Chapter 390: Chapter 239: Rendezvous (2)
But Yun Qing’s expression was firm, showing no sign of deceit.
"Miss Yun, can you tell me who that person was?" Fang Yue asked.
Hearing Fang Yue’s question, Yun Qing shook her head gently and said, "I’m sorry, Young Master Fang, but I don’t know who he was either. He was dressed in black and wore a mask, so I couldn’t see his face. The letter simply mentioned your name and revealed no other information."
At her words, Fang Yue’s heart grew even more suspicious. He looked at Yun Qing and asked in a low voice, "Miss Yun, can you tell me the letter’s exact contents? We might be able to find some clues there."
Yun Qing nodded. Recalling the contents of the letter, she said slowly, "It said, ’To resolve the doubts in your heart, go to Gongzhou Prefecture. The critical moment is at hand; proceed with caution.’ That was all. It was brief and mysterious, impossible to make sense of."
Fang Yue’s brow furrowed as he listened, and ripples of unease spread through his mind.
’Just as I thought. No clues at all.’
But even without any clues, Fang Yue couldn’t help but frown. It was obvious someone else was watching her.
Fang Yue had a feeling that the person who had guided Yun Qing was not in league with Zhou Tiande.
’Then who could it be?’
’The Observatory? The Blood Dragon Platform?’
The thoughts churned in Fang Yue’s mind, but he let none of it show on his face.
’Both of those factions are incredibly mysterious and powerful forces in the Jianghu,’ Fang Yue mused. ’Either one could be privy to secrets unknown to the world.’
"Miss Yun, have you ever had any dealings with the Observatory or the Blood Dragon Platform?" Fang Yue asked, testing the waters.
Yun Qing was taken aback for a moment, then shook her head. "I’ve never had any contact with either of those factions. Young Master Fang, why do you suddenly bring them up?"
Fang Yue considered this for a moment before shaking his head. "It’s nothing."
Fang Yue didn’t reveal too much to Yun Qing. These were just his speculations, after all, with no concrete evidence. He didn’t want to drag her into a deeper vortex.
"Miss Yun, now that you’ve found me, what do you plan to do next?" Fang Yue asked, changing the subject.
Yun Qing thought for a moment, then shook her head and said, "To be honest, Young Master Fang, I don’t really know."
In truth, Yun Qing wanted to investigate her own origins, but the mysterious person had only told her to find Fang Yue in Gongzhou Prefecture City.
He hadn’t told her anything else, so Yun Qing now felt lost and confused, unsure of what to do next.
Fang Yue looked at Yun Qing’s lost expression. ’She doesn’t seem to be lying,’ he thought. But with no further clues, he decided to take his leave.
’Since that person had Yun Qing come here, they must have another move planned.’
"In that case, I’ll take my leave. Let me know if you think of anything else."
As he spoke, Fang Yue stood up to leave. A look of deep contemplation crossed his face as he turned.
He knew Yun Qing’s appearance was no coincidence; a deeper secret had to be lurking behind it all.
"Young Master Fang, please wait," Yun Qing suddenly called out, a hint of urgency in her voice.
Fang Yue stopped and turned to look at her, a hint of confusion in his eyes.
Yun Qing took a deep breath, seemingly having made a decision. She walked up to Fang Yue, looked him squarely in the eye, and said slowly, "Young Master Fang, I know I can’t force you to stay, but I’d like to ask you to promise me one thing."
Fang Yue’s brow furrowed slightly. Seeing the earnest look in her eyes, he knew that whatever she was about to say was important.
"If you already know it’s an imposition, it’s better not to ask," Fang Yue said in a low voice. Then, he turned and walked away.
Watching Fang Yue’s determined back as he walked away, Yun Qing felt an inexplicable sense of loss and helplessness wash over her.
She knew that approaching Fang Yue had been presumptuous and abrupt, especially since the matter concerned her own origins.
She sighed softly but didn’t try to go after him.
Yun Qing understood that everyone had their own choices and principles. Since Fang Yue had made his decision, it would be useless for her to press the matter.
By now, the crowd in the inn had started whispering amongst themselves, discussing the scene that had just unfolded.
