Chapter 409 -249: Making Inquiries

Fang Yue didn’t stay at the Observatory for long; he knew he had more important things to do.

After learning some basic information about Wind Elemental Qi and Thunder Elemental Qi, he decided to set out and find these two types of Primordial Qi himself.

He first returned home to prepare some necessary supplies, then embarked on his journey to find the Primordial Qi.

‘People have seen strange wind and thunder phenomena in Fushan Prefecture on the southeast coast. It’s suspected that Wind Elemental Qi and Thunder Elemental Qi have appeared.’ Fang Yue recalled the news he had heard at the Observatory. His heart stirred, and he decided to head to Fushan Prefecture to investigate.

After several days of arduous travel, Fang Yue finally arrived at the Fushan Prefecture City.

The city was situated on the southeast coast, with a humid climate and a gentle sea breeze.

He didn’t rush to search for the Wind and Thunder Elemental Qi. Instead, he first started gathering information in the city to understand the local customs and any recent strange occurrences.

After all, he wasn’t about to casually use the Observatory’s intelligence network again this time.

Who knew if that group of people had truly been wiped out completely?

Fang Yue knew very well that although the Observatory’s intelligence network was extremely powerful, his last experience had made him wary of the system.

He wasn’t sure if there were still hidden enemies lurking in the shadows, so he decided to gather information personally.

~~~~~~~
“Have pity on us, please give us something to eat.” Two frail children were begging on the street, their clothes ragged and their eyes full of longing.
The two children were so emaciated from long-term starvation that it seemed a strong gust of wind could blow them over.
But even though the two were a pitiful sight, not many people were willing to stop and give them anything.
Most people chose to walk past coldly; some even wore expressions of disgust.
“Hey, you two kids over there, come here! Do you want to eat until you’re full? If you do, then follow me!”
Just then, a man with a cheeky grin suddenly walked over. He didn’t look very old, but his eyes held a hint of cunning.
He beckoned to the two children, signaling for them to follow him.
The two children exchanged a glance. Although they were hesitant, hunger drove them to follow him and see.
They followed the man through several small alleys to a secluded courtyard.
“We’re here. You two wait here, I’ll go get you something to eat,” the man said before walking into the house.
The two children waited obediently in the courtyard, hoping to finally have a full meal.
However, they were not met with food, but with several ferocious-looking brutes.
“Heh heh, little ones, if you want to eat, you have to work!” one of the brutes said with a sinister grin.
The two children immediately sensed something was wrong. They wanted to run, but they were surrounded by the brutes.
They struggled and cried out, but it was no use.
“You two worthless brats, quiet down, or you’ll be sorry!”
One of the brutes threatened viciously. They planned to sell the girl to a brothel and break the boy’s legs before throwing him out on the streets to beg.
“You… you’d better let us go! Or the Government Office will come for you!” The boy actually managed to break free from his restraints, shouting loudly to attract the attention of anyone nearby.
However, the area was remote, and with people in a panic during a disaster year, most were too busy looking out for themselves.
So, although people passed by from time to time, no one paid them any mind.
“You little brat, you dare threaten us? See if I don’t break your legs!” one of the brutes cursed, raising his fist to smash it down on the boy.
“Hold on!”
Just then, a cold voice suddenly rang out, stopping everyone in their tracks.
A young man had appeared at the courtyard entrance at some unknown point. He stood with his hands behind his back, his gaze carrying an imposing air.
This young man was none other than Fang Yue.
While gathering information in the city, he had happened to pass by and heard the children’s cries for help.
Fang Yue’s heart was moved, and he followed the sound, arriving just in time to witness this scene.
“Who are you? You dare stick your nose in our business?” a brute growled, glaring at Fang Yue threateningly.
“Just a passerby who doesn’t like seeing the strong bully the weak,” Fang Yue said coolly. “Let these two children go, and I might consider letting you off the hook.”
“Haha! Who do you think you are? You think you can meddle in our business all by yourself? Brothers, get him! Let’s teach him a lesson!”
The brute clearly didn’t take Fang Yue seriously, waving his companions forward to attack together.
A cold glint flashed in Fang Yue’s eyes. His figure blurred, and he appeared before the brutes like a phantom.
With a few dull THUDS,
the brutes were sent flying backward, landing heavily on the ground, unable to get back up.
“You… who in the world are you?” the brute stammered, looking at Fang Yue in terror. He never expected his opponent to be so powerful; he was clearly a Martial Dao master.
“I already told you. I’m just a passerby,” Fang Yue said coldly.
“Alright, alright, alright.”
How could these men dare to linger? They scrambled away and fled the courtyard, leaving only Fang Yue and the two children behind.
The two children looked at Fang Yue, their eyes filled with awe and gratitude. They never imagined this strange man would be so powerful, able to defeat those vicious brutes so easily.
“Mister, thank you for saving us!” the girl said in a small, trembling voice.
“You’re welcome. I only did what I should have,” Fang Yue said with a smile. He walked over to the two children and crouched down. “Where do you live? I’ll take you home.”
