Chapter 305: Chapter 202: Recuperating

Swept along by the current, Fang Yue gasped for breath. ’That old bastard is too strong! He must have Transformed using a strength-type Demon Beast, sacrificing complex abilities for pure power.’

He knew he had encountered a true powerhouse.

Not only was his Martial Arts Cultivation exceptional, but his physical defenses were even tougher, and he wielded immense power.

Transformation was truly on another level. Shapeshifting Martial Artists were already starting to metamorphose into something beyond human. Wielding the power of a Demon Beast in a human body... it was terrifying!

’Looks like this world is full of hidden masters after all. I can’t get careless just because I’ve gotten stronger.’

Fang Yue muttered to himself. If he had just jumped into the river and fled immediately, Wu Shengkui would never have been able to catch him, and he wouldn’t have landed himself in such a perilous spot.

’First, I need to find a quiet place to recover. If I let these injuries linger, they might cause lasting complications, and that’ll be trouble for my cultivation down the line.’

With this in mind, Fang Yue began to work his way toward the eastern riverbank.

「Meanwhile.」

In Sanshui County Town, a great battle erupted between the masters of the Great Wei Dynasty and those on Prince Wucheng’s side.

The aftershocks of their clash made the very earth shake and the mountains tremble, as if it were the apocalypse.

The soldiers on both sides were thrown into chaos and retreated in droves.

The chaotic battle lasted for a full hour.

In the end, the Great Wei Dynasty’s forces were defeated and fled in disarray.

Prince Wucheng himself had appeared, decisively crushing the invading enemy. The Great Wei army was completely routed and forced to flee in disarray.

Of course, Prince Wucheng didn’t pursue them across the great river. After all, the enemy’s numbers were great and their forces were not weak; a reckless pursuit would have been unwise.

If the Great Wei masters arrayed themselves in a battle formation, even someone as powerful as Prince Wucheng could be trapped and risk death.

Thus, Prince Wucheng did not give chase, allowing the Great Wei soldiers to depart.

Having repelled the invading Great Wei masters, Wu Shengkui found himself with a free moment and naturally resumed his pursuit of Fang Yue.

「One hour later.」

Wu Shengkui hovered above the vast expanse of the great river. By the time he arrived, his connection to Fang Yue had completely vanished.

"Damn kid’s fast! He actually got away!"

Wu Shengkui’s expression was grim as he stared out at the churning river, his eyes flashing with resentment and fury.

’To think that a mere Qi Sensing Martial Master, even a somewhat special one, would be a plaything in my hands, someone I could kill at will. I never thought the little bastard would actually get away.’

"But he’s injured. He can’t have gotten far," Wu Shengkui sneered. "He’ll fall into my hands sooner or later. I hope he doesn’t disappoint me."

He knew Fang Yue was grievously wounded and couldn’t move fast. It was only a matter of time before he caught him.

Although he couldn’t enter Guangfeng Prefecture himself, the Blood Dragon Platform had a significant presence there. As a high-ranking member of the Rebel Army, he naturally had the authority to command its agents.

All he had to do was order the Blood Dragon Platform in Guangfeng Prefecture to hunt the man down.

Meanwhile, Fang Yue was fleeing eastward with every ounce of his strength. It took him a full four days and four nights to finally struggle free of the great river’s currents.

He was covered in blood, his energy faint, and he was utterly exhausted.

’Thank goodness... I made it out alive!’

Fang Yue breathed a sigh of relief and wiped the sweat from his brow. The next moment, his vision went black, and he collapsed into unconsciousness.

~~~~~~
「Dawn.」
As the sky began to lighten, Fang Yue slowly awoke.
He opened his eyes and froze.
He was in an unfamiliar place. Houses stood in neat rows, smoke curling from their rooftops, creating a quaint, rustic scene.
’Where is this?’
Fang Yue was astonished. He remembered fleeing for his life, jumping into the great river, and finally, after a great struggle, making it across into Guangfeng Prefecture. The moment he let his guard down, he had passed out.
’So how did I end up here?’
’Did I pass out after jumping in the river and get saved by some kind old man or a beautiful, good-hearted village girl?’ Fang Yue mused. It was a classic novel trope.
’The protagonist faces danger, is gravely injured, falls unconscious, and is inevitably taken home by a stranger.’
’If not a benevolent-looking old man, then a beautiful farm girl.’
With that thought, he struggled to sit up.
Just then, a benevolent-looking old man walked in. "Ah, good, you’re awake. Waking up means your life is saved."
The old man had an ordinary face and was dressed in simple clothes, and he carried a basket in his hand.
"Sir, thank you for saving me. Where is this?" Fang Yue asked, confused.
"My name is Li San, and this is Li Family Village."
The old man smiled. "You can rest easy. There are no bad people here, and nothing bad happens. The bed you’re lying in is in my granddaughter’s room. She married and moved to town, so it was empty."
"Oh, right. You were unconscious for three days. During that time, I had a doctor see you, which cost a total of fifteen taels of silver. And since you’ve stayed here for three days, let’s call that five taels of silver. So that’s twenty taels of silver in total."
Li San’s very next sentence was to settle the bill with Fang Yue.
Fang Yue couldn’t help but scoff internally. ’So all that stuff in the novels from my past life was a complete lie.’
’In the real world, everyone keeps score.’
Then again, it was only normal.
’Under the rule of the Great Wei Dynasty, life for the common folk was incredibly harsh. The fact that a stranger was willing to take him in at all was a rare kindness in itself. Of course he would want compensation.’
"That’s only right," Fang Yue said, taking out his money pouch and handing it over. "Please, sir, accept this."
Li San glanced at the bulging pouch, and a look of delight spread across his face. He’d made a huge profit on this deal. In reality, he hadn’t hired any doctor; he had treated the young man himself using folk remedies and herbs he’d gathered.
