Chapter 2988: Qing Lainie

Chapter 2988: Qing Lainie

Qing Lainie strutted into the room in her tall figure. Her blue scales glimmered in the indoor light with a metallic sheen. She stopped halfway into the room and looked at the three there, her eyes focusing on Pearl more than anyone else.

“Grandmother!” Pearl said in a voice that was barely more than a whisper.

Lainie’s eyes narrowed slightly. “So you know who I am,” she said. “This will be easy then. What is your name?”

Pearl quickly bowed. “I am Qing Shouchuang, Grandmother,” he said.

Her eyes remained fixed on Pearl for a long moment, as if trying to search for something. “How are you even my grandson?” she asked. “You are not even in the least bit an Azure Dragon.”

Pearl looked ashamed, but he explained what had happened that caused him to lose the Bloodline.

Lainie’s eyes moved toward Bai Jingshen after hearing what Pearl had said. “You brought me the news of my son’s death, but you never mentioned him having a child.”

“I hadn’t confirmed the fact yet,” Bai Jingshen said. “Among other factors.”

The Azure Dragon showed the slightest hint of resentment in her face. Then she turned back toward Pearl.

“I heard what happened,” she said. “You don’t even have the least bit of Bloodline to come anywhere near passing the Bloodline Purity Test.”

“No,” Pearl said with a downcast look. “I don’t have any.”

The Dragon nodded slowly. “Since you’re my son’s son, I shall give you one thing you desire,” she said. “What is it that you want?”

“What I want?” Pearl asked with a confused stare.

“Yes,” the Azure Dragon said. “Think of something quickly. If you can’t, I can give you some time so you can come find me later.”

Pearl wasn’t sure what he wanted. He froze, his mind going blank. He hadn’t expected to meet his Grandmother so soon, and he certainly hadn’t expected to be forced to choose so quickly.

“If I may,” Alex spoke up from behind. “May I request something on Pearl’s behalf?”

Qing Lainie’s eyes finally moved toward Alex, whom she hadn’t given a second glance after entering the room. She stared at him for a moment before turning to Pearl. “Does this human speak for you?” she asked.

Pearl came out of his stupor. “Yes. He’s my brother.”

Lainie scoffed. “You claim a human to be your kin? Fool.”

Before Pearl could react, she turned back to Alex. “You may speak.”

Alex held back what he wanted to say to her and instead spoke to what was important for Pearl. “If Pearl may ask you for anything, then on his behalf, may I ask you for some of your blood?”

Pearl looked back toward Alex with a hint of surprise. They had just been talking about getting the blood, and they were already going to work toward it?

“My blood?” Qing Lainie asked. “Why?”

“We’re hoping to help Pearl regain his Bloodline through some of the various blood we gather from you and everyone else,” Alex said.

“My blood isn’t going to help you with that, you know?” she asked.

“Yes, we know,” Alex said. “We would rather be asking for Blood Essence, but no one would give us that. So we have to stick with just blood.” ʀᴀᴅ ʟᴀᴛsᴛ ᴄʜᴀᴘᴛʀs ᴀᴛ novel[f]ire.net

The Azure Dragon scoffed again. “Bold of you to even consider such a thing,” she said. She looked back at Pearl. “Do you accept what he’s asking for?”

Pearl nodded. “My brother—”

Lainie didn’t stop to give Pearl a chance to continue. Her right arm shot forward, a tear appearing around the wrist. Blood pooled out of her arm immediately, hovering in a wobbling spherical blob in the air as she bled more and more.

Alex hurriedly pulled out Memory and let the Dragon place the blood in it. He made sure to tell her not to touch the blood in the slightest.

Memory took in the blood, now holding about two liters of an Azure Dragon’s blood. It was nowhere near enough for what Pearl would need, but it was something.

The wound on Qing Lainie’s talons healed immediately afterward and she looked back down at Pearl. “Since you have received what you have asked for, I have followed through with all my formalities. Henceforth, we have no reason to talk to each other. Never seek me out.”

Lainie turned around and walked out of the door so quickly that Pearl had not a single moment to process what she had even said fully.

He was left behind with a bewildered expression as he slowly realized what had happened.

“What a bitch,” Bai Jingshen said slowly.

Pearl turned around. “Why do you say that?” he asked. “Maybe she’s like your mother, Grandpa. She has too many family members to care.”

His voice was almost a plea as much as a question.

Bai Jingshen sighed. “You don’t have to find logic in her actions. Not everyone cares about familial relationships, and she certainly has less reason, given what you look like,” he said. “Having said that, she could at least be less of a bitch about it.”

Alex nodded from the side. “I could sense some hostile energy from her right from the start,” he said. “Is she angry that her son died?”

“Maybe,” Bai Jingshen said. “She may have also not approved of who he chose as a partner. Hmph! She doesn’t know how lucky her son was to have my granddaughter fall in love with him. That bitch.”

“Grandpa!”

Bai Jingshen turned. “What?”

“However she may act, she is still my Grandmother. Please don’t say such things about her,” Pearl said.

“But she is clearly—”

Bai Jingshen saw Pearl’s eyes that had started to grow moist. He hadn’t realized that the interaction had ended up hurting Pearl.

“I’m sorry. You’re right,” he said, dropping the topic.

Alex rubbed Pearl’s back. “Are you okay?” he asked.

Pearl nodded slowly, wiping his tears. “I’m fine, Brother.”

Alex laughed a little. “She made a big mistake, didn’t she?” he asked. “She doesn’t know how great you are. She will soon regret it.”
