Chapter 716: Chapter 302: Message from the Undead, Immortal Slaying

It seemed a special power was even protecting them.

Venerable Changxu recalled the accounts in the records. Only those recognized by the Immortal King’s Tomb could obtain its Immortal Fate. No matter what, the current events led Venerable Changxu and the other experts from the Cyan Cloud Sect to a single conclusion: Chu Lingguang and Li Qiushui had already been acknowledged by the Immortal King’s Tomb.

To obtain the Immortal Fate, they had to capture Chu Lingguang and Li Qiushui. If the pair were allowed to refine the Immortal Fate and gain supreme power, they would be the ones to die.

Besides, Chu Lingguang and Li Qiushui were both from the Profound Celestial Sect, making them enemies of the Cyan Cloud Sect. If the Profound Celestial Sect grew powerful enough to absorb the Cyan Cloud Sect, they certainly wouldn’t let them off the hook.

"Alright."

At this thought, the white-robed elder cast aside all other concerns and swiftly threw two Talismans.

He then formed two peculiar Techniques with his hands, stirred the Spiritual Power around him, and thrust his palms forward. It was as if he were injecting a unique Array into Venerable Changxu’s body, enabling him to resist the oppressive Restriction Array within the Immortal King’s Tomb and allowing him to fly.

He shot out from the plaza, hurtling toward Chu Lingguang and Li Qiushui, who were inside the exit passage.

HUM!

The vibration returned.

Empowered by that special Talisman Array, Venerable Changxu flew up from the ground, soared over the tile wall, and entered the plaza.

He wanted to fly across the plaza toward the exit, but the restriction there was simply too powerful. Even Chu Lingguang and Li Qiushui, who were supposedly unaffected, felt each step weighed a thousand pounds.

Although Venerable Changxu possessed boundless Magical Power and was bolstered by the Array, he couldn’t simply ignore the restriction in the Immortal King’s Tomb and fly straight across the plaza.

Furthermore, the moment he landed in the plaza, all the surrounding stone statues charged him.

Some of the statues charged across the plaza on tall warhorses, some rode the wind using Sword Control, and some even fired sneak attacks from behind.

It seemed their goal wasn’t merely to protect Chu Lingguang and Li Qiushui, but to prevent anyone from leaving the Immortal King’s Tomb as they pleased.

Especially someone like Venerable Changxu.

SWISH SWISH SWISH!

Venerable Changxu was beset on all sides.

But with his Golden Core Realm strength, the stone statues in the plaza couldn’t completely block his path.

THUD!

He was kicked by the stone statue on the tall warhorse.

The tiles sliding down from the palace roof came at him like a barrage of strange, rippling fragments.

He parried them one after another.

THUD!

The statue on the warhorse seized the opportunity to charge, thrusting its Stone Spear at Venerable Changxu, who swung his sword to defend.

But he failed to block the warhorse’s kick and was struck again, sending him flying almost out of the plaza.

The tiles swept toward Venerable Changxu like a school of fish.

Spitting blood, Venerable Changxu threw several more Talismans. His body scrambled up from the plaza floor and shot toward the exit.

His next move was astonishing.

The plaza was covered by a Restriction Array, and even for Chu Lingguang and Li Qiushui, who were mostly unaffected, each step felt like it weighed a thousand pounds.

Venerable Changxu, who was receiving the full "attention" of the Restriction Array, had been kicked to the ground. Getting up should not have been easy. Yet he somehow managed to launch himself into the air and fly toward the exit.

This showed just how high-grade those Talismans were.

And just how much Spiritual Power he had consumed.

If he hadn’t been driven into a corner by the fear that Chu Lingguang and Li Qiushui would refine the Immortal Fate, he might not have risked so much. As his body launched from the plaza, he coughed up blood continuously while still in mid-air.

Seeing the Stone Spear thrown by a statue, he defended with all his might but still couldn’t block it completely.

The Stone Spear shattered his Spiritual Power defenses. Although his Flying Sword managed to cut it in two, the immense force of the impact drove his own sword back, slamming it violently into his chest.

CRACK!

Venerable Changxu’s body crashed into the exit tunnel.

He couldn’t get up right away.

He had been assaulted with the full might of the stone statues while crossing the plaza.

His Spiritual Power was severely depleted.

Even his Golden Core was cracking.

At that moment, it seemed as if anyone could have walked up and stomped him to death.

But his body twitched, and he still managed to struggle to his feet. He gripped his longsword and ran toward the exit.

Despite his grave injuries, his mind was still fixed on the Immortal Fate.

Inside the exit tunnel, Chu Lingguang and Li Qiushui had no idea what had just happened behind them. Staring into the bottomless tunnel, they felt a sense of deja vu, as if they were back in the black hole.

It was just like when they were fleeing from the Nine-headed Bird’s pursuit.

