The new marker appeared beyond the pool. Caelus checked its position twice and then turned the display toward the others.

“There’s another one.”

“This time I want the high-grade one!” Freya raised her tiny hands in excitement.

Caelus rolled his eyes hearing this. “Just wait your turn. Me and Big Sister Sylvia gets it first.”

“No fair….!” Freya said with a sigh. But in the end, she didn’t refute his words.

Soon, they followed the route through a narrow stretch of fog. A glowing tree appeared ahead with a golden embryo resting between its exposed roots.

Caelus had almost reached it when a bolt of white light struck the ground in front of his feet.

BANG!

Fragments of stone scattered across his boots. He stopped and looked toward the far side of the tree.

“This embryo is ours.”

“Leave while you still can or else prepare for death. Random nobodies.”

Three people emerged from the fog. The man at their front held a silver staff and wore the Nine Towers symbol on his robe.

Caelus recognized it from the group near the entrance. These people belonged to an organization that Bertram mentioned before entering.

“We got here first,” Caelus said with a deadpan look on his face.

The man sneered hearing this. “So? I’m telling you to leave.”

The man raised his staff as his companions spread out. One moved toward the embryo while the other watched Sylvia and Himmel.

Caelus sighed.

“Does nobody here know how to ask nicely?”

White bars rose around him and joined overhead. They began closing as the staff-holder extended his free hand.

“I wasn’t asking.”

Caelus held up one hand.

[Racial Trait Activated: Stellar-Devil Fire.]

Dark red flames covered his palm and spread onto the nearest bar. The cage burned through so quickly that its caster barely had time to step back.

The man pulled his staff toward his chest. More bars formed across the gap and immediately caught fire.

“What did you do?”

“I thought that display of power was fairly clear. Are you an idiot that can’t understand what’s happening here?”

Caelus swept his hand toward him. The man threw up a shield while his companions abandoned their positions to add two more layers over it.

The flames struck all three and ate through them.

BOOM!

Their shattered defenses threw the robed men backward. Fire caught the staff and climbed toward its owner’s hand.

He dropped it with a cry and tore off his burning sleeve.

Caelus glanced at the fire still dancing above his palm. That had worked even better than he’d hoped.

The other two men had already begun backing toward the fog. Their leader looked from his ruined staff to the flames and swallowed.

“Do you still want us to leave?” Caelus asked.

The man turned and ran. His companions followed so closely that one nearly stepped on the back of his robe.

Sylvia watched them vanish and chuckled.

“What a bunch of losers~”

Caelus extinguished the remaining flames before they could reach the glowing tree. Then he collected the second High-Grade World Embryo and placed it beside the first in his fingertip space.

Two good embryos were already theirs. Finding another pair would be enough to give each member of the group one.

As he lowered his hand, several golden lights appeared through the mist beyond the tree.

The device suddenly flashed with new markers.

[Multiple High-Grade World Embryos detected.]

Caelus’s grin widened seeing. Golden spheres hung above the rocks farther ahead, with more glowing between the roots of nearby trees.

There were enough for all of them, and then some.

But then again, he didn’t immediately taken action.

The encounter with the Two High Grade Embryos could be considered fortunate but an entire patch sitting untouched beside them was enough to make him suspicious.

“Wait. Why hasn’t anyone taken these?”

Sylvia stopped beside him and looked across the glowing patch. Himmel drew Freya away from the nearest tree as the fog around its roots began moving.

It flowed past the embryos and gathered farther ahead.

The golden lights disappeared behind a thick wall of white. Something enormous rose above the treetops and fixed its attention on the four.

Pressure struck Caelus as a face formed in the mist. Long arms gathered beneath it while stones tore free of the ground and became trapped inside its body.

The fog giant stepped forward. Its foot crushed a stone ridge while one hand reached down toward the embryos.

Caelus’s expression changed and immediately moved.

“Oh no, you don’t.”

[Transformation Activated: Chaos Devil Dragon.]

[Transformation Bonus: Power +50.]

He moved away from his companions as his body expanded. Black scales covered his limbs and his hands stretched into enormous claws.

Curved horns swept back from a face that looked more devil than dragon. Vast wings opened behind his upright body while a thick draconic tail struck the ground.

Red fire burned between his scales.

Every movement cracked the surrounding stone. Destructive power poured through his muscles until even closing his hand sent a shock through the air.

The fog giant had towered over the trees. Now its head barely reached his chest.

Its descending hand stopped sensing the unfathomable power.

Caelus caught its wrist and pulled it away from the embryos. The giant tried to dissolve its arm, but Stellar Devil Fire spread from his claws and burned through the escaping mist.

WHOOSH!

It struck his chest with its other fist. The blow scattered fog across his scales without moving him.

Caelus looked down at the point of impact and then back at its face.

“You picked a terrible time to show up.”

“My Power Index is not something you can overcome.”

The giant’s body swelled as it drew in more mist. Its trapped arm thickened and it tried to wrench free, dragging furrows through the ground beneath its feet.

Seeing this, Caelus tightened his grip and lifted it.

For an instant the giant hung above the clearing with its legs still struggling for purchase. Then Caelus drove his free hand through its chest and forced fire into its body.

Red light spread through the mist from within. The giant convulsed and struck his arm, but each blow only scattered more of its burning body.

Caelus dragged it farther from the golden spheres and slammed it into the bare ground.

BOOM!

The giant burst apart beneath his claws. Burning fog rolled across the clearing before thinning away, leaving a broken gray core among the shattered stones.

Behind him Freya cheered loud enough for him to hear even in that enormous body.

Caelus lifted his claw from the remains as a system panel appeared.

[Ding! Would you like to Extract the Fog Giant?]
