With her father finally gone from town, Alex decided to take Eva on a date. Now that he was free, he wanted to spend some quality time with her.

Earlier, he couldn’t do much with his lover. Nero had been too intimidating, and he feared his severed head rolling on the ground if he was too affectionate with Eva.

Similar to what he and Chuck had done with Prince Edward, the pair of lovers wandered along the city streets, trying out different foods sold by various stalls.

Evangeline wanted to try many things with Alex, but she prioritized trying out desserts she was seeing for the first time.

Alex even uncontrollably grinned when he saw her cute reaction after eating cotton candy for the first time.

Seeing her smile made Alex realize that she was just a girl who still hadn’t experienced many things in the world due to her father’s position within the organization of the demon worshipers.

“What’s wrong?” Evangeline asked after noticing Alex silently observing her face. “Is there cotton candy on my face?”

“No,” Alex replied. “But you’re definitely sweeter than cotton candy.”

Alex knew his words were cringy, but he couldn’t help but say them anyway. After all, she was the Heroine who had plotted to bring down the Aetherion Empire in order to avenge him.

He could only imagine how much she loved him for her to dedicate her life to such a cause. In the end, she succeeded. And the price she had to pay was her soul.

The young man wouldn’t allow her to suffer such a fate. He also wanted Evangeline to know how much he loved her.

After the two resumed their food trip in the city for a while longer, they soon had their fill. However, they were not in the mood to return, so they continued to walk hand in hand with no destination in mind.

The two of them even climbed up the highest tower of the city to watch the sunset together. While there, Evangeline rested her head on Alex’s shoulder, wrapping her arms around his body.

“I wish this moment can last forever,” Evangeline muttered. “I’m so happy right now.”

“We will have more happy times in the future,” Alex replied. “So, look forward to it.”

“Do you promise?” Evangeline asked.

“Yes,” Alex replied, holding her a little tighter in his embrace. “I promise.”

As the sun finally set over the horizon, painting the sky in the colors of orange and purple, Alex and Evangeline shared a kiss with each other.

After climbing down the tower, the young lady still didn’t want to return to the academy.

It seemed like she wanted to tell Alex something, but she didn’t have the courage to say it.

Fortunately for her, her lover voiced out the exact same thing she wanted to say.

“Do you want to stay at an inn for the night?” Alex asked, looking at Evangeline with a hint of red on his face.

It was an invitation.

An invitation to take their relationship a step further.

Something Evangeline had always wanted. Something she had wished for ever since they parted ways many years ago.

To be with Alex.

She had been so heartbroken after her father told her that Alex had died. However, she refused to believe it.

The young lady didn’t want to admit it, but she had lived in denial for many years until they finally reunited in the academy.

When she saw him back then, she wasn’t entirely sure if Alex was indeed the prince whom she had grown up with.

Although he looked different, his presence felt the same. The scent of his blood was also similar, so Evangeline took the chance to approach him.

And she always thanked herself for doing so.

As she gazed up at her lover’s eyes, Alex pulled her closer to him. They hugged each other in that narrow alley, not caring about the bustling city around them.

“You haven’t given me your answer,” Alex whispered. “Do you want to stay at an inn with me tonight?”

“Yes,” Evangeline replied, hugging Alex tighter. “I want to be with you tonight. I’ve waited many years for this moment.”

Her words contained a different meaning.

A meaning that Alex understood very well, for he also felt the same way.

Walking hand in hand, they headed to the best inn in the city. One that even nobles booked whenever they visited the capital city.

When they finally locked the door behind them, Alex and Evangeline didn’t head to the bed immediately.

Instead, they went to the bathroom together.

Alex personally washed Evangeline’s hair and body. And she did the same to him.

Both took liberties with each other, extending their bathing time by another half hour before they finally dried themselves together.

“You’re beautiful,” Alex said as he looked at Evangeline, who was now lying on the bed. Her hair spread on the white sheets like a waterfall as she looked up at him with a face filled with affection.

“And you’re so… manly,” Evangeline replied, her gaze looking at Alex’s lower half.

The young man no longer hesitated and lowered his head to kiss the young lady, who made his heart beat fast inside his chest.

Evangeline responded immediately, her hands wrapping around his neck, holding him in place as they ravaged each other’s lips.

The world outside the room seemed to fade as they kissed each other, not wanting this moment to end.

When they finally separated, Evangeline looked up at him, her eyes moist with unshed tears.

“I really thought I lost you…” Evangeline said softly, her voice trembling just enough to let her inner fears show.

“You didn’t lose me,” Alex murmured, pressing his forehead against hers. “I’m always here.”

He then reached out to touch her hand, and placed it over his chest.

Evangeline could feel his fast heartbeat under the palm of her hand, making her realize that she wasn’t the only one feeling nervous in what they were about to do.

Since it was her first time, Alex wanted to make it very memorable.

With that, his hands and lips wandered around her body, caressing, fondling, and kissing the places which elicited soft sighs from her lips.

The night had just begun, yet their hearts were already starting to beat as one.
