Every Sentinel I Dreamed of Came Looking for Me
Chapter 174: Go After Her
Chapter 174: Chapter 174: Go After Her
Luo Cheng’s eyes stung.
He didn’t understand.
He had a fiancée, an S-class Guide no less, so why would the General rather bear it all himself than accept soothing?
"General," he began again, trying to persuade him. "Your spiritual landscape already has old injuries. You won’t be able to hold on if this continues! Even if you don’t want to let Miss Yue Yao come, I—I can go ask another S-class Guide..."
"Get out."
Bai Ye’s voice rang out.
Hoarse and deep, it carried an undeniable hardness.
Luo Cheng opened his mouth, wanting to say more, but he met that pair of crimson eyes.
There was no anger in Bai Ye’s eyes, no intimidation. Instead, they were perfectly calm.
But it was this very calmness that made all his words catch in his throat.
He lowered his head, took a few steps back, and finally obeyed, lifting the tent flap and stepping out.
The tent fell silent once more.
Bai Ye stood in place, staring at where the flap had fallen, unmoving for a long time.
After a while, he turned and slowly walked back to the edge of the bed, then sat down.
The simple military cot let out a soft creak.
He slowly closed his eyes.
But Yun Sheng’s figure quickly surfaced in his mind—the look on her face when she said with such conviction, "I already have a Sentinel," and the sight of her back as she turned and left without a moment’s hesitation.
His violent spiritual power rampaged through his spiritual landscape once more, and the fissures that were already spreading began to fracture even faster.
Bai Ye’s brow furrowed sharply. He clenched his hands into tight fists, the veins on their backs throbbing, and a violent aura instantly swept through the entire tent.
Just as the spiritual power around him grew more chaotic, a silvery-white light suddenly leaped out from his side.
The Holy Light White Tiger appeared by the bed, crouched down, and gently licked the back of his hand with its tongue.
Bai Ye didn’t react.
The White Tiger tilted its head, then took his sleeve in its mouth and tugged forcefully to the side.
The pull wasn’t strong, but it was persistent.
Bai Ye finally opened his eyes and looked at his spiritual body.
The White Tiger stared with its big, round tiger eyes, its teeth still clamped onto his sleeve. It kept tugging while jerking its head toward the tent entrance.
’What are you still doing here? Go after her!’
Seeing its antics, Bai Ye’s lips twisted into a bitter smile.
He raised his hand and gently stroked the White Tiger’s furry head.
"I told you, until I’ve dealt with the matter of Lin Yueyao, I won’t bother her again."
The White Tiger let out a dissatisfied whimper, released his sleeve, and nudged his hand with its head.
When he didn’t respond, it nudged him once, then nudged him again.
Bai Ye sighed.
"Stop it."
The White Tiger didn’t listen. It kept nudging him with its head, its tail slapping against the military cot, making dull THUMP THUMP sounds.
Bai Ye watched it, a complex emotion flickering in his eyes.
He knew what the White Tiger was thinking, what it was worried about.
But he wouldn’t go back on a promise he had made.
The White Tiger nudged him for a while, but seeing him remain unmoved, it finally gave up.
It snorted in discontent, and a soft Holy Light suddenly emanated from its body.
The light formed an invisible barrier, enveloping Bai Ye completely.
His wildly churning spiritual power was gently wrapped in this Holy Light and slowly quieted down.
After doing all this, the White Tiger’s form suddenly grew faint.
It looked up at Bai Ye, its golden beastly eyes filled with a mix of exhaustion, unwillingness, and a hint of aggrieved complaint.
Then, its form completely dissipated into the air.
Bai Ye stared at the spot where it had vanished and sighed softly.
Then, he got up, walked over to the medical kit on the side, opened it, and took out three High-level inhibitors.
He hadn’t planned on using these.
He had long since become immune to them. Even using three would only have an effect similar to a tranquilizer.
It would stabilize his spiritual power temporarily but would leave severe side effects.
But right now... He glanced at his still-surging spiritual power and thought about how the White Tiger had exhausted itself to help him, disappearing completely. It probably wouldn’t be able to coalesce its form for a while.
