Chapter 408: Chapter 248: Wind and Thunder (Part 2)

He was curious about who could make Wen Lan reject him so firmly. He wanted to see what was so special about this person.

Wen Lan didn’t notice Lin Hao following her. She arrived at the restaurant at the appointed time.

She pushed open the door to the private room and saw a young man already seated inside.

The man was dressed in a black martial arts uniform. His face was plain—the kind of face that would be hard to find again once lost in a crowd.

He sat there quietly, sipping his tea. His every move exuded a sense of calm and composure.

"Miss Wen, you’re here." Fang Yue saw Wen Lan come in and quickly rose to greet her.

His voice was peaceful and clear, conveying a sense of warmth and sincerity.

Wen Lan gave a slight nod in response. She walked over to the seat opposite Fang Yue and sat down, sighing to herself.

’A person like him isn’t bad at all,’ she thought. ’It’s a pity about his background.’

’Even if he was lucky enough to become an Inspector at the Observatory, his future Martial Arts Cultivation would surely be limited.’

’And to top it off, my own aunt seems to harbor some unusual feelings for this Fang Yue.’

’Under these circumstances, it was even more impossible for me to get involved with Fang Yue.’

"Miss Wen, please try the tea here," Fang Yue said with a smile as he personally poured her a cup.

Wen Lan accepted the cup and took a light sip. The tea was fragrant and had a rich, mellow taste.

She set down her teacup, looked at Fang Yue, and decided to state her position directly.

"Young Master Fang, I think there may be a misunderstanding."

Wen Lan began slowly, "This meeting wasn’t my idea; I came at someone else’s request. I think you’re a good person, and you’ll surely meet someone better in the future."

Fang Yue was taken aback for a moment, but he quickly understood what Wen Lan meant.

He wasn’t angry or disappointed. On the contrary, he found Wen Lan to be a very straightforward person. ’Good,’ he thought. ’This saves me from having to be the bad guy.’

The moment he saw it was Wen Lan, Fang Yue had realized things would probably go smoothly. And sure enough, he’d just been friend-zoned.

"I understand," Fang Yue nodded.

"I understand what you mean, Miss Wen. Since you’ve already made your decision, I can rest easy."

Fang Yue said with a smile, his tone perfectly calm, as if he didn’t care about the outcome of this matchmaking meeting at all.

Wen Lan looked at Fang Yue in surprise. She hadn’t expected him to be so open-minded about it.

’It seems he has some self-awareness after all,’ she mused. ’That saves me the trouble of explaining further.’

The surprise in Wen Lan’s heart was fleeting, and she quickly regained her composure.

Although Fang Yue’s reaction had been unexpected, it didn’t mean she would change her mind.

After all, marriage was a serious matter, not a game. She couldn’t make a rash decision just because he was being gracious for a moment.

She took a light sip of tea, then set down her cup and looked at Fang Yue.

"In that case, Young Master Fang, I’ll be leaving now." Wen Lan gave a faint smile, showing no intention of staying any longer.

With that, she stood up, turned, and left.

’Well, now I have something to report to my mother,’ Fang Yue thought. ’I can’t believe it was her. It seems I’m quite fated to run into this woman.’

Fang Yue shook his head. Wen Lan exuded the air of a girl from a Noble Family, which was completely at odds with him. They were not a good match.

There was no way the two of them could end up together. Even though they’d had a few similar chances, Fang Yue wouldn’t have agreed even if she had.

Fang Yue lifted his teacup, took a light sip, and reflected inwardly.

He knew the gap between him and Wen Lan wasn’t just about identity and status; it was also about their different mindsets and ways of life.

He came from a humble background and knew the hardships of life all too well. Wen Lan, on the other hand, was a girl from a Noble Family, pampered since childhood. Her understanding of life was completely different from his.

If two people like them were to force themselves together, they would only end up tormenting each other. There would be no true happiness.

Besides, Fang Yue had only come to complete a task from the very beginning. He held no real hopes for this matchmaking meeting.

Fang Yue stood up, settled the bill, and left the restaurant.

