Chapter 391: Chapter 240: Framing

Yun Qing seemed a little surprised, but she quickly composed herself. She asked softly, "It’s so late. What brings you here?"

The Black Shadow didn’t answer directly. Instead, he slipped into the room and shut the door behind him.

Fang Yue saw all of this unfold, and he was secretly glad he hadn’t acted rashly.

He knew the Black Shadow’s appearance had to be related to the secret letter Yun Qing had received.

To avoid tipping them off, Fang Yue didn’t try to get closer to the room, instead continuing to watch quietly from the shadows.

Inside the room, Yun Qing and the Black Shadow sat facing each other. Their voices were so low that Fang Yue couldn’t make out what they were saying.

He could only see their expressions and gestures, trying to infer the topic of their conversation.

Yun Qing’s expression was grave. She occasionally furrowed her brow, seemingly lost in thought.

The Black Shadow, on the other hand, wore a cold expression. His gaze remained fixed on Yun Qing, as if awaiting her reply.

Fang Yue was filled with doubt and curiosity.

He wanted to know who this Black Shadow was and why he would visit Yun Qing in the dead of night.

Although he couldn’t hear their conversation, Fang Yue could feel the tension in the air.

The changes in Yun Qing’s expression only confirmed for Fang Yue how important this matter was.

He resolved then and there to uncover the truth, no matter what.

Time trickled by, and Fang Yue’s patience began to wear thin.

’I can’t just keep waiting like this. I have to find a way to get closer and hear what they’re saying.’

Just then, Yun Qing suddenly stood up, a look of resolve on her face. She seemed to have made a decision, which only piqued Fang Yue’s curiosity further.

The Black Shadow stood up as well, his gaze as cold as ever.

He gave Yun Qing one last look, then turned and departed.

Seeing this, Fang Yue immediately followed him.

"Just as I expected. No one is without curiosity, so the fish has taken the bait." Yun Qing gazed in the direction the Black Shadow had gone, a faint smile playing on her lips.

She knew Fang Yue would follow. This was precisely the outcome she had hoped for.

Fang Yue stealthily followed the Black Shadow through the village’s narrow alleys and into a dense forest. ℯℯ𝑙.

The Black Shadow moved quickly, but Fang Yue, relying on his superb Lightweight Skill, kept close behind.

The forest was dim, and Fang Yue could only navigate by the faint moonlight and the trail left by the Black Shadow.

’Who is this Black Shadow? Why would he visit Yun Qing in the dead of night?’

Finally, the Black Shadow stopped outside the main gate of the Observatory in Ganzhou Prefecture. He glanced around before entering.

’Why would he come here? Could it be that someone in the Observatory is actually targeting me?’

Fang Yue watched the Black Shadow disappear behind the Observatory’s gates. He frowned, his confusion growing.

’If the Black Shadow is really from the Observatory, then his reason for meeting with Yun Qing is all the more intriguing.’

But he was just a lowly Inspector for the Observatory, an insignificant pawn in the grand scheme of the organization.

’Why would someone in the Observatory want to target me?’

Fang Yue was thoroughly perplexed. He knew he couldn’t just give up the investigation. The Black Shadow must have some ulterior motive for entering the Observatory, and it was likely connected to his own identity and the secret letter Yun Qing had received.

He decided not to alert anyone in the Observatory just yet. Instead, he would sneak inside and see if he could find any trace of the Black Shadow or overhear any useful information.

Fang Yue circled the Observatory’s outer wall until he found a relatively secluded corner.

He scaled the high wall with ease and slipped into the Observatory grounds.

He hid in a dark corner, observing his surroundings.

Security inside the Observatory was tight. Patrols of soldiers marched by at regular intervals.

’I have to be careful not to get caught.’

Fang Yue took a deep breath to steady his nerves.

He scanned his surroundings, searching for the best place to lie in wait.

He found a corner completely enveloped in shadow—a blind spot in the guards’ patrol route.

He moved there silently, pressing himself tightly against the wall to ensure he remained unseen.

He slipped past obstacles and dodged patrolling guards, gradually drawing closer to the Observatory’s core area.

Suddenly, he heard the faint sound of voices.

He followed the sound and discovered a secret room, hidden in the shadows.

"Why do you think the higher-ups are going to such lengths over a mere Qi Sensing Martial Master? He’s just an Observatory Inspector. It seems a bit much for us to be this cautious. Wouldn’t it be easier to just get rid of him? Saves us a lot of trouble."

A jolt went through Fang Yue. The voices from the secret room... they were people from inside the Observatory, and they were talking about him.

This confirmed his suspicions. The Black Shadow was connected to the Observatory, and someone within the organization was indeed targeting him.

But what he couldn’t understand was why the Observatory would go to such great lengths to deal with a minor figure like him—a mere Qi Sensing Martial Master and an Observatory Inspector.

Filled with questions and curiosity, his resolve to uncover the truth only hardened.

Fang Yue pressed himself against the wall and crept closer to the secret room, hoping to overhear more of the conversation.

"Our job is to follow orders from the higher-ups, not to ask so many questions. In any case, this Fang Yue can’t be allowed to live. And it has to be done cleanly, so no suspicion falls on us."