He twisted open an inhibitor and, without hesitation, jabbed it into his arm.
The cold liquid injected into his veins, bringing a slight stinging pain.
The second.
The third.
The wildly churning spiritual power was finally, forcibly suppressed under the dual effects of the Holy Light and the inhibitors.
Although a dark undercurrent still flowed in the depths of his spiritual landscape, he could at least hold on for a while longer.
"Luo Cheng."
Bai Ye spoke in a low voice. He knew Luo Cheng was waiting just outside the tent, not having gone far at all.
The moment he finished speaking, Luo Cheng lifted the flap and entered. Seeing that Bai Ye’s condition was more stable than before, he visibly relaxed.
"General..."
"Get ready. We’re returning to the Capital Star."
Luo Cheng was stunned for a moment, then nodded. "Yes, sir."
Bai Ye started walking toward the outside of the tent.
He lifted the flap, stepped out of the tent, and raised his head, his gaze involuntarily drifting in a certain direction.
That was the direction of the temporary encampment.
Luo Cheng followed his gaze and asked in a low voice, "General, should I send someone to protect Miss Yun?"
Bai Ye didn’t answer immediately.
After a few seconds, he finally spoke. "Just have them follow her covertly. Don’t interfere with her training."
Luo Cheng nodded. "Yes, General."
Bai Ye cast one last glance in that direction.
Then he withdrew his gaze and strode toward where the transport vehicle was parked.
...
Inside a tent, Qi Yao was still sitting behind the simple desk, with several documents spread out before him.
Yun Sheng stood opposite him, a look of exasperation on her face.
’I just got back to the camp and was immediately summoned here again. It seems Qi Yao is really anxious to know what Bai Ye called me over for.’
"I just received a message from the White War God’s side. They said they’ll investigate the White Tiger’s identity internally, that the matter is closed, and that you are not to mention him to anyone in the future."
"Yes, sir."
Yun Sheng verbally agreed, but she quietly sighed in relief.
’The White Tiger is Bai Ye’s own alias, after all. It’s not surprising that he would take care of it.’
"Also, the White War God has already departed for the Capital Star."
Yun Sheng froze, her eyes wide with astonishment.
’Bai Ye left so soon? With his spiritual landscape in that state, can he even handle it...?’
The flicker of worry had just risen when she forcefully suppressed it.
’It’s better that he’s gone anyway. It saves us from another awkward meeting.’
As these thoughts ran through her mind, Qi Yao looked at her, and something new entered his gaze.
"Yun Sheng, you are very lucky."
Yun Sheng’s heart skipped a beat.
’What does that mean?’
She raised her eyes to meet Qi Yao’s profound gaze but couldn’t read anything in them.
But Qi Yao just waved his hand. "Alright, you can go for now. And tell Guo Kai and Ma Yu to come here on your way out."
Yun Sheng suppressed her doubts, acknowledged his order, and turned to leave the tent.
The moment she lifted the tent flap, she couldn’t help but glance back one more time.
Qi Yao had already lowered his head and resumed reading the documents in his hands.
But Yun Sheng had a feeling that his reason for summoning Guo Kai and Ma Yu wasn’t so simple.
’Bai Ye told him to stop investigating the White Tiger’s identity. Is he really going to obey meekly?’
’Qi Yao... doesn’t seem like the type to give up so easily.’
’But then again...’
Yun Sheng looked away and headed for their tent.
’This is Bai Ye’s business. It has nothing to do with me anymore.’
’I just hope he cleans up his own mess and doesn’t cause any trouble for me.’
After summoning the men, Yun Sheng returned to her own tent.
Everyone else was out on missions. Li Wen and Cheng Nian were probably exhausted from before, so they didn’t have a mission and were still sleeping.
She tiptoed back to her own bunk and lay down.
The nerves that had been wound tight all day finally began to unwind.
Her eyelids grew heavier and heavier. The chaotic thoughts in her mind gradually blurred, and before she knew it, she had drifted off to sleep.
