Chapter 176: Chapter 167: Take Down Huangyang Port, Wipe Out the Police Station

"I’m afraid that’s not possible."

Yu Dong directly rejected their request, then patiently explained, "Your factory building is indeed pretty good. It looks very safe, like zombies can’t get in, but... we learned from the military that some zombies can now climb walls. You don’t want to be eaten in your sleep by a zombie that climbed in, do you?"

That little threat was enough to silence the 11 people, who had been nursing their own ideas. They quickly packed their things and headed for the cruise ship.

Watching them leave, Yu Dong clapped his hands together.

"Eleven new members. Counting the eight from yesterday, that makes a total of 19 survivors we’ve found at C Port."

Huang Zhiqiang said, "Our cruise ship team is growing again! And they’ve all made a living at the port for years, so they’re familiar with the machinery and stuff around here. There are quite a few technicians among them. This is great."

Zhao Youcai said, "Heh... We should be careful with these people. I can tell they have their own little schemes... They’re just not making a move because we’re too strong. Dongzi, as we take in more and more people from the outside, we’ll need someone to keep watch internally. Otherwise, I’m afraid Lin Mo won’t be able to handle it alone."

Hearing this, the five sailors looked out at the sea, a bit unnaturally.

"I’ll have my dad go help Sister Mo! He’s not doing much right now anyway." Huang Zhiqiang volunteered, offering up his old man.

Huang Henian... Yu Dong’s impression of Huang Zhiqiang’s father was of him carrying a bucket to go fishing. He looked a lot like Huang, and the father and son had similar personalities—both were cheerful every day and emotionally stable.

As the father of his best friend, he was a natural member of the core team.

Yu Dong believed that no father in his right mind would backstab his own son’s sworn brother. It was like with the imperial relatives in ancient times—they were natural supporters of the ruling regime, defending it against rebellion.

"Yeah, good idea, Huang. We should definitely have your dad help us watch the home base... Go have a good talk with him tonight, then have him report to Lin Mo."

"You got it~"

Wang Dingbei also said to Jing Yanwei, "Officer Jing, you should head back now. Keep an eye on those 11 new people. With you having a gun, I’ll feel more at ease."

"Okay, don’t worry." Jing Yanwei wasted no words and headed straight back to A Port.

She always carried out Wang Dingbei’s requests immediately, a sign of her trust in his abilities and her personal admiration for him.

"Mm... That should take care of it. With two guns there, and I see Lin Mo is also building up her own team."

Yu Dong and Wang Dingbei each had their own core groups, and Lin Mo was cultivating one as well.

Yu Dong had seen her frequently assign tasks to that hardcore-grinder salesman, Lin Cong.

ROAR!!!

Two zombies from Binhai Avenue wandered over to C Port and lunged at the group.

Yu Dong and Zhao Youcai holstered their pistols at their waists and switched to their Death God Repeating Crossbows.

SWISH! SWISH!

Before Yu Dong could even make a move, Yang Ze and Yan Yikai had already shot the two zombies dead.

"Yeah! My aim is getting better and better, Brother Dong!" Yan Yikai was overjoyed.

"Not bad."

Yan Yikai had a real talent for combat. Yu Dong could see he was improving quickly—a promising prospect.

After that little interlude, the group stood on the stairs next to a silo, looking down over the whole of Huangyang Port.

A Port was under construction. Two excavators were digging a trench at the entrance, Sun Shan was leading a team to build a simple gate, and a few others were trying to poke at the zombies by the barricades outside.

Many logistics personnel were also building stairs to get on top of the shipping containers defending the entrance...

A whole bunch of people were upgrading A Port’s fortifications.

The relatively open B Port had been cleared out several times and was now free of zombies. Because it had a good line of sight, any zombies charging in from the street could be spotted immediately and successfully blocked and killed using fortifications.

By the fourth day of the apocalypse, it wasn’t just the combat team who dared to kill zombies anymore. The logistics team, through their work, discovered that poking zombies from behind fortifications wasn’t that hard, and they gradually found the courage to fight.

The situation back at the base was looking very promising.

C Port, on the other hand, was messier. Besides the granary, there were many small grain-processing workshops and a large number of grain transport trucks piled up at the entrance. The building density was high, and the lines of sight were not clear.

D Port was very simple. There were only a few scattered zombies on the docks, with vast stretches of coal covering everything, making it all look black.

"D Port will be the easiest to clear. It usually has few people, and most would have been off-duty when the change happened. We can handle it easily."

Yu Dong pointed down from where they stood. "The problem is defending these three ports... Their connection to Binhai Avenue outside is too long. It’ll be a real hassle to seal them off... There are no shipping containers or gantry cranes over here."

"Then let’s not seal them. It’s not like we come here often. When we need oil from B Port, grain from C Port, or coal from D Port, we can just organize a team to clear the area. We’ll dedicate a day to transportation and stay at A Port the rest of the time. There are only a hundred or so of us; we have no use for so much territory."

Wang Dingbei couldn’t care less about the other three ports. "Our priority right now is to go to my station and get the guns and ammunition."

They had several hundred rounds of 9mm ammunition there, too.

"Makes sense... Let’s go."

The Huangyang Port Police Station was northwest of D Port, visible from across Binhai Avenue. Because of the long-term coal operations in this area, there were no shops or hotels around.

