Endless Debt
Chapter 1595 - 104: Tombstone_3
"Aisha really loves sunlight, but although the Land of Midnight Sun has plenty of daylight, the environment is still too cold. Eventually, we found this island; all its attributes are perfect, it’s simply the best place for retirement."
Serey carried a sunshade, walking amidst the dazed crowd, stopping here and there, handing out icy drinks to everyone, while also explaining the origin of this place.
"I used to come here with Aisha for our honeymoon, but as Aisha became part of the Night Race, and with the onset of the war, we rarely came here anymore..."
Serey smiled while recounting the somewhat sorrowful words, "Then later... later, it was just me who came here when there was nothing else, by then this place had become deserted. It took me several months to clean up and rebuild the little house and set up the facilities again."
Bologue sat in the chair, looking somewhat in a daze at the icy drink in his hand. The facilities here are indeed plentiful. It not only has food and drink but also ample electricity.
One can foresee that when Serey goes missing, he is most likely holed up here, reminiscing about the moments with Aisha.
"So in other words..."
Bologue was about to speak when Serey interrupted, "That’s right, besides Aisha and me, you are the first guests here; not even Olivia has been here."
Serey looked at them with a smile, speaking in a threatening tone, "So please, stay in your place, and don’t wander around or make any moves."
Bologue glanced around. The island isn’t large; at a glance, there’s only the little wooden house Serey built and a towering tree that obviously shouldn’t grow on a small island. It’s so massive, the canopy completely covers the house, casting an impenetrable shadow on this sun-drenched place.
Aimou speculated that the big tree was alchemically cultivated and must have been transplanted here by Serey on purpose.
Other than that, there’s nothing else on this mini island. Gentle waves sweep over the gravel, and Bologue suspected a huge wave could sweep everything here into the ocean, or a rise in tides could submerge it all.
Bologue didn’t voice his doubts. Since the Eternal Sun Island has stood for so many years, Serey must have taken the necessary protective measures, perhaps even constructing a small Void Realm to protect it.
To cautiously and carefully preserve the memories of himself and Aisha here forever.
After attending to everyone, Serey turned and went into the little house, Bologue could hear the sounds of rummaging through boxes. He must be searching for the Key of the Crooked Path leading to the Land of Eternal Night.
It is a key to nightmares and hatred. Serey does not carry it with him at all times. If he could, he would destroy the key completely, severing ties with the past entirely.
Serey hadn’t said goodbye to the past, due to his cowardice. The past gripped him with countless threads, until it grew again, swallowing Serey whole.
"Root out evil completely."
Bologue warned himself in his heart, not to make the same mistakes as Serey.
"Isn’t he finished yet?"
Aimou whispered, they had been waiting here for a while. Before setting out, they were eager to engage in a fight to the death with the Night Race; instead, they found themselves here on Sunshine Island, basking in the warm sunlight under Serey’s hospitality...
In truth, by the time they’d set out, much of the morale had dissipated, and some people in poor spirits were already starting to doze off, like Palmer.
"I’ll go check it out."
Bologue stood up; in this small team, he was the only one more adept at dealing with Serey.
Passing by Palmer, Bologue kicked Palmer’s chair, causing its leg to sink into the sand. Palmer toppled to the ground with a grunt, then adjusted his position, basking in the sun.
Bologue shook his head helplessly and walked towards the shade of the tree. At some point, Serey had already come out of the little house and was standing under the tree, looking at something unknown.
"Serey..."
Bologue called out to Serey, but his words got stuck in his throat.
He could see under the shadow of the tree, a tombstone stood there. Serey gazed mournfully at the inscription, which bore Aisha’s name. Beside it, another tombstone lay parallel, with a pre-dug grave below it, containing an open coffin with no body inside.
Bologue glanced at the second tombstone, engraved with the name Serey Villeries.
"You might not believe this, Bologue."
Serey spoke in a melancholy tone, "Since she left, I’ve felt despair and weariness about the long life that follows. For a time, I wanted to lie in that coffin, to explore the existence of the Celestial Kingdom."
Bologue said, "But you are still alive."
Serey sighed, "I might not be... ready yet."
