Chapter 109: Chapter 100: Do You Want a Klang Ball?

When Huai Yu woke up again, the room was dimly lit. No light filtered through the curtains, leaving the space in heavy darkness.

She turned on the solar lamp in a daze. "Did I sleep all the way until midnight?" she wondered.

Her body felt sticky and sweaty, but her spirits were high, and her mind felt much clearer. She figured she had finally recovered from her illness.

She raised her wrist to check her watch. Was it two in the morning?

Rubbing her stomach, she realized she was starving—so hungry it made her feel anxious. She had no choice but to drag herself up and rummage through her cabinets to find something to eat.

As she was searching, she suddenly heard the chicks outside the door.

"CHEEP CHEEP CHEEP..."

"Huh? They usually don’t make noise at night," she thought.

Huai Yu opened the door. The sky outside was gloomy, looking as though it was about to rain, but it was clearly still daytime!

She was dumbfounded.

She checked her watch again. Had she slept all the way until two o’clock the next afternoon?

This was the downside of not having any neighbors—it was too easy to completely lose track of time. And the sky looked like it was about to pour. Why hadn’t yesterday morning’s weather forecast mentioned this?

She had even dragged her sick body out to water the fields!

Her peanuts, yams, soybeans, chili peppers, cucumbers, sweet potatoes, and the newly sprouted, diced potatoes she had just planted!

She was so annoyed!

Feeling frustrated, Huai Yu took out some flour and pickled bracken, deciding to make herself a bowl of dough drop soup.

However...

If it rained, wouldn’t the mountains produce a lot more mushrooms, fungi, and wild vegetables? Would bamboo fungi sprout in the bamboo forest too?

If so, she could pick some and give them to Zhou Qian—

She paused, suddenly remembering the muddled and hazy dream she had last night.

Even someone as optimistic as Huai Yu couldn’t help but sigh in a bout of melancholy.

Everyone she had met since waking up had been very kind, but the two people who treated her the absolute best had now both gone to the Wilderness.

What exactly was the Wilderness like?

Was that dead, decaying giant tree from her dream Lin Xuefeng’s doing?

And it was so strange—why had she only dreamed of Lin Xuefeng and not Zhou Qian? She had known Zhou Qian for much longer!

Huai Yu shook her head, ultimately attributing it to her true nature: she was a sucker for a handsome face.

After all, Zhou Qian was dark and brawny. While he seemed like a reliable older brother when he smiled, he still wasn’t as charming as Lin Xuefeng!

Lin Xuefeng was the man who had crushed someone’s skull right in front of her, teaching her how to eliminate problems at their roots! In front of Zhou Qian, on the other hand, she had always acted like a well-behaved child with zero lethality. How could she possibly do something like that in his presence?

She couldn’t help but recall Lin Xuefeng’s movements from that night, and she tentatively began to mimic them.

"Water System... is really cool!" she muttered.

But the chicks at the door were still chirping frantically, acting as if they had been starved for three days and three nights. Huai Yu had no choice but to set her emotions aside. For convenience, she grabbed a handful of rice grains and tossed them in.

"Didn’t I feed you right before I went to bed yesterday? You’ve only missed food for one night and half a day. How did you get this hungry?"

Huai Yu mumbled to herself as she looked at the yellowed, stale rice in the bag. Opening it released a slightly moldy smell—a texture that even her Purification Ability couldn’t fix.

She glanced at her bracelet. She wondered when she would finally be able to eat freshly harvested rice again.

After a moment of thought, she lavishly grabbed another handful and scattered it for the chicks.

With all this feeding, the chicks were growing sturdily. The creamy-yellow fuzz on their bodies was gradually fading, replaced by mottled wing and tail feathers. Their cuteness had instantly plummeted.

But looks didn’t matter. She squatted by the enclosure and watched them for a good while, already unable to resist imagining what they would look like when they grew up.

She didn’t know if they were roosters or hens yet. When the time came, should she wait for them to lay eggs, or stew one first?

Should she stew it with mushrooms or bamboo shoots?

Ah, there were still so many cooking spices she hadn’t bought yet!

After stirring the dough drops, she poured them into the pot, where they cooked quickly. Huai Yu placed her simple sickbed meal on the table, deciding that since she was just recovering from a severe illness, she wouldn’t do any chores today!

It felt rare for her to have such a relaxing time during the day. After finishing her meal, she lazily lay back on the bed and zoned out for a long time.

Then, her eyes landed on the Klang Balls she had brought back yesterday. After a moment of thought, Huai Yu poured a basinful out and carried it to the Rose Corridor.

Whether it was the change of season or something else, after just one night, the Rose Corridor seemed even more glossy and vibrant.

Layers of pinkish-white petals were scattered across the ground, yet the branches continued to sprout endless tiny flower buds. The serrated edges of the leaves were terrifyingly sharp, and even the small thorns along its vines looked as if they could pierce straight through a person.

"Wow..." Huai Yu was a bit stunned.

How should one describe a plant’s mental state? Anyway, at first glance, its overflowing vitality was exceptionally striking.

After all, she hadn’t even given the Rose Corridor a tiny bit of her ability yet! Neither her Purification Ability nor her growth-stimulating powers.

She offered the basin to the plant. "This is the fermented fertilizer I just brought back. Is it useful to you?"

The pitch-black ping-pong ball-like spheres were piled up in the basin. The Rose Corridor’s branches and leaves carefully leaned in, as if inspecting them.

After a moment, a tender vine poked at the spheres a couple of times. Finally, with a sharp SMACK, it whipped the Klang Ball it had just touched, sending it flying far away onto the ground, utterly disdainful.

"Got it," Huai Yu muttered.

She couldn’t help but frown at the Klang Balls. "Why doesn’t anyone want these? Is this stuff really only good for making tea?"

Kuang Biao complained that the Klang Balls’ fertilizing power was even worse than Big Pup’s and Second Pup’s poop, the barnyard grass tree currently lacked the ability to voice an opinion, and the goslings obviously couldn’t care less.

And now, the Rose Corridor was rejecting them too...

Sigh. She wondered how Uncle Zaozi, who had used them to relieve his agonizing constipation the other day, was doing now.

Looking at the still-swaying Rose Corridor, Huai Yu extended her hand. "Um... do you need my ability?"

The Rose Corridor’s branches rustled, and a slender vine wrapped around her wrist. Although Huai Yu didn’t know which type of ability it wanted, giving a little of both couldn’t hurt.

After some thought, she gently grasped a flowering branch. Wisps of purification power surged toward the leaves, slowly seeping into the stem.

But as she inspected the Rose Corridor from left to right, she noticed nothing. "It doesn’t seem to have changed."

Deciding to switch tactics, Huai Yu channeled her growth-stimulating power instead.

For some reason, she felt exceptionally energetic after waking up today. Even channeling her power felt smoother than usual, as if she had evolved during her dream.

She subconsciously poured in a bit more power. Suddenly, it was as if something surged into her mind, and she froze in place.

All around her was pure darkness. Within the winding, thread-like underground Dark River, the water flowed silently.

And her... no, the Rose Corridor’s taproots and fibrous roots were spreading out, undulating up and down. They finally followed the mountain ridge upward, converging at the end into a...

Tree cocoon?

Huai Yu opened her eyes. The Rose Corridor in front of her had thick branches and glossy leaves. Pinkish-white flowers clustered tightly together, filling the wind with a rich, fragrant scent.
