Endless Evolution: Last Star

Chapter 1579 1579: First Fish

"Gha..."

Hot air came out with the Old Horn's breath as his gray eyes filled with anger and turned red.

"You interrupted my sleep for some K4-Phantom? Any Lord, even a pathetic Baron, could deal with that! SHIT! I should have destroyed that artifact long ago so that shit like this would never happen!"

The Old Horn's temper was well known to those who knew him. He could fly into a rage in the blink of an eye, but he could also calm down just as quickly.

"It seems you didn't hear me. This isn't just some random K4-Phantom. It's Adam Vinter."

The Old Horn scratched behind his ear.

"Yeah... yeah, I've heard something about him. Hah, I've been waiting for him to become strong enough to fight him. But that doesn't answer my question. One wave of Liliane's hand will be enough to turn him into nothing. Why am I there?"

The woman sighed heavily.

"Do you want me to humiliate myself? Don't pretend you haven't heard about the disgrace the watchers brought upon themselves a few months ago. More than a dozen Lords died, but Adam Vinter successfully returned to the Citadel."

"Pfffft!" The Old Horn snorted as if she had said something ridiculous. "Of course he did! Wilfred and two other True Lords were with him! If he has the same team with him this time, we can end this conversation right now!"

The woman's voice became sharper.

"Shut it. Only one girl is with him, a K4-Phantom like him. They are both exhausted after the battle. Additionally, according to our information, they are staying with a hunter in this area."

The Old Horn raised an eyebrow.

"Hunter? Hah, it's a good thing that bastard left here decades ago. I still shudder when I remember his crystal-clear gaze. Brrrrh! What a nightmare!"

The woman knew who the Old Horn was talking about, but she didn't think it was important. She knew that there was no one that strong in this area.

"So, what do you say? Will you help Liliane? You may not even have to do anything, but I want to be sure the mission is a success."

The Old Horn grinned, clasping his fingers together.

"Fine. I'll do it. As for what I want in return. Well... I was just about to go to a certain place. You know what I'm talking about, right?"

The woman looked indignant.

"You think it will be that easy for me to get you access to the star? Although if I have Adam Vinter alive, it will be possible. Just... Do the job!"

She said nothing more as the crimson drop faded.

"Tsk. Just turned off and didn't even explain anything?" The Old Horn threw the crimson drop aside. "Well... All I need to do is sense Liliane's aura and follow them."

Silence.

Silence hung in the cave for a moment, and only a faint light coming through the cracks fell on the Old Horn's torso.

Soon, a broad grin appeared on his face.

"Adam Vinter, then? If he's so important, someone must be protecting him, right? Hah, I hope so, otherwise I'll be too bored!"

...

Two separate powers were ready to find Adam and capture him, as well as kill Alexia and the hunter who was helping them recover from a difficult battle.

What was Adam doing at that moment?

Tap.

He baited a sharp hook with a worm and cast the bobber into the water with a wide swing. In his hands was a massive fishing rod carved from very strong wood, and instead of fishing line, he used the web of some monster.

Adam didn't know all the details, but he understood that many powerful monsters had died to create this fishing rod. Considering how strong Goen was, these monsters were above his level.

And now, he was using materials from them to learn how to fish for the first time in his life.

"Good." Goen nodded calmly. "There is a powerful current here, one river on land and two underwater rivers flow into this lake and then flow down the waterfall. This lake has a very high energy density, so many fish and fish-monsters come here."

"I see. It's just the perfect place for an experienced fisherman."

Goen shrugged.

"That's true. When I realized how much energy there was in this lake, I decided to take advantage of it. There are many amazing places in the Primal Lands, but this seemingly simple lake is surely one of the best fishing spots there is."

Alexia sat nearby with her legs crossed and a curious look on her face.

"So? What happens next? I've only seen fishing a few times on TV shows."

"Now we wait." He pointed to the bobber. "As soon as one of the fish bites the bait, Adam will need to react quickly and pull the rod toward him. You have to act quickly, otherwise the fish will just swim away, and that's it."

Goen patted Adam on the shoulder.

"No pressure, but if you don't succeed, I'll remember this disgrace for a long time."

Adam frowned.

"Hey, what does that even mean? Aren't you supposed to motivate me?"

"A delicious dinner—that's your motivation." He glanced at the half-eaten serpent. "We have food for today, but I don't mind if we eat what you catch tomorrow."

Adam didn't know if he could do it. He was a strong Phantom, but he had never fished before. He knew the principle, but he had little experience.

Fortunately for him, he wasn't doing it alone.

"Adam! Look!" Silvana exclaimed, who was secretly just as involved in the process as he was.

The bobber was shaking, which meant that something had just taken the bait.

Adam's pupils narrowed as he jerked the fishing rod toward him.

His speed and strength were enough to quickly pull a massive fish with sharp fins out of the water.

"WHOA!" Alexia exclaimed like a child, staring at the huge, flat fish that had practically flown out of the lake.

But soon, her joy disappeared from her face.

The multitude of sharp teeth indicated that it was some kind of piranha, and it was not a simple, weak fish at all.

Its jaws snapped shut rapidly multiple times, moving along the line straight toward Adam.

The piranha was right in front of his face when Goen appeared on the left.

Without a hint of panic in his eyes, he raised his hand and slammed his palm right into the head of the huge fish.

THUMP!

Stunned, the piranha collapsed at Adam's feet.

"Not bad for a first try, not bad at all."
