Chapter 1581 1581: End of Rest (Part 2)
All Adam could wish for was that he wouldn't have to do anything self-destructive to reach the Bottomless Void.
He thought about failure, depression, or just something sad when he read this condition. Those were his only ideas, and in all that time, neither he nor Silvana had come up with anything better.
"Well, our theory about the Highest Bliss turned out to be mostly correct. I hope we're wrong this time." Adam shrugged and left his inner space.
...
The evening ended with a quiet dinner.
They finished eating the serpent and also cooked the piranha that Adam had caught. Alexia did everything she could to show how bad Adam's fish tasted, but she continued to eat and ask for an extra portion.
Thump. Thump.
Still not recovered, Adam and Alexia collapsed on the sofa and immediately fell asleep under Goen's calm gaze.
He went to another room, took an old bottle of bourbon out of the cupboard, and poured himself a full glass.
The powerful herbal aroma immediately filled the room as he put his feet up on the table and closed his eyes, enjoying the scent.
"Agh... How I hate guests. But these two aren't the worst options, are they?"
After a few moments, he smiled before picking up the bottle and pouring the bourbon straight into his mouth.
He had lived here long enough to go from freezing meat and vegetables to making his own alcohol.
Sure, he didn't have expensive equipment like in factories, but he had the best materials, ingredients, and a lot of time.
The result was more than satisfactory.
"Alright, a few more days and they'll be fully recovered, and then I'll go back to my boring routine."
...
No matter how strong Goen was, he didn't know that right now a squad from the Befallen Crown was heading for his house, as well as one of the strongest monsters in the area.
It had been many years since he had last fought anyone seriously at all, let alone in mortal danger.
There wasn't a single monster here that could be a worthy opponent for him. Even Vaarh wouldn't last two minutes if he had to face Goen.
There was no secret to it, just pure difference in power.
Twitch. Twitch. Twitch.
Adam's eyelids twitched as he slowly opened his eyes. He smelled a familiar scent.
Anywhere else, he wouldn't have found anything surprising about this smell, but not here in the middle of the Primal Lands.
He went outside, where he saw Goen sitting by a fire, heating a brown drink in a small pot.
"Hmm? Coffee?"
Adam couldn't believe his eyes.
"Look, tea and berry jam is one thing, but where the hell did you get coffee here?"
Goen grinned.
"Hah, you can find anything in the Primal Lands. Sure, this coffee isn't like the stuff you get at the Citadel, but this plant is very similar. I have to admit, when I first found it, I had the same confused look on my face as you do now."
Alexia was visible in the distance. She was sitting on a rock by the lake, holding a fishing rod and a cup of coffee.
She was determined to catch a fish that would be much bigger than Adam's piranha.
"Aren't you afraid that when she's done, there won't be any fish left in your lake?"
Goen smirked.
"Don't be ridiculous. It would take her less than a year to catch every fish and monster in this lake. But I see what you mean."
He looked in Alexia's direction.
"She decided she had to beat you, so even I couldn't stop her. We agreed that she would return all the fish she caught to the lake until she surpassed your score."
Adam scratched the back of his head. He didn't know why Alexia was making such a big deal out of it, but he didn't interfere.
"Well, in that case, I'd like a cup too."
Goen shrugged.
"Of course. I knew you wouldn't be able to resist that aroma."
A few moments later, Adam took his first sip, enjoying the familiar bitter taste as all the events that had taken place at the Primal Lands flashed through his mind.
As if sensing this, Goen asked:
"When are you planning to return to the Citadel?"
"Have we already gotten on your nerves?" Adam's lips curved upward.
"Hah, what can I say? I prefer to be alone. I rarely have guests, so I'm not used to it."
Adam nodded.
"I see. How about three more days? Will you give us that time?"
Goen thought for a moment before lowering his gaze to his cup.
"Yeah, I think I can do that. But I'm warning you. If you stay any longer, my mood may take a turn for the worse."
"Got it."
Adam was busy talking to Goen, wanting to learn more about the Primal Lands and energy. Alexia, meanwhile, was trying her best to learn how to fish as well as she could.
They had survived a deadly battle, so they deserved a few days of peace.
This was their rest.
Unfortunately, the rest would not be as long as they had hoped.
...
Whooooooosh!
Cutting through the morning sky, Liliane and the other six members of the fifth team moved toward their goal.
They had left the Befallen Crown lands before dawn, at night, but the Primal Lands were a vast territory. Even monsters as powerful as they were needed time to cover such distances.
They couldn't just teleport to the enemy's lair.
"Hah, two K4-Phantoms and an unknown hunter." The young man chuckled mockingly. "Is that why we were sent here?"
Liliane nodded.
"I understand what you're unhappy about, but our warriors have already made a mistake once. Adam Vinter always manages to survive."
The axe man frowned.
"We don't know who this hunter is or how strong he is."
The hammer man scratched his beard.
"Yeah... There aren't many of them, but maybe it's some kind of Second Rank Phantom?"
Liliane waved her hand.
"It doesn't matter. We are strong enough to destroy any enemy."
She narrowed her eyes.
"Today is Adam Vinter's last day!"
