Chapter 2867: Eating the Fruit

Cutting up the fruit from the Tree of Life wasn’t so much trouble that Alex couldn’t finish cutting it up within the 6 hours allotted to him. He managed to complete his task in around 3 hours of time, perfectly chopping down the fruit to easily consumable, bite-sized pieces.

He ended up with so much of it that, were he to eat just one piece a day, he could do so for a century easily. Hopefully, it wouldn’t take him that long to eat all of them.

The inside of the fruit was a dull yellow in color, not leaking any juices from the sections that were cut, but clearly plump and full of nectar.

The fruit also had a core like that of an apple which didn’t need to be eaten, but for the sake of not wasting anything, he was willing to consume it all.

He did keep aside the four decently sized seeds he gained from the fruit, which he would have to either keep with himself or grow elsewhere.

Alex looked at the pile of fruit he had and wondered if it was wise to consume it right then and there, but because of his worry of what the fruit did to one’s body, he did not.

The Divine Devil fruit, a much inferior version of this fruit, put a person through Mortal Cleansing, stripping their body of any and all impurities.

Alex was sure he wouldn’t go through Mortal Cleansing, but on the off-chance something similar did happen, he didn’t want to be in this place. He would have to go back to his room.

Alex was back in his room a while later, Whisker following him, excited about discovering something new with Alex.

“I’ll eat first,” Alex said. “Depending on how things go, I’ll let you eat some too. But you’ll have to wait until we get more fruits before you can eat a lot, so you’ll have to wait.”

Whisker nodded. He understood as much.

Alex took out a piece of the fruit without its skin and ate it. It felt hard on his hand, like grabbing a perfectly cut piece of marble, but when he popped it into his mouth to chew, his teeth sank into the flesh of the fruit like hot knives into butter.

The fruit practically melted in his mouth.

The fruit did not have the distinctive bark-like taste of Elixir, and instead had an extremely sweet flavor, like soft candy. His taste buds were overwhelmed by the sweetness, surprising him just how much flavor was packed in just that one bite.

Even the sweet smell arrived back at his nose, consuming it with its aroma too.

Alex was consumed by the fruit while he consumed just a piece of it.

He felt the fruit slide down his insides and settle in his stomach. He felt something immediately happen within his body, like a warm fire spreading throughout his body.

But it didn’t exactly do anything at all.

Alex waited, but whatever he waited for did not come.

He frowned. “Nothing is happening.”

Whisker stood by his side, curious. “Maybe it’s like Elixir?” he said. “Maybe you need to cultivate.”

“Maybe,” Alex said. “But with Elixir, I could sense it settling around my body. With this, a warmth spread throughout and then just sort of… vanished.”

Whisker gave those words some deep thought.

Alex looked at his storage bag. “Maybe I need to consume a few more,” he said. “The tiny piece might not be enough since my body has already improved so much.”

Whisker quickly nodded. “Yes. Eat more, brother.”

Alex brought out a few more pieces of the fruit and began eating one after another, each one disappearing from his stomach like a wave of warmth that passed throughout his body.

Alex ate 7 pieces in total before he paused on the 8th. He felt the warmth of that piece spreading throughout his body and was surprised to realize that there had been a change.

“Oh, something did happen,” Alex said in surprise. “It was just weak with one. Things are changing at a slow rate, but they’re changing.”

Whisker’s eyes perked up. “What’s changing, brother?” he asked, hoping to hear more.

“Give me a moment,” Alex said. “I… I think there are way too many changes. What the hell?”

Alex was deeply surprised by the number of changes a single fruit— no, just a tiny, negligible amount of the fruit had brought him.

The most important thing Alex noticed was that his body had changed without him needing to cultivate. The changes happening were clearly different from the Elixir, as if that was an inferior replacement for the fruit.

His body was likely going to have gone through Mortal Cleansing, had he not already done that. Skipping it, the fruit had started by improving his physical strength again.

It wasn’t a lot, but it was a noticeable amount after just consuming 7 of those pieces. If he consumed more of them, he could likely reach the Divine realm in Body Cultivation in just half a day.

That thought alone was terrifying to Alex. To improve so much so easily was surprising. Although, from what he could feel, the fruit built on top of what was already there, so it only improved one proportional to their existing self.

It would likely show completely different results for someone with no Body Cultivation, and someone like him whose Body Cultivation was quite high.

“This… is amazing,” Alex said slowly, feeling his strength. “I’ve barely consumed any fruit and my strength has already improved so much. I can only imagine how much stronger I can be if I consume some more.”

Physical strength was not all that had changed. Even Alex’s features had somewhat begun to change. His skin became smoother and fairer, his hair grew darker and more lustrous. He looked better now than he had before.

And that too was only just the beginning of all the changes. There was so much more.
