Chapter 3378 Before the Dragons
Chapter 3378 Before the Dragons
Three Azure Dragons waited for Alex, Pearl, and Bai Jingshen inside the palace’s main hall.
The Azure Dragon patriarch, Qing Sunwen, sat in the middle seat. To the right was the Celestial Alex had seen back in the Sun’s Talon realm. To the left was a female Azure Dragon that looked quite old, even when compared to the other two.
Together, the three welcomed them.
Alex bowed slightly and looked back up at the three. Pearl and Bai Jingshen gave a deeper bow, as one would expect from them.
The patriarch looked at him, then at Pearl, and then back at him. It was as if he could hardly decide who to focus on.
The male Celestial on the right had seen Pearl before, so he wasn’t as surprised. He kept his eyes on Alex.
The female Celestial, however, stared at Pearl with an open look of surprise. She had heard about him before, but seeing and sensing him was much different than just hearing about him.
“Welcome back,” the Azure Dragon said. “How was your journey from the Sun’s Talon realm? I expect it to be smooth.”
“It was,” Alex said. “We stopped by the Twin Scar realm before returning, so we got plenty of time to rest as well.”
“Ah!” the patriarch said, continuing to look at Alex. “So… is it true? I can’t tell by just looking whether it’s true or not.”
Alex stared at him. “That I’m the Sun God? It’s true,” he said. “But I’m still quite weak, so I’m not sure it will matter just yet that I am who I am. I’ve said it to the White Tiger patriarch and the Vermilion Bird matriarch, so I should tell you as well. I will not invoke your vow just yet. It is not the time. I will need to get stronger first before it is time.” The Azure Dragon gave a slight nod, not knowing what else to say. As
if remembering belatedly, he quickly introduced the two next to him. “You have met Senior Guanming, haven’t you? He mentioned that he met you in the trial,” the patriarch said. “And this is my younger cousin, Tianyan.”
“It is a pleasure to meet you again, Sun God. I had hoped I would get to meet you soon, and I did,” Guanming said. He was a much older dragon, and Alex wouldn’t be surprised if he turned out to be a generation older than the patriarch himself.
Alex nodded.
“Is it true that you are the Dragon Father now?” the female dragon, Tianyan, asked.
Alex paused for a moment before answering. “In a way, yes.”
“In a way?” she asked.
Alex nodded. “The Sun God was the Dragon Father, and I am now the Sun God. Does that make me the Dragon Father? In a way, yes. But also, you wouldn’t be wrong to believe that I’m not.”
Tianyan did not understand what Alex meant in the slightest at all. She looked around with an awkward look on her face, unsure what to say.
“What… what happened to the Moon Goddess?” the patriarch quickly asked.
“She returned to her realm,” Alex said. “She’s likely back home in the Demon realm already.”
“You didn’t stay with her?”
Alex shook his head. “Our paths are not meant to be shared just yet. We have different things to focus on. She has Demons that rely on her, and I have things to do in the human realm. We cannot remain together for now and can only hope to meet each other again someday.”
“I see.”
The patriarch didn’t say anything for quite some time, filling the room with a silence that lasted for a little too long.
The dragon Guanming chose to speak to break the silence. “I heard that you were the one that helped this young beast regain his Azure Dragon bloodline. Is that true?” he asked.
Alex nodded. “That was me. I’m sure you’ve heard of what I did in the Fighting Continent,” he said.
“Yes,” the patriarch said. “You forced our juniors to bleed for you, is what I heard. But that’s alright. Something good came out of it in the
end.”
“Forced is one way of saying it,” Alex said with a slight chuckle.
“What other way is there?” the patriarch asked.
“You could say that I merely punished them for trying to hurt Pearl here,” Alex said. “Which, now that I think about it, they did on your orders, didn’t they?”
The other two dragons turned toward the patriarch, confused by what they were hearing.
The patriarch gulped. “My apologies,” he quickly said. “It was not my intention to harm anyone. We just wanted some truth.”
Alex didn’t press the matter, since it wasn’t his matter to press anyway. “I wasn’t the one that was hurt by it, so you shouldn’t
apologize to me.”
The patriarch paused and turned toward Pearl. “You have my deepest apology for what I put you through. Those juniors only came after
you on my account.”
Pearl thought for a moment and shrugged. He could hardly remember
anything worth being angry about when it came to the dragons, especially when the White Tigers were so much worse back then.
“That’s alright,” Pearl said in the end. “I gained something out of it in the end, so I’m not angry.”
The patriarch smiled finally. “To be fair, what you got is indeed incredible. You’ve received your Azure Dragon bloodline finally, and it’s quite strong too from the looks of it. Let us head over to the purity testing tablet again and test you.”
The patriarch moved, but Pearl had no such intention.
“No, Patriarch,” he quickly said. “Thank you for the opportunity, but I would like to decline it.”
“Decline it?” the patriarch paused, confused. “What do you mean?”
“When I last came around, you threw me away without a second glance,” Pearl said, his chest rising higher. “Now that I’ve evolved into a proper Azure Dragon, you cannot come back for me. Neither you nor any of the Azure Dragons had a hand in helping me reach this stage. So forgive me, but I will not be doing any test, or joining the family. That is my decision.””