He walked along the bustling street, yet his heart was tranquil.

He knew his life wouldn’t change because of this matchmaking meeting.

He would continue to walk firmly toward the future at his own pace.

’Next, I should prepare to find the two remaining types of Primordial Qi and then break through to the next realm.’

Fang Yue began to plan his next steps.

He would go back to the Observatory to look up some information, identify his targets, and complete his breakthrough without delay.

"Brother, a moment of your time!"

Just as he was about to reach home, a voice interrupted Fang Yue’s thoughts.

Fang Yue stopped and looked up to see a young master dressed in brocade robes, holding a folding fan, and smiling at him.

Fang Yue didn’t recognize the man, but from his clothes and bearing, he was clearly the scion of some Noble Family.

Fang Yue frowned slightly, confused. He didn’t recall knowing such a person and had no idea what he wanted.

"And you are?" Fang Yue asked.

"My name is Lin Hao. A pleasure to meet you, Fang," the young man in brocade said with a smile, fanning himself with his folding fan.

"Lin Hao?" Fang Yue was taken aback. The name wasn’t familiar, but the man had called him by his name, which was unexpected.

"No need to be confused, Fang. I saw you and Miss Wen Lan at the restaurant earlier," Lin Hao explained.

"Oh, I see." It dawned on Fang Yue that this Lin Hao must have noticed him back at the restaurant.

However, he wasn’t bothered by this and simply asked, "Is there something I can help you with, Lin?"

"Nothing in particular. I simply saw that you have an extraordinary bearing, Fang, and wanted to make your acquaintance," Lin Hao said with a smile.

Fang Yue frowned slightly, not believing a word of it. ’No one is this friendly for no reason,’ he thought. ’He must be up to something.’

They were strangers. For this man to suddenly seek him out, he definitely had an ulterior motive.

Still, Fang Yue wasn’t afraid of him. He simply became more cautious.

"You praise me too much, Lin. I’m just an ordinary person," Fang Yue said modestly.

"You’re too humble, Fang. With your talent and strength, you’re bound to make a name for yourself one day," Lin Hao flattered.

Fang Yue just smiled without responding. He knew the compliments were just empty pleasantries and not to be trusted.

"By the way, do you live around here too, Fang?" Lin Hao asked suddenly.

"I do," Fang Yue nodded.

"That’s wonderful! My home is just nearby. Why don’t you come over for a visit, Fang?" Lin Hao invited warmly.

"Thank you, but no. I still have matters to attend to, so I won’t impose," Fang Yue politely declined.

He didn’t want to get too involved with the man. After all, they were strangers.

"What a shame. But no matter, I’ll invite you to be my guest some other time, Fang." Although Lin Hao was disappointed, he didn’t let it show.

He thought to himself, ’This guy is quite vigilant. It seems I’ll have to be more clever if I want to deal with him.’

He had no intention of giving up, however. He decided to take his time.

Fang Yue was unaware of Lin Hao’s thoughts. He just continued walking home.

After returning home, he began to prepare his next steps.

He knew he didn’t have much time, so he had to find the two remaining types of Primordial Qi as quickly as possible and break through to the next realm.

Only then would he be better equipped to face the challenges ahead.

Fang Yue decided to first go to the Observatory to consult some records and learn more details about Wind Elemental Qi and Thunder Elemental Qi.

He believed that with enough information, he would be able to find these two types of Primordial Qi much more quickly.

Early the next morning, Fang Yue arrived at the Observatory.

He presented his Inspector Token to the gate guards and was promptly granted entry into the Observatory.

Upon arriving at the Library Pavilion, Fang Yue began his search in earnest.

He knew that Wind Elemental Qi and Thunder Elemental Qi were both extremely rare, so there wouldn’t be much information on them.

However, he believed that if he searched carefully enough, he was bound to find something useful.

After a great deal of effort, Fang Yue finally found some records on Wind Elemental Qi and Thunder Elemental Qi.

There wasn’t much, but for Fang Yue, it was enough.

He read the materials carefully, and a plan began to form in his mind.
