Chapter 888: Banquet (End)
Chapter 888: Banquet (End)
—
“I’m good at destroying things,” Nick declared after a long and uncomfortable silence. “It’s my specialty; it’s what I’m known for. Now that I’ve stepped into the Primal Origin Lifeform Realm, that specialty of mine has been taken to an entirely different level.”
“I could make and unmake whole chaos realms as I please. It won’t take me long either. It all just depends on my mood.”
“However, while all of that sounds good and all, having this much power and everything, if there’s one thing I want you all to take away after this banquet, it would be the idea of freedom.”
Nick’s eyes blazed with intensity. He did not need to release his aura or purposefully antagonize anyone to make them feel a smidgen of his power. Just the brilliance of his eyes was enough.
“Being a Primal Origin Lifeform means being the freest man in the entire Primitive Universe. I do not bow to the whims and rules of the Supreme Will anymore.”
“I could wax exemplatives of what it’s like for hours upon hours, but in the end, no words could simply encapsulate what it actually feels like.”
“Freedom is the biggest benefit of standing at the same mountain peak as I do; remember that.”
“Now, as for sharing the knowledge to reach this realm…?”
Nick trailed off, maybe on purpose, or maybe not. No one could really say. Still, everybody waited in anticipation and with rapt attention, afraid that they’d miss a word.
Some didn’t believe that he’d actually share this information but, deep down, hoped that he still would. Others believed that he would, with conditions, of course. And some just couldn’t think straight, still caught on to the implications of just how powerful Nick had become.
“…I’m sad to say that I can’t tell any of you just yet.”
The crowd collectively groaned; some showed open disappointment, while others veiled it through stoic expressions.
“It’s not because I’m trying to be selfish or whatever. It’s because none of you are even remotely close to being qualified for that information.”
“Don’t lie; you know how this goes. Sometimes, knowing things beyond you will cause more harm than good. I could tell you what it takes to reach the same level as I do, but that would cause some of you to be obsessed. That obsession could turn into madness, and when that happens, you’re beyond saving.”
“I don’t want to be responsible for pushing you to that state.”
“Therefore, I would keep this information private and very secure for now.”
“If, one day, someone actually reaches a point where they’re qualified to know, I’ll come to you. Trust me, I will know, and I will show up. I’m basically truly an immortal now. Even if this whole realm dies of old age, I’d still remain, and nothing happens here that I don’t know.”
“So, if any of you meet the criteria, I will either show up in front of you or summon you here for a small chat. And this doesn’t just apply to all of you who attended this banquet. It’s open to everybody, including those who aren’t with us today.”
“I’m not keeping this information from you out of selfishness. I’m just making sure that it’s passed down properly.”
“Now, are there any questions for me?”
The intensity in Nick’s eyes had faded by now. His countenance had returned to a relaxed ease, borderline indifferent, even, as if all of this was beneath him.
His eyes quietly landed on Tavian, who, by now, had wilted considerably.
For all of the flair and theatrics he did earlier, his posture now was visibly more subdued, humble, and exhausted. It’s as if he was suddenly reminded of his own frailty and insignificance, forever trapped under the humongous shadow of Nicholas.
Although he was the first one to make a move, by no means was he alone in this realization. Every single one of the old folks who climbed out of their coffins with the idea of bullying information out of Nick felt the same too.
By now, they realized that they were incredibly naive for thinking that they could muscle their way into taking what they wanted. Their faces hurt from the tight slap they received from the cold hard truth of their situation.
The world had moved on without them. They have been forgotten, left behind. They themselves surrendered long ago; they’re no longer qualified for the race. They’re not like Nick or the rest of the Human Sovereigns, who not only did not bow down but also kept going despite the challenges ahead of them.
Now, one of them was standing at the peak of existence. And it would take only a single thought from him to erase them all. He doesn’t need technique, rituals, or time. Hell, he doesn’t even need to exert effort.
All he needed to do was to entertain that thought, that the Primitive Universe will exert his will on his behalf.
The worst part? Nobody aside from Nick will realize what he had done. He could remove them from everybody’s memory, he could erase their footprints on history, and nobody would be any wiser.
Faced with such disparity, what kind of resistance could they muster? What kind of trouble could they raise? Even if they were to pool every resource they ever had, none of it will have any chance of resisting Nick if he is truly determined to erase them completely.
Their ideas, in front of him, were cute. Not even once did he have to treat it seriously.
And so, what else can they do?
Tavian himself shook his head weakly, indicating that he had no more questions to ask. He was thoroughly and soundly defeated. More specifically, he never stood a chance at all.
Nick was a wall that he had been too stubborn to climb. He towers above all as effortlessly as he had always been. There simply was nobody better than him.
“Very well, please do continue with the celebration. This party can last for as long as you all want.”
After saying this, Nick shifted his gaze away from the crowd. It’s as if he retreated to his own impenetrable shell, like everything that’s happening beneath him were too far to reach him and held no temptation for him.
He felt so distant that it made everybody feel like it was impossible to reach him. The idea itself felt staggering.
After he declared the party to continue, the music returned, sounding more noticeable now that Nick was no longer standing under the spotlight.
The crowd returned to its usual bustle, but it’s more subdued now. It’s clear that everybody was digesting what they learned from Nick just now.
At this point, it’s clear that everything that happened in this banquet will spread all over the Heavenly Star Chaos Realm as soon as this party ends.
Everybody will learn just how powerful and far-reaching Nick’s power was.
Some people would still insist he do something, but now, they’d be more careful with their words. As Nick said, nothing happens in this chaos realm that he doesn’t know. He’s aware of everything here.
If anybody dared talk behind his back too loudly and too much, he might appear before them and invite them to a brief chat. Worse, he could just simply erase them from existence directly.
But if there was one person who wasn’t intimidated at all by Nick’s display of power, it would be none other than Cedric himself.
Cedric watched everything unfold with a very distant attitude.
Nick’s display of his prowess was clever, but it wasn’t really much. Of course, he caught glimpses of what the Origin Destruction Laws do, but the scale was too small for him to be impressed.
Cedric knew that Nick was capable of worse, so much worse than this. Nick had shown a remarkable patience and restraint in his display earlier.
As for obliterating his memory of the wine? It might’ve worked on others, but not him.
At the very first hint that his memory was being destroyed by Nick’s influence, his Origin Fire Laws flared and snarled at it, scaring it away.
Sure, Origin Destruction Laws are way above Origin Fire Laws in terms of hierarchy, but they’re basically on the same pedestal, so they countered each other.
And even if it somehow passed by his Origin Fire Laws, Cedric’s Origin Sword Laws were resolutely guarding his psyche. Its sharp edge will unhesitatingly sever any threat of Nick’s influence from reaching Cedric, so he wasn’t worried at all.
This was his advantage.
The best part? Nick still thinks that Cedric was affected, when in truth, he wasn’t. But of course, Nick doesn’t have to know that. And it’s probably for the best that he doesn’t.
At least, for the foreseeable future, it would be best if Nick, or anybody for that matter, wasn’t aware of what Cedric could truly do. They don’t need to know, because if they do, they’d put him on a pedestal and place more burdens on him.
Furthermore, Cedric just values his privacy a little too much more than the others.
’This banquet will end shortly. And the entire chaos realm will be abuzz afterwards.’
