Alex let his father and brother-in-law lead him.

He followed behind, with Sunflare walking alongside him, as they all made their way down the white steps outside the Sky God’s Palace toward the base, where the teleportation formation was located. Once there were enough people to teleport to the city of their choice, they were sent away.

The city they arrived at was in the southeast, known simply as Lake City. It was a city established beside a large lake, only the lake was no longer there, leaving behind a dry lakebed that had grown into a forested area. The lake was said to have been destroyed many thousands of years ago during a fight between two powerful cultivators, but whether that was the truth or not, nobody knew.

Alex walked down from the teleportation formation beside his father and looked around.

"Where to now?"

Graham looked around. "We’ll have to ask around to find out where the fighting arena is in this city," he said.

"Let me find out." Long Huan moved on ahead, and the rest slowly followed behind.

It wasn’t long before they had a destination about half an hour’s walk away, and they made their way toward it.

Graham talked more than usual this time around, speaking about how much he had trained. He had tried really hard during his years of cultivation to reach the Immortal realm, and during that time, he had finished the fruit from the Tree of Life and consumed all the elixir that had been given to him as well.

His power had grown much more as a result, making him certain that he would do much better than before.

Alex was quite happy to see how much his father liked this, at least.

Sunflare walked beside him for a moment and leaned down. "I don’t mean to alarm you, but you have someone following you."

Alex raised an eyebrow for a moment, immediately turning around to see who it might be. His eyes flashed a deep purple color, turning people into auras within his vision. Through it, he could see a particularly powerful red and yellow aura that was struggling to keep itself contained.

The colors vanished from Alex’s vision, leaving him with just the person.

The person looked at him directly, having realized that they had been found.

Alex waited for them to come forward.

The follower was a woman wearing a bright red and yellow robe, with her hair tied in a bun and fixed by a hairclip shaped like a tongue of fire. Her eyes were bright red as well, making her look quite exotic, if nothing else.

Alex sensed her cultivation base, which was easily in the Divine Domain realm, though not very high. She had only broken through to that realm relatively recently, based on his senses, though that could mean a few years or a few thousand years. There was no way of knowing.

"Are you one of the Fire God’s subordinates?" Alex asked the woman.

The woman sneered. "Speak with more respect, junior. You act as if you do not know who I am."

Alex blinked for a second. "I do not. Should I?"

The woman looked positively offended by his words. "I am Blazelight, the Fire Sage. You should know who I am."

Alex couldn’t hide the look of surprise from his face upon hearing her words, which caused the woman to have a smug look on her face. He was more surprised that the Fire God had a Fire Sage tailing him than at her actual identity, but Alex saw no reason to explain that.

"Where are you going?" Blazelight asked. "You’d better not be thinking of leaving this realm."

"Oh? I was on my way to do exactly that," Alex said. "Are you going to stop me, by any chance?"

The woman didn’t respond to his obvious lie and simply waited for an actual answer.

Alex noticed the strange and awkward, maybe even worried, looks his father and brother-in-law held, so he decided to end this right away.

"You are free to follow me however much you want, senior. Just... stay out of our way, please."

The woman stood with her eyes narrowed for a few seconds before nodding. "I have no intention of doing anything other than making sure you don’t leave. I won’t tarnish the name of my God by doing anything untoward before the day of the duel."

That was really all Alex needed.

He turned around toward his father and made a gesture with his face. "Let us continue, Father."

He wouldn’t let the presence of this woman be a deterrent to any of the enjoyment and distractions he was going to have over the next few days.

They arrived at the venue where the tournament was taking place. It was a massive arena spanning many hectares of land, containing many different arenas for battle.

It was originally a place for regular battles and betting, but every few centuries, when the tournament came around, it transformed into a venue for it.

"God, there are so many people here," Long Huan said with no small amount of surprise.

"They said this was going to be the case, didn’t they?" Graham asked. "Something about people who missed out on the last one due to the Red Heaven Realm joining this one too."

Alex looked around. "I don’t think it’s just that," he said. "There are more people because there are members from many of the Gods’ cults who should be here too. This must be an important event for that reason as well, since many of them will be taking part."

Graham and Long Huan both appeared not to have thought about that at all.

"That makes so much sense," Graham said. "No wonder it’s so packed this time around."

"This tournament might end up taking much longer than the last one," Long Huan said. "You’re fine with spending maybe a week or two longer than expected, right?"

Alex laughed slightly. "Of course. I have nowhere else to go."

"Good. Then let’s get registered."