The group arrived at D Port, took out the dozen or so zombies there, and headed straight for the Huangyang Port Police Station.

Stepping onto the wide Binhai Avenue, Yu Dong felt the significance of this transportation artery.

"Wang, the value of this road will be no less than that of the cruise ship."

"Is it that serious? Isn’t it just a bike path with no car traffic... What? Are you planning to abandon the cruise ship and run for it at a moment’s notice?"

"That’s right. We have to be prepared for that, or we could die..."

’My biggest mistake in my past life was not leaving myself a way out. If I had listened to Zhao Youcai’s advice to reopen the underground garage and get those cars ready, I might have been able to escape the zombie horde by speeding down Binhai Avenue when it arrived.’

’In this life, the cruise ship is the same. It seems incredibly safe, but I have to prepare a backup plan...’

’I will not make the same mistake twice.’

"Shh... Listen. Do you hear anything inside?"

By the time they reached the Huangyang Port Police Station, they were no longer in a densely populated area. There were no shops around, and zombies were scarce.

Yu Dong’s group of 30 advanced cautiously behind Officer Wang. The entire team was quite large and well-rounded, equipped with crossbows, guns, spears, and shields.

Now, when encountering a dozen or so zombies, they didn’t even need to defend. Two volleys from the crossbows followed by a round of spear thrusts would finish the job.

This powerful combat effectiveness in the open meant they no longer needed to bring barricades with them when they went out.

Especially since several of them were carrying four guns.

Two submachine guns and two pistols, all fully loaded.

The police station was silent. The main doors were wide open, and several police cars were parked out front.

"Robot dog, go in."

Officer Wang made a hand gesture, and Liu Ye’ye set down the robot dog, letting it go in first.

CLANK CLANK CLANK~

Entrusting this kind of indoor exploration to the robot dog drastically increased the group’s safety.

As the video feed transmitted to Liu Ye’ye’s remote control, everyone was stunned.

Inside the station lay a pile of slain zombie police officers, scattered about haphazardly. There were no living people or zombies to be found.

The robot dog made a full circle, but the noise from its wheels didn’t draw out a single zombie.

Liu Ye’ye pressed a button, and a small speaker on the robot dog turned on.

"Two yuan! Two yuan! Everything for two yuan! You can’t go wrong for two yuan, you can’t get cheated! Only two yuan!"

Inside the police station, the robot dog blared its shrill cry, but still, no zombies or people responded.

Apparently, all the zombies inside were already dead.

Yu Dong and Wang Dingbei exchanged a look.

"Let’s go. We’ll check it out."

"Huang, you guys stay here. Set up a simple barricade at the entrance to cover our backs..."

"Don’t worry! Leave it to us."

After the group entered the police station, half of them remained behind to guard the entrance, using nearby objects to temporarily block the main doors.

Once the defenses were set, Huang Zhiqiang turned back, his beady eyes lighting up. "There’s a key here... Let’s drive away one of the police cars outside later."

"This officer has handcuffs on him. Take ’em."

"There are a few packs of cigarettes and a lighter here..."

Huang just loved this feeling of gathering up all the useful things indoors, bit by bit. It was so satisfying!

Yu Dong and Wang Dingbei didn’t have the luxury for such things.

The two of them went straight for the slain zombie police officers after entering and found they had all been killed by gunshots to the head.

"Wang, was this the work of other surviving officers?"

’In my past life, I didn’t know how many people worked under Officer Wang. Maybe the officers at the Huangyang Port Police Station had gotten extremely lucky and several others had survived.’

"Let me see..."

Xiao Dabe had been on duty that day and knew who was at the station. After checking all the bodies... he made a surprising discovery.

"This isn’t right. Besides the five of us who were out on a call, there were nine other people at the station. They all turned into zombies and were shot dead... Who did this?"

"Hiss~ This is bad!"

Wang Dingbei ran to the station’s weapon locker and found it had been opened. All the weapons and ammunition inside were gone...

"Dammit! Our ammunition supply is gone! Who could have moved this fast? Even faster than us..."

Yu Dong looked toward the holding cells inside the station, his eyelid twitching.

"Officer Xiao, do you remember that stalker I asked you to arrest?"

"Yeah, I know. He was tight-lipped, wouldn’t say a thing. We were investigating his real identity. He’s been locked up in the station the whole time."

"Which cell?"

A few of them went to the cell where the tall, thin stalker had been held. The door was wide open, and the inside was completely empty.

His body wasn’t here, which meant he had escaped.

"The nine officers were all shot after they turned into zombies. So how did he get out? And how did he get a gun?"

’This is a mystery. I can’t figure out the logic behind it.’

Wang Dingbei frowned and said, "This person... is he very dangerous?"

"Er... it’s hard to say. He seemed very capable, but... in my last life, he was taken out by a complete nobody."

"You think he’s the one who took all the guns and bullets from our station?"

"It could only be him..."

The group walked out of the police station, but Yu Dong couldn’t see any sign of where the stalker might have gone after taking the guns. It was as if he had simply vanished.

Wang Dingbei patted Yu Dong’s shoulder.

"I don’t think you need to worry. He doesn’t know you’re still alive. It’s the apocalypse; it’s a miracle just to survive. Who has time to think about revenge?"
