Chapter 2216: Revelations 3

"I... somewhat understood what he did, but you probably don’t remember the father he once was, before he went mad," Chris Bluefield said.

"The father he was?" Benladann asked.

"Yeah, you probably don’t remember well..." Chris nodded. "Because you technically died once..."

"Huh?" Benladann’s eyes widened for a moment, before she calmed down. "I died..."

It was exactly how Miranda had explained to her, she was dead when the mold met her for the first time.

"Let’s go to the beginning..." Chris said. "Ivan loved you very much, Miranda... you were his everything. After he lost his wife, your mother, Maria, he dedicated himself only to you..."

"My mother?" Benladann asked. "What happened to her?"

"She died giving birth to you..." Chris sighed. "I didn’t want to mention it, but you asked."

"Oh..." Benladann gripped her fists tightly, feeling guilty.

"Maybe you only remember him as a monster or a crazy bastard, but he once was a human just like we were," Chris said. "It all started when you were diagnosed with brain cancer at the age of four."

"Huh?!" Benladann gasped. "So that’s why..."

"It was apparently terminal, and it was advancing quickly, it stopped you from growing up, from walking, or even talking..." Chris said. "Ivan slowly started to lose his mind, as he became obsessed with finding a way to heal you, to cure you no matter what. He tried everything, pills, drugs, he spent all of his savings... everything for you."

"..."

"But he couldn’t find something to heal something as horrible as cancer..." Chris said. "The day you died... he was devastated. But at the same time, alongside your death, Ivan... the friend I once had, died as well. And then only Wesker remained. Before you fully died, he kept you on a cryogenic state, frozen. And then, that day, he started his search for anything, literally anything, that could bring you back."

"And it worked..." Miranda sighed. "He found me... the mold."

"Yeah," Chris said. "A strange substance found in South Africa that appeared from a meteor, feared by the locals as the Black Ichor, or the Living Abyss. He used all means necessary to capture it and use it to bring you back... and it somewhat worked. The Mold used your body as a vessel, reviving you just after you died, when he froze you. However, I suppose you lost those memories..."

"..." Benladann started crying, as Drake panicked a little.

"D-Dear?! Please calm down, don’t cry!" he hugged her, as Benladann ended crying a lot over his chest, Drake caressing her head and kissing her forehead, hugging her tightly. "There, there... it’s okay... I suppose... you should let it all out..."

"Aaahh..." Benladann kept crying. "Even though I cannot remember that... Somehow... I felt that... what you said... my father... I can almost... see it... somewhere..."

Benladann kept crying, as she felt something within her.

From old, forgotten memories within her very soul.

Memories of her giggling and cutely running around her big house, as a tall, blonde man chased her.

How he played with her and always brought her a new toy every day.

"Look what I brought you today, my princess! The unicorn toy you asked for!"

"Daddy? Really?! Woow!"

"Let’s play with the other toys then, shall we?"

"Okay! Let’s play teatime...!"

"Haha, sure, anything for you."

He was such a doting parent, someone that loved spoiling his daughter more than anything.

Because she was quite literally the only thing he had left.

His treasure, his life...

"Daddy... am I going to be ok...?"

"M-Miranda..."

And she also remembered memories of when she was sick and taken to the doctor.

How she slowly lost her long hair due to undergoing chemotherapy repeatedly over the past months...

And how she often forgot things or felt weirdly dizzy.

How she couldn’t walk and run like before...

Or how her father would always cry, when he never did before.

"Can we... can we play tea house later?"

"Yes... of course..."

"Am I not ugly without hair...?"

"No, of course not... you’re my beautiful princess, you’ll never be ugly, never..."

He hugged her tightly, always kissing her forehead, and always reminding her how much he loved her.

"I love you... I’ll always do, okay?"

"Hm..."

And eventually, after those days in the hospitals, one day, she felt very, very sleepy.

And took a very long nap.

And when she woke up, after being within the darkness for so long...

She found herself inside a laboratory.

She didn’t remember anything anymore.

She was only afraid of that man smiling at her, calling her his "princess" all the time.

How they injected her with sedatives all the time, and how something within her constantly was trying to wreak havoc and rampage as she pleased.

And how it always hurt... when those syringes pierced her skin.

Now, both of these memories became one, and Benladann finally saw the truth of what had happened.

And how that crazy man was always her loving father, twisted, gone mad, all to save her...

The virus he designed, the mold he discovered, were all towards the goal of curing her brain cancer, and that would also help her to never get sick again.

Eventually, he tested such virus with himself, Uroboros.

A strand of an incredibly powerful government made bioweapon, capable of granting supernatural strength, durability, regeneration, and longevity to someone that became infected.

Ivan experimented on himself, trying to synthetize the perfect strand on his own body, to share it with his daughter.

The Mold managed to bring her back, but it wasn’t a permanent change, as it was a parasitic being.

He needed something permanent, something that changed her body completely, instead of forcing her to merge with an alien being.

But eventually...

Uroboros evolved so much, it gained sentience, slowly influencing his mind, which was already so fragile.

Feeding his ego for greatness, slowly pushing him into researching perfection and the ultimate evolution, rather than saving his daughter.

All in vain...

"So do you remember him, Benladann?" Chris Bluefield asked. "Did you remember those times?"

"I did..." Benladann sighed, looking down as she cleared her tears.
