Chapter 213: Chapter 213: Green Tea Magic vs. the Wife-Protecting Clapback Machine: Total Failure

Yun Sheng looked at Lin Yueyao’s gentle, smiling face and couldn’t help but scoff inwardly.

’Lin Yueyao is like a ghost you can’t shake. She just came to see me last night, and now she’s back.’

Outwardly, however, she showed no expression. She pretended she hadn’t heard the question and had no intention of making an introduction.

Lin Yueyao didn’t seem to mind Yun Sheng’s attitude. Her gaze landed on Xing Che, and she gave a slight bow, her voice soft.

"Hello, I’m Yun Sheng’s sister, Lin Yueyao. Thank you for taking care of Yun Sheng."

Xing Che had his hands in his pockets. He gave her a lazy glance. "You don’t need to thank me. I’m taking care of Shengsheng, and it has nothing to do with you."

Lin Yueyao’s smile froze for an instant. The false mask of gentleness on her face almost cracked at Xing Che’s words.

Watching this, Yun Sheng felt a sense of satisfaction.

’Even though Xing Che is usually so playful, when it comes to shutting people down, he really doesn’t pull any punches.’

"I don’t believe I’ve seen you at the Tower before. Are you one of the accompanying Sentinels on this trip?"

There wasn’t a hint of annoyance on Lin Yueyao’s face, but as she spoke, her eyes were discreetly sizing up Xing Che.

Xing Che didn’t answer, merely raising an eyebrow.

She didn’t seem awkward at all and continued, "Or did you two only meet and get to know each other after coming here? You seem to have a pretty good relationship..."

Yun Sheng pursed her lips, not bothering to respond.

Xing Che, however, spoke up. "Yun Sheng and I knew each other back in the Eighth Star Zone. I didn’t expect to run into her again here."

As he spoke, he turned to look at Yun Sheng, his amber-gold eyes filled with a gentle light.

Lin Yueyao saw his unabashed gaze, and her mind started working.

"Since you’ve known Yun Sheng for a while, you should come visit us at home when we’re back on the Capital Star. My parents and I don’t know much about Yun Sheng’s time in the Eighth Star Zone. After she came back, she didn’t really talk about her past... We’d all love to know more."

The words were spoken gently and considerately, but to Yun Sheng’s ears, they were just grating.

’What does she mean, I didn’t talk about my past?’

’From the moment I returned to the Lin Family until I left the Capital Star for this training, did a single person ever ask me what my life was like in the Eighth Star Zone?’

’They were the ones who didn’t care, but coming from Lin Yueyao’s mouth, it made it sound like I was the one who was hard to get close to.’

Just as Yun Sheng was about to speak, Xing Che beat her to it with a laugh.

It was a soft laugh, but it carried a hint of nonchalant chilliness.

"No thanks. I’m close with Shengsheng, not with you all. It would be awkward visiting your house."

Lin Yueyao’s smile finally started to waver.

Her fingers tightened slightly, then relaxed.

"You’re right. That was thoughtless of me. Well, Yun Sheng, I’ll let you two talk. I’m going back to rest."

Having been rebuffed several times in a row, and truly exhausted from providing guidance all night, Lin Yueyao finally lost the will to keep up the act. With that, she turned and left.

Xing Che watched her back and let out a soft scoff.

"That sister of yours really has a way with words."

Yun Sheng pulled her gaze away, her tone flat. "She’s no sister of mine."

After Lin Yueyao’s interruption, she was no longer in the mood to chat with Xing Che. She turned and started walking toward the tents.

Xing Che followed her, his pace unhurried. After a few steps, he suddenly spoke in a low voice.

"Yun Sheng."

"Hm?"

"She’s an S-class Guide," Xing Che’s voice was very low, tinged with serious inquiry. "Is that why you want to become stronger?"

Yun Sheng’s steps faltered for a moment.

She didn’t turn around. After a few seconds of silence, she spoke softly, "Not entirely. I just don’t want to always have to hide behind someone else whenever there’s danger."

Xing Che looked at her slender back, at her slightly tense shoulders, and his heart suddenly softened.

He took a step forward and gently ruffled the top of her hair.

"Alright," his voice returned to its usual lazy drawl, yet it held an undefinable gentleness. "Then starting today, I’ll teach you. You won’t have to hide behind anyone. You’ll be able to fight on your own."

Yun Sheng looked up, meeting his amber-gold eyes.

The morning light fell on her face, making her eyes seem especially bright.

"Okay."

The corners of her mouth curved up. The smile was faint, but it bloomed from the depths of her eyes, like the first ray of dawn landing on a lake, shattering into a gentle shimmer.

Xing Che saw her smile, and his heart suddenly skipped a beat.

It came so suddenly, as if someone had given a light tap on his heart—not hard, but enough to make the whole thing tremble.

The base of his ears suddenly burned hot. The heat spread from the tips of his ears all the way to his neck, and even his breathing hitched for a moment.

Xing Che’s Adam’s apple bobbed. His gaze lingered on Yun Sheng’s face for an instant before quickly darting away, as if he’d been scalded by her smile.

"You should go back and rest, then. I’ll teach you when I have time."

He suddenly quickened his pace, tossing out the sentence as he left.

Yun Sheng watched his retreating back, stunned for a moment.

"What’s he running so fast for?"

She mumbled under her breath, then looked away, shook her head slightly, and turned to walk toward her tent.

When she lifted the flap and walked inside, the tent was already bustling with activity.

Cheng Nian was sitting on her bunk, holding a cup of water, but her eyes were fixed on a terminal screen.

Li Wen was leaning in next to her, also looking thoughtful.

"What’s wrong?" Yun Sheng walked over and sat down next to Cheng Nian.

Cheng Nian handed her the terminal and lowered her voice. "Look, the notice says they’re changing the chief instructor. Major General Qi is returning to the Capital Star to recover from his injuries."

Yun Sheng took the terminal and glanced at it, her brow twitching slightly.

’Didn’t Lin Yueyao just rush over from the Capital Star last night to perform guidance for Qi Yao? Why would they change the chief instructor now and send Qi Yao back to the Capital Star?’

’Could this be what Bai Ye meant by "solving it immediately"?’

’Lin Yueyao came to provide guidance for Qi Yao. If Qi Yao is returning to the Capital Star, of course she has to go back too.’

"But didn’t Miss Yue Yao come?" The voice of a nearby cadet rang out, filled with confusion. "She’s an S-class Guide. Couldn’t her guidance even help Major General Qi get better?"

Everyone knew that the physical constitution of an S-Class Sentinel was extremely strong. As long as their spiritual power stabilized, any physical injuries would heal quickly.

The training was almost over. Changing the chief instructor now was definitely not a good thing for Qi Yao.

"Don’t tell me Miss Yue Yao’s guidance didn’t work?"

"How is that possible? Miss Yue Yao is an S-class Guide!" another cadet immediately retorted, his tone full of disbelief.

The voices in the tent gradually grew louder, one person speaking after another, like the rustling of leaves scattered by the wind.

Yun Sheng listened to the discussions, her eyes lowered, and said nothing.

Just then, a set of hurried footsteps sounded from outside the tent, and the flap was thrown open.

An assistant instructor poked his head and torso inside, his gaze sweeping around the tent before finally landing on Yun Sheng.

"Yun Sheng, Major General Qi wants to see you."

The tent fell silent in an instant. All eyes snapped to Yun Sheng.

Yun Sheng’s lips thinned into a line as she cursed inwardly: ’Why is Qi Yao calling for me now? That guy just barely got better. What kind of trouble is he trying to stir up now?!’
