Chapter 660: Bad Ending? [Part 1]
A few hours after Aeris and Alex’s discussion, the young man strolled around the academy without a destination in mind.
He was exempted from classes. He was not also exempted from singing training—more accurately, he was banned from even entering the music hall.
Professor Arienna randomly sighed out an excuse, saying she had given Alex his own special training and that he mustn’t be disturbed no matter what.
With nothing to do inside the academy, Alex decided to take a stroll in the city instead.
The guard allowed him to pass through the gate since Alex had permission. Specifically, they had been given a list of students allowed to exit and enter the academy anytime during the one-month preparation for the inter-academy tournaments.
Alex first visited the Sunveil Orphanage to check how Chuck’s mother, Lady Dorothy, was doing.
As he neared the orphanage, the sound of children laughing and playing around reached his ears.
When he took a peek at the gate, he saw Lady Dorothy, as well as Charles’ little sister, Eris, running hand in hand.
The kids were playing tag. At the moment, the two were running away to escape their pursuer.
The five-year-old looked incredibly happy as she played tag with Lady Dorothy, whose ailment had been cured completely.
The smile on the beautiful woman’s face was dazzling, which made Alex realize whose amazing genes Chuck had inherited.
’I’m glad both of them are happy,’ Alex thought before walking away.
However, just as he was about to turn into a corner, he bumped into someone, which made him stagger.
“I’m sorry!” Alex immediately apologized to the person whom he bumped into. “I wasn’t looking where I was going, are you alri—Eva?”
Yes. The one he bumped into was Evangeline. He immediately helped her stand up.
“Are you alright?” Alex asked. “Are you hurt anywhere?”
“I’m fine.” Evangeline looked pleasantly surprised after bumping into her lover. “What are you doing here? Class is still ongoing.”
“I should be asking you that question.” Alex blinked. “Why are you not in class?”
The young lady hesitated, but thinking it was fine to tell her boyfriend why she wasn’t in the academy, she decided to come clean.
“I got a message from my father. He’s asking to meet with me,” Evangeline said. “You should go back to the academy, Alex. If my father sees you…”
“It’s too late for that, Eva.”
A chilling voice spoke from behind Alex, which made the young man’s body stiffen up.
The young man didn’t even need to turn around to know who had talked behind him. After all, he could recognize the voice anywhere. It was none other than the Vampire Lord, who was also Evangeline’s father.
Nero Severus Noctem.
The one person who knew of Alex’s past, as well as someone whom the latter didn’t want to meet under any circumstances, even if he was his future father-in-law!
“Perfect timing.” Nero rested his hand on Alex’s shoulder, holding him in a vice grip. “I was wondering how I’ll invite you for a chat, so this saves me the trouble.”
Without another word, a mist of red smoke covered the three of them, which dispersed after a few seconds.
When the red mist receded, the three were no longer there, vanishing out of thin air.
Somewhere in the city, a red mist manifested inside a room.
A moment later, Alex, Nero, and Evangeline materialized, making the young man feel a sense of dread he hadn’t felt in a long time.
“Welcome back, Master,” Eleanora greeted Nero before glancing at Alex and Evangeline.
She was quite surprised to see Alex with her Master, which made her wonder if the young man’s luck had finally run out.
“Serve our guests some bloody tea, Eleanora,” Nero ordered. “We have to show our guests some hospitality, right?”
“Yes, Master.” Eleanora bowed respectfully before giving Alex the ’you’re so f*cked’ gaze before leaving.
Alex would have agreed with the look if not for the fact that Evangeline was clinging onto his arm while smiling at her father.
Had the situation been different—something safe where he didn’t feel like he could die at any moment—Alex would have already let his lover sit on his lap and start their cuddling session.
“Have a seat,” Nero said before sitting on a chair.
Evangeline guided Alex to the couch and sat facing her father. She was happy to have bumped into Alex, but seeing him as stiff as a stick in front of her father made her pity his lover very much.
“Father, please stop intimidating Alex.” Evangeline wrapped her arms around Alex protectively.
“I’m not intimidating him,” Nero replied. “I’m always like this.”
“Then stop being like that.”
“And how am I supposed to do that, hmm?”
Nero wasn’t exactly thrilled to see Alex with his daughter after traveling a long distance to visit her.
It had been a while since they had last talked face to face, and he wanted to spend some time with her without a third wheel getting in the way.
Unfortunately, things didn’t go the way he planned. On top of that, the young man he didn’t want to see was being hugged by his daughter right in front of him!
Perhaps sensing the oozing killing intent from the Vampire Lord, Alex decided to do some damage control right away.
“E-Eva, I think your father wants to have a talk with you,” Alex said. “I’ll just head back to the academy and let you have some family time together.”
“No.” Evangeline had no intention of letting him go as she began to hug him tighter. “You’re staying here with me.”
“Hah…” An annoyed sigh escaped Nero’s lips, which made Alex almost jump up in fright.
If not for Evangeline holding onto him tightly, he might have already jumped out of the window in order to escape.
“Tell me. How far have you and this… kid have gotten into your relationship?” Nero asked in an annoyed tone. “Seeing your overprotectivene, does this mean that he’s already made you his woman?”
“Not yet,” Evangeline replied. “He wants to do it in a more romantic setting.”
At her answer, Nero’s hostility decreased a bit. However, Evangeline’s next words made Alex almost cough blood then and there.
“But aside from crossing that line, we have already done everything there is to be done as lovers!” Evangeline declared.
At that moment, Alex wondered if he had accidentally triggered a bad ending that no one had discovered yet.
Soon, a heavy and suffocating silence blanketed the room.
Alex could feel his soul trying to leave his body, but he endured and held on for his dear life.
“…Everything?” Nero asked softly.
That one word… uttered in a calm, almost gentle tone was far more terrifying than any roar, screech, or hiss from a monster that Alex had ever faced in his life.
