new home. She even had a small synthetic resin bathtub!

Huai Yu reorganized the Klang Balls in the basin. After setting two yellow-and-green Dandelion Balls aside, she stuffed the rest back into the jar. Since she was so exhausted today, she decided to indulge herself, use up all the stored water, and take a proper medicinal bath!

Hot water was slowly poured into the tub, and the two Dandelion Balls quickly dissolved inside. Once Huai Yu emptied all the water in the house into it—including the bucket of cold water where the first ball had dissolved—the small bathtub rippled with warm waves.

She tested the water temperature, then carefully sat inside the tub, full of anticipation. The refreshing medicinal properties and the warm water washed continuously over her body. Huai Yu let out a long sigh as all of today’s fatigue melted into nothingness.

At that moment, inside Flower City Hospital, another person was also submerged in a specially formulated liquid.

BEEP. BEEP. The monitor connected to the head of the bed emitted cold, rhythmic alerts. A doctor and a person wearing a Defense Army uniform were sighing.

"There’s nothing we can do. The toxin has already infected his entire body. It’s too late for amputation. When he was brought in, it wasn’t just his body—his heart was already in a state of swelling."

"Isn’t this the special antidote solution? Is it useless too? As long as we can save his life! Aren’t our prosthetics excellent? It doesn’t matter if you have to cut it off!"

"It’s not about whether we amputate or not—we already performed an emergency amputation of his left leg when he was brought in!

"But... the toxin is too severe." The doctor shook his head dejectedly. "Even before the catastrophe, treating a snakebite required the specific antivenom. And now, he’s been injected with digestive fluids by a mutated spider..."
