Chapter 107: Chapter 99: Weed Tree

When she looked up again, the water in the puddle was only half full.

Huai Yu stared in silence. She watched for a moment, then placed the bucket under the leaf again. This time, she adjusted the angle and took a few steps back.

After a while, a new water ball obediently dropped, landing precisely in the bucket with a loud SPLASH. This time, the leaf at the front didn’t sway in the slightest.

She thought, "Mystery solved. This barnyard grass tree is so mischievous!"

Huai Yu sniffled. Lifting the bucket, she saw that with just that single water ball, it was already a third full. The evening wind was too cold, and her raincoat couldn’t block out the damp, sticky feeling. She carried the bucket back into the house and carefully reached out to sense it.

Hmm, it was still "dirty." The Mutant Value hadn’t changed at all; it was exactly the same as the pond.

But this water...

She scooped up a little with a bowl to examine it closely. The water was crystal clear. Aside from a few specks of floating dust on the surface that could only be seen from specific angles, there didn’t seem to be a single impurity.

Huai Yu froze in amazement. A moment later, she sneezed violently.

"ACHOO!"

Rubbing her nose, she finally perked up again. Even though she didn’t have an underground filtering well, she now had an above-ground faucet. This barnyard grass was wonderful!

As for the other one...

Huai Yu circled it, observing it for a long time. She shook its branches and leaves, but it remained completely motionless. There was no continuous GURGLE GURGLE of drinking water, either. It seemed to be just a quiet, ordinary barnyard grass tree.

She wasn’t in a rush to figure it out. It was growing right by her pond anyway; she would discover its specific mutation direction sooner or later.

Looking at the remaining half basket of Klang Balls, Huai Yu pondered for a moment before taking a few out to the barnyard grass tree. She certainly wouldn’t drink them herself. Give them to Kuang Biao? Kuang Biao wouldn’t think much of them, either. Use them in the fields? Such a tiny amount of fermented compost would be a drop in the ocean. She might as well feed them to the barnyard grass tree first!

As she buried the Klang Balls in the soil near the roots, she couldn’t help but mutter, "I’ve heard that barnyard millet is edible... Since you’ve grown this big, you should be able to produce quite a bit, right? Please produce a little more for me to see. What if it’s delicious..."

She let out a long sigh. Humans really were insatiable creatures. How long had it been since she had absolutely nothing? Yet now, after eating cheap, years-old rice, she was actually starting to get sick of it.

After another busy evening, Huai Yu brought out the "spiritual nourishment" she had purchased. Frowning as she read, she couldn’t help but glance up at the Roses in the vase before her. After staring at them for a while, she set her book down and leaned against the long table.

In the largest round-bellied, slender-necked white porcelain vase, a massive bouquet of vibrant Roses bloomed wildly. They didn’t look haggard from being snipped, nor were their petals withering quickly. Instead, they simply absorbed the ordinary tap water in the vase and bloomed quietly.

Kuang Biao’s bamboo branch had gradually turned yellow, and the plucked light-blue primroses had already withered. Only the pink-and-white interwoven Roses continued to bloom passionately on their stems. A faint, subtle fragrance lingered in the room.

As Huai Yu stared at the Roses, her mind began to wander.

Mutated plants were incredibly powerful. Ones with tempers like Kuang Biao’s usually needed to be suppressed by overwhelming strength before they would patiently listen to anything she said. There were also those whose mutations only strengthened their bodies to bear more fruit—like the massive pines on Sanqing Mountain—but they had good temperaments to begin with.

But... what about the Rose Corridor?

Kuang Biao was so fierce on the mountain that she couldn’t even put up a fight, yet it had been suppressed effortlessly by the Rose Corridor without breaking a sweat.

Huai Yu had never fully understood Zhou Qian’s previous wariness toward it, even thinking they were exaggerating. Yet even someone as formidable as Lin Xuefeng had been so terrified of angering the Rose Corridor on that rainy night that he hadn’t given that heavily-sentenced criminal a single chance to struggle.

It was clearly so terrifyingly powerful, so why was she the only one who could get close to it? She could even come and go as she pleased, and was allowed to snip its branches for her vase?

Huai Yu recalled what Zhou Qian had told her earlier: "General Wu Yue risked his life to catalyze the growth of the Rose Corridor."

But... why did looking at the Rose Corridor fill her with joy, while merely thinking about Wu Yue made her feel disgusted?

Furthermore, when he tried to take Lin Xuefeng’s Ice Sculpture, he couldn’t even block the sealing power within the Ice Sculpture. Although Zhou Qian hadn’t said it explicitly, since Zhou Qian had been injured himself, the other party definitely had been as well. After all, if Wu Yue had the capability, he could have easily blocked the backlash for Zhou Qian.

In other words, Wu Yue’s abilities couldn’t even surpass Lin Xuefeng’s.

Then... was the Rose Corridor, which even Lin Xuefeng feared, truly catalyzed by him?
