Chapter 2777 - 2777: The Witness
The fact that these people had gotten the eyewitness to come along with them had surprised Alex. He hadn’t expected them to have foresight in the matter.
“How did the witness look?” Alex asked. “Reluctant? Afraid?”
“We’re not at liberty to discuss that with you, I’m afraid,” the short man said.
“You aren’t scared to have the witness come with us, are you?” the other man with the narrow face asked.
“I have done nothing wrong. I have no reason to be scared,” Alex said.
“We’ll see,” the man said.
Alex tried to find more information about the witness, but he was refused even the slightest information. He didn’t know the age or the gender of the person that had tried to put the blame of the death of an entire sect on him.
He wanted to know what reason they had to lie. Why would that person ever want to blame him when he had done nothing.
Or was there someone impersonating him?
Alex wanted to find out, but while he was locked up in this room, he could do nothing of that sort. So, he had to wait until the right time.
The short man and the others stayed with Alex for a few more days before it was time for them to swap the duty with others.
“Wait, how many days before we arrive at the sect?” Alex asked before the short man left.
“We have less than a week,” the man said. “About five more days.”
Alex thanked the man and let him leave. Right after he left, before the others were to come in, Whisker walked out of the Beast Space, fully invisible and concealed.
He also had a few Heavenly Silkworm threads wrapped around his body, making it harder for anyone to notice him. Having heard everything from Alex, Whisker went to find the witness.
The ship was small in comparison to many other ships he had been to, so finding the room where the witness was being kept was not that difficult.
Whisker hovered outside the room for a bit, scanning for any others that may be keeping the prisoner guard like they had for Alex. To his surprise, the witness was left without a guard.
‘Did they think the witness wouldn’t escape?’ Whisker thought. ‘Or did they know they couldn’t?’
It was very much possible that the room had barriers within it that were too strong for low-level Immortal realm body cultivators to escape.
After knowing there was no one else there, Whisker went in.
Going in was as easy as using the Flickering Shadows technique to teleport into the room. Even when he was in, the witness hadn’t noticed him.
The witness was a bald man with a hooked nose and narrow eyes. He sat on a bed, seemingly very bored as he had nothing to do.
Whisker slowly walked up to the bed, climbed the wooden frame, and paced his way to the man. Even with Whisker right by his side, the man hadn’t noticed.
“Stay still and do not react,” Whisker spoke directly into the man’s mind. “If you are loud, I will kill you.”
The man froze suddenly, his eyes darting all around the room, searching for anyone who was there. But he could see no soul.
“Who?”
A powerful pressure fell upon the man, pressing him onto the bed. “Do. Not. Speak. Do you understand?”
The man nodded his head with great intensity, not wanting to die at all.
“I hear you witnessed me killing everyone in the Hell Warrior sect. Why do you lie?” Whisker asked.
The man, unable to figure out where the sound was coming from, easily believed he was talking to Alex. He had heard about Immortals being able to talk to someone directly with their mind, so it wasn’t that hard for Whisker to deceive him.
“I… I didn’t mean to, senior,” the man said. “They… they forced me to.”
“Is that so?” Whisker asked.
“Yes, they—” before the man could finish speaking, something flew into his mouth and entered his body. He shuddered suddenly, unable to understand what had just happened.
“Senior… what did you…”
“Answer me again,” Whisker said. “Were you forced to say what you witnessed?”
“No,” the man said and then was surprised by his own answer. “I mean, no. No, I meant no.”
“Why did you say it then?” Whisker asked.
“They promised me a jar of Elixir if I lied,” the man said, confused as to why he was saying what he was saying. “What is going on with me? What is happening to me?”
“What sect are you fr—”
The door swung open and several people walked inside at once. They saw the man on the bed and looked around with a frown.
Whisker froze where he was. So long as he didn’t make any disturbance, he should be completely concealed from their senses. With his technique and the silk threads, he was hidden.
However, just as he thought that, something affected him.
Whisker suddenly found himself unable to keep his techniques active. Both his invisibility and concealment techniques stopped working. His eyes widened in shock at the moment, but he didn’t have the time to figure out what was happening.
He was already noticed by the others.
Whisker tried to teleport out of the room, but that didn’t work. He couldn’t even use any of his Qi at all.
“Isn’t that his mouse?” one of the people asked.
Whisker made a run for it. He ran in between their legs at a frightening speed, getting away from them. Once he was away, he finally felt his techniques return to him.
He arrived inside the room where Alex was, and quickly went by his side.
“I’m sorry, brother. I messed up. I don’t know how they found me, but they did,” Whisker said as he went behind Alex.
Alex frowned suddenly. “They found you?” he asked with his spiritual sense, trying to not alert the people in front of him.
However, that seemed unnecessary.
The door swung open and the rest of the people in the ship entered the room.