Familiar scenes flashed before their eyes.

When they had first entered the black hole, a bloody light had erupted from its depths. Now, a golden light flickered before them.

They didn’t know if it was the exit.

They only knew that Venerable Changxu and his group had entered through this very tunnel.

They could only extend their Spiritual Sense ahead, hoping to reach the end and finally escape the Immortal King’s Tomb and the Stone Forest. ’As for the Immortal Fate here,’ they thought, ’let someone else who’s strong enough and not afraid to die come and get it!’

SWOOSH!

Suddenly, the sound of whistling air came from behind them.

The color drained from Chu Lingguang and Li Qiushui’s faces.

The two of them quickly blasted a wave of Spiritual Power behind them.

A flash of sword light emerged from the darkness, shattering their Spiritual Power wave and continuing toward their vital points.

CLANG!

Without hesitation, Li Qiushui quickly made a Thrust with her sword.

She tried to block the flash of sword light.

With a loud BANG, her Flying Sword nearly shattered, and she was sent flying backward.

The sword light continued unabated toward Chu Lingguang.

"Dodge!"

Li Qiushui cried out.

WHOOSH!

Chu Lingguang didn’t dodge.

It wasn’t that he didn’t want to.

He couldn’t.

His Immortal Slaying Sword Technique had reached Perfection. All the information related to this Sword Technique was now completely branded into his muscles, integrated into his Star System and even his Sea of Consciousness.

With danger upon him,

Chu Lingguang swung his sword on pure instinct.

An even more blinding flash of sword light appeared in the tunnel.

It collided head-on with the incoming attack.

The two beams of sword light met and parted in an instant.

Chu Lingguang stumbled back three steps.

Venerable Changxu, who had just charged out, felt a tightness in his chest. His breathing was ragged and his heart was filled with dread. The Flying Sword under his control wavered unsteadily, hovering six meters in front of Chu Lingguang.

’That kid’s sword strike... it didn’t look like a Sword Technique from the Profound Celestial Sect.’

’Even though I’m gravely injured, I almost couldn’t block that.’

Venerable Changxu cried out internally.

His Spiritual Power washed over Chu Lingguang and Li Qiushui.

Chu Lingguang stepped in front of Li Qiushui, watching Venerable Changxu warily. He shuddered at the thought that his opponent was a Golden Core Realm cultivator.

He believed he had only blocked the attack because the man had held back. He didn’t think for a second that his own strength was enough to parry the blow.

Even though the man was now covered in blood.

His breathing was ragged, a clear sign of severe injury, yet Chu Lingguang didn’t dare think he could challenge him. After all, a starved camel is still bigger than a horse.

In the eyes of Qi Refining and Foundation Establishment cultivators, a Golden Core expert was an undisputed Great Power.

Even with his weakened aura, he was not someone they could afford to cross.

"Senior, we have no quarrel with you. We ask that you show mercy."

Chu Lingguang pleaded.

"We were being chased by the Nine-headed Bird and accidentally passed through the Stone Forest. We don’t even know how we ended up in this Immortal King’s Tomb. We are unaware of anything you have done here. Please, Senior, spare us."

Li Qiushui got to her feet and bowed hastily.

She didn’t utter a single word of complaint.

Fully aware of the man’s identity and power, she put on an obedient and harmless expression.

"I can spare you, but you must hand over the Immortal Fate."

Venerable Changxu sneered.

’Chu Lingguang and Li Qiushui’s reaction is only natural,’ he thought. ’After all, my strength and status speak for themselves. As long as they aren’t complete fools, they’ll know what to do. Only an idiot would try to provoke me.’

"We didn’t receive any Immortal Fate."

Chu Lingguang said, shaking his head.

"You dare to deceive me? Believe me, I can make you wish you were dead."

Venerable Changxu said harshly.

"Senior, we truly didn’t receive any Immortal Fate. We can swear it to the heavens."

Li Qiushui said earnestly.

"You must be tired of living."

How could Venerable Changxu believe them? Everything that had just happened proved the Immortal Fate was on either Chu Lingguang or Li Qiushui. Otherwise, how could they have been protected by the power within the Immortal King’s Tomb?

To intimidate them into submission, Venerable Changxu urged his Flying Sword to drift slowly toward them. He forced his ragged breathing to steady, projecting a stronger aura than he actually possessed.

He was preparing to catch them off guard and kill them.

Chu Lingguang and Li Qiushui backed away, their bodies tense with nervousness.

’Don’t be fooled by him. He’s a spent force. If he tries to forcibly channel his Spiritual Power, his Golden Core will shatter.’

But just then, a voice echoed in Chu Lingguang’s mind. The Inner Nascent Soul Ghosts of the Immortal King’s Tomb seemed to be speaking to him.