Yun Qing was in no mood to pay them any mind. She turned, returned to her room, and prepared to sort through her thoughts.
’Who exactly is this Yun Qing? Why would someone guide her to me? Has my identity been exposed?’ Fang Yue wondered.
He knew his current situation was murky; an unseen hand seemed to be manipulating everything from behind the scenes. Fang Yue resolved to investigate the matter covertly and see if he could find any useful clues.
「Night fell, and the lanterns began to glow.」
After wandering around the city for a while, Fang Yue returned to his residence. He didn’t rush to cultivate or rest. Instead, he sat at his desk, quietly contemplating his next move.
He knew that the problem he faced wasn’t just about Yun Qing. It could very well involve the Great Wei Dynasty and even certain conflicts between the Human and Demon Races.
Fang Yue had to proceed with caution, lest he get drawn in so deep he couldn’t pull himself out.
Just as Fang Yue was lost in thought, a faint sound suddenly came from outside his window.
Instantly on alert, he shot to his feet and went to the window to investigate.
A Black Shadow flashed past the window, moving so quickly that it vanished into the night in the blink of an eye.
Fang Yue frowned, an inexplicable sense of alarm rising within him.
’Was I followed?’
Fang Yue wondered. He didn’t rush out in pursuit but remained in his room, observing his surroundings for any sign of movement.
After a moment, once Fang Yue was sure there was nothing unusual outside, he slowly breathed a sigh of relief.
He knew his movements might already be known to certain people. From now on, he would have to be even more careful.
So, Fang Yue decided to leave his residence for the time being and search the city for potential clues.
He believed that if he could find any trace related to Yun Qing and the secret letter, he would surely be able to unravel this entire mystery.
The night was as black as ink. Fang Yue slipped out of his residence, melting into the boundless darkness of Gongzhou Prefecture City. His steps were light yet steady, his gaze like a torch as he scanned the darkness for any suspicious signs.
The city’s streets were a complex labyrinth. Fang Yue wove through narrow alleys, at times walking swiftly, at others pausing to observe. His senses were exceptionally sharp in the darkness, catching every subtle sound and movement.
Soon, he arrived at Yun Qing’s residence.
Fang Yue planned to stake the place out and see who, if anyone, made contact with her.
Fang Yue waited quietly near Yun Qing’s residence, concealed in the shadows to ensure he wouldn’t be easily discovered.
His gaze was as sharp as a hawk’s, sweeping over every surrounding corner.
The night grew deeper. The streets were nearly empty, and only the occasional clapper of the night watchman broke the silence.
Fang Yue waited patiently. He knew that unraveling this mystery would require immense patience and perseverance.
The seconds and minutes ticked by, but Fang Yue remained on high alert.
Suddenly, he detected a faint stir. It seemed someone was stealthily approaching Yun Qing’s residence.
Fang Yue tensed, immediately focusing his attention and preparing to handle any sudden developments.
A Black Shadow flickered in the darkness. Its movements were light and swift, clearly meant to avoid detection.
Fang Yue didn’t act rashly, instead silently observing the Black Shadow’s movements.
He wanted to know who this person was and what their purpose was for coming here.
The Black Shadow stopped in front of Yun Qing’s residence, apparently observing something.
’Perhaps this person is here to meet with Yun Qing.’
He crept closer, trying to overhear their conversation.
However, the Black Shadow didn’t seem to enter Yun Qing’s residence. Instead, after lingering outside the door for a moment, it turned and left.
Fang Yue frowned, a strange sense of doubt rising within him.
He didn’t rush to follow, instead continuing his watch over Yun Qing’s residence from his hiding spot.
He knew that if this Black Shadow was truly here to meet with Yun Qing, it would surely return.
Sure enough, before long, the Black Shadow reappeared.
This time, it didn’t linger, but knocked directly on Yun Qing’s door.
His interest piqued, Fang Yue immediately pressed himself against the wall, trying to overhear their conversation.
The door soon opened, and Yun Qing’s voice drifted out. "Who is it?"
"It’s me," the Black Shadow replied in a low voice.
