Chapter 705: Start Of The Inter-Academy Tournament!

Chapter 705: Start Of The Inter-Academy Tournament!

At last, the first day of the Inter-Academy Tournament had come.

Today’s main highlight would be the battle between the First Years in the fighting division.

Since this was a round robin competition, the succeeding fight would be scheduled an hour after the other, giving each team enough time to rest before their next matches begin.

The first to step on the arena was none other than the team of Frieden Academy, led by Prince Edward.

On the other side of the platform stood the one who led the team for Solara Academy, a handsome young man with dark-brown hair.

Alex didn’t know who he was, but it would be rude of him to refer to the young man as Villager A.

Fortunately, the announcer introduced their names, allowing him to know the name of the young man.

"Kenric Balor..." Alex pondered for a bit. The name sounded familiar yet unfamiliar to him at the same time.

Though, after thinking about it for a few more minutes, Alex finally remembered who he was.

Kenric was actually one of Renard’s love rivals for Lady Celestria’s affection in the Story Mode of ELO.

With that in mind, Alex glanced at one of the young men seated in the side of the audience stands reserved for Frieden Academy.

To his surprise, Renard’s gaze was locked onto Kenric as well. It seemed that he was going to pay close attention to the young man and break down his fighting style for future reference.

’Maybe Lady Celestria told him about Kenric,’ Alex mused. ’It seems that even Renard knows to be wary of his love rivals.’

"Why are you grinning like that?" Evangeline asked before glancing in the direction where Alex was looking. "Don’t tell me that you plan on doing something mean to Renard?"

"Of course not," Alex replied. "How can I possibly be mean to one of my club members? Contrary to what everyone thinks, Renard and I get along very well."

"Uh huh." Evangeline smirked. "You make it sound like we haven’t been together for a while. I know you and Renard have a cat and dog relationship."

"Out of curiosity, who is the cat?" Alex asked in a serious tone.

"I’ll leave the answer up to your imagination."

"...Looks like someone needs to be punished tonight."

"We’ll see if you will have the strength to do so after I suck you dry."

"C-Can the two of you stop talking like that in public?" Latifa, who was sitting right next to Alex, complained with a beet-red face. "People might misunderstand."

In fact, several students from Frieden Academy were now staring in their direction. The girls were blushing, while the gazes of the guys were so sharp that it looked like they could kill.

Alex and Evangeline shared a knowing glance with each other after that. Only the two of them knew if there were any kinds of misunderstandings or not.

"Are you ready to rumble?!" the referee of the match shouted.

"Ready." Prince Edward took a fighting stance, and his team followed suit.

"Ready." Kenric nodded, preparing to battle as well.

The referee no longer held back and raised his hand.

"Battle Start!"

As soon as the signal landed, Prince Edward and Kenric charged forward, bringing their vanguards into battle.

Fran, Nessia, Charles, and Renard all paid close attention to this match because they had been the training partners of Prince Edward’s team.

Kenric thought the Prince would clash weapons with him. Yet, to his surprise, the Prince suddenly lowered his body when he was just two meters away from him.

Prince Edward then did the unthinkable. Without hesitation, he slid down, as if using a slide kick to knock Kenric off his feet.

While he was surprised, Kenric didn’t hesitate to jump to his right side in order to evade this unexpected move from his opponent.

However, that was a mistake.

Before his feet could even land on the ground, the place where he was about to fall onto was suddenly covered with a slippery sheet of ice.

Just as Prince Edward had expected, Kenric’s balance was broken, making the latter almost fall to the ground.

Even so, that brief moment was more than enough time for Prince Edward to initiate the plan his team had devised for their opening match.

The Prince’s real target wasn’t the vanguard. Instead, it was the mage at the rear of the enemy’s formation.

The ground was frozen in ice, allowing Prince Edward to slide quickly toward his target, who was also caught off guard by this unexpected strategy.

"N-Nooo!" The mage was only able to say those words in panic before the Prince’s sword pierced his chest.

A moment later, his body turned into particles of light before being teleported to the side of the arena where those who had "died" in battle would be sent to.

With the back liner gone, Prince Edward immediately moved to do a pincer attack.

Their opponents were unaccustomed to slippery ground, so their fighting prowess had greatly decreased in battle.

The mage who could have made a difference in this slippery environment was taken out first, leaving the Solara Team at a great disadvantage.

"They actually used the strategy they used against you, Nessia." Chuck smiled faintly. "That was a classic."

"Indeed." Nessia nodded. "However, unlike this team from Solara, they couldn’t do anything to me."

Nessia specialized in rune magic.

Whenever the battle started, she would immediately carve several runes on the ground, all of which could be activated with a single thought.

This helped her overcome any kind of situation because she had a rune for everything, including a Flying Rune that allowed her to hover above ground, making her unaffected by the ice spell that Prince Edward’s team had used against their enemies.

The helpless team from Solara fell one by one until only Kenric was left.

He fought valiantly, but a five versus one battle wasn’t something that could be won so easily.

A moment later, cheers erupted from the stands of Frieden Academy as they cheered for their representatives that fought the good fight.

An hour later, they would be fighting against the First Years of Faelarun Academy, who were very impressed with the strategy that their competitors had used.

The First Years had a one-hour break, but that didn’t mean that the competition would pause.

No.

It would actually continue.

Now that the First Years were done with their battle, it was the Second Years’ turn to fight.

This time, it was a battle between Faelarun Academy and Solara Academy.

And, as if to redeem their earlier loss, the Second Years of Solara Academy won their match, earning them praises from the students who had come to watch them perform in the tournament.
