Endless Horde: Through the Eyes of a Godking

Chapter 904: It’s Time

Chapter 904: It’s Time

Dozens of years passed by quickly since Patricia’s breakthrough…

News of her reaching the Primal Origin Lifeform Realm has spread far and wide; it was done by those who were able to see the phenomenon happening. When news of it couldn’t be contained anymore, the Human Council HQ confirmed the rumors, which sent humans into another wave of celebrations.

However, Patricia herself didn’t participate in any of the events. To her, this was unnecessary. The fact that she made it this far was already all the celebration she’d ever need.

Of course, she didn’t go out of her way to stop the celebrations for her; she’s not that bitter or foul. She just stayed away from them even though they requested her presence.

Of course, Nick and the rest didn’t participate either. The surprise came and went quick. They’re just happy that their friend made it to the other side safely.

That said, Patricia’s success emboldened the rest. Gibson, Urek, and Berk had been given enough clarity and encouragement to boldly pursue their own paths and see it to the end.

Not that they’ve been idle all these times. They’ve been putting in the effort behind the scenes too; it’s just that they have to cover for the absence of both Nick and Pat, which is keeping them occupied.

Now that both of them have made it, it was their turn to shift their priorities.

But like before, they weren’t in a hurry. Now that both Nick and Pat have reached the peak of existence, neither of them feels the need to recklessly charge headfirst into the unknown or frantically chase after it.

They could still go at it at their own pace, but with more priority than before since their schedules were now more flexible.

But before they truly retreat from the public eye and devote themselves to pursuing the peak of existence, they want to take care of something important first.

Something that they’ve been putting aside due to relief. Something that, in their opinion, had long been overdue.

Truthfully, they could’ve handled this even before Nick and Pat became Primal Origin Lifeforms. They just didn’t want to leave anything to chance; hence, the delay.

But they no longer have any excuse anymore. Nick said that he was waiting until Pat was in the same realm as he was. Now that is, it’s time for action.

It’s time for the Horde to go…

**

The bug empress had been in a near-constant state of paranoia and fear ever since she lost Reina’s body.

She tried to calm down. She tried to reason out that nothing was amiss, that everything was fine, and that Nick just got lucky to spot a hole in their defenses, which allowed him to infiltrate her home without alarming them.

Losing Reina’s body made her feel bitter, especially when she felt how the path towards the Primal Origin Lifeform Realm had completely closed its doors after she lost it.

No matter how many times she tried to knock or force her way in, those doors remained firmly shut and just wouldn’t budge. She was stuck, and there was nothing she could do about it.

This was the reality that she tried escaping from all this time. The fact that her original self never had the potential to go very far in life evolution. It’s a flaw that she desperately tried to mend by seizing bodies of her talented victims, Reina’s body being the best one she had ever gotten her hands on.

At least with it, the doors that led to the other side were slightly ajar. Even though the possibility was tiny, at least it existed. Without it? She had nothing.

She couldn’t even sense the low essence fragments anymore. Although this doesn’t mean that she lost what she already understood, there was no path forward for her anymore.

At least, not without seizing another body.

And since she was already the most talented bug of the Horde that had already existed, she doesn’t have anybody from her side that she can choose from. So, it had to be a human, again.

But searching for a human body that had as much promise as Reina did was like searching for a needle in a haystack.

Hell, getting there was filled with perils in itself. With how much time she allowed humans to grow and develop recently, it’d be a miracle if they hadn’t created something that could very well and truly kill her this time if she decided to come anywhere near their territory.

She didn’t even think about the Demon Race. Those pests are no good. She disdained to even think about wasting her time with them. As for other creatures? She thought about them, but she hadn’t made a decision yet.

And with all of this undecisiveness, a glaring fact couldn’t be ignored.

Humans are just way too talented. So much so that it’s unfair.

Sure, they started out weak, but once they landed, they ran and didn’t look back. By now, they’re way ahead of everybody else, and they’re not stopping any time soon.

This made the Bug Empress feel even more bitter. Why can she and her kind possess as much drive and talent as humans do? Why did the Supreme Will hate her so much? It’s so unfair!

Besides this bitterness, the Bug Empress was also afraid of what was to come.

As desperately as she tried to pretend that nothing was wrong, deep down, she knew that everything was a lie.

They’re on borrowed time.

Even if her desperate wishes were to become true, that Nick hadn’t yet reached the Primal Origin Lifeform Realm, it doesn’t change the fact that he’s already ahead.

The ease at which he peeled Reina’s corpse from her hold made the Bug Empress realize just how irresistible his might was. It’s not like she didn’t want to resist; she just couldn’t. Nothing she tried stopped him. In fact, by the time she realized what was happening, Nick had already done it.

And his words still lingered in her nightmares lately. His disdain, contempt, hatred, and dismissal of everything she worked for, her blood, sweat, and tears…all of it, was like a spear driven straight to her heart.

To hear that everything she worked for, all her efforts, her sacrifices, and even the madness that drove her this far…for all of that to be dismissed so easily by someone who could never understand what it’s like made her beyond mad. It drove her insane.

It’s why she hated Nick and humans.

They don’t understand what it’s like for her. They could never understand why she’s the way she is.

Nick was among the lucky ones. He’s the chosen one of his era. He was loved by the world; he had everything—talent, charisma, wealth, a legendary destiny waiting for his maturity, and a woman who was ready to support him all the way through.

Humans were born weak, yes, but their adults looked after them. They leave inheritances; they leave chances, opportunities, wealth, and resources. They’re given everything they’d need to survive and thrive. And their leaders were mostly responsible for them.

The Bug Empress had everything taken away from her. The world kept stealing everything she loved and cared for. She didn’t want to become like this either, but the world forced her hand.

Was it so wrong to just want a corner of the world for herself? Was it so wrong for her to have a peaceful and happy future? Was it too much for her to ask for so little?

No, it’s not! So why is the world so against her? It provided excessively for others, yet had nothing to give when it came to her? How is that fair?

And how could she be expected to just be okay with this dismissal? How could she accept such blatant favoritism?

She never asked for much. She’s not wrong. She’s not at fault.

If the world didn’t want to give her anything, then she would take it from others. And if that made the world mad at her, then so be it!

At least…that’s the code she lived by for so long. And it worked…for a while at least.

But now…it seems that she has run out of escape routes. She’s at a dead end. Her debtors were coming. She could feel it in her bones, and it was making her feel anxious.

She had been close. Too close. She was nearly there, and it made her extremely reluctant to be caught. But she’s cornered now. The doors slammed closed right at her face, and no matter how hard she tried or begged to be allowed in, it simply refused to budge.

There’s nowhere else for her to go. She doesn’t know what to do anymore, and frankly, she’s panicking.

She didn’t want to lose everything that she had built so far. All of her hard work, her effort…more importantly, she didn’t want to lose her family again.

She had come way too far to turn back. But what else could she do when she couldn’t even ask for the world’s help?

In the midst of her panic attack, she heard it…

BOOOM!!!
