Dungeon of Niflheim
Chapter 1028: "Brother....I need your help."
Chapter 1028: Chapter 1028: "Brother....I need your help."
Ring, ring, ring
As Frost moved to leave the master bathroom and check up on his two lovers, hoping to perhaps to join them in whatever activity they were currently doing he was forced to stop. As a loud ringing bellowed within his mind, someone was trying to call him through the Dungeon’s communication system.
Few of his fellow siblings had his direct number and usually whenever they called him it wasn’t just to waste his time -Aqua not included.
"Oh it’s Agar." Bringing up the Dungeon menu Frost was able to see the caller ID, the one calling him was his younger brother Agar, a Dungeon core with the form of a skeleton.
Upon learning who was calling he immediately accepted the call and thus generated a holographic image of his younger brother.
"Agar good to see you, is this about those undead transformation scrolls I asked for?" He would occasionally engage in trade with Agar, finding the undead magic he had access to very useful for eternally punishing those who wronged him. Death was not enough for some criminals; to truly absolve them of their crimes their bodies would have to make up the difference.
"....Have I caught you at a bad time brother?" Agar in response was rather lacklustre, the soul flames in the recesses of his eyes appearing depressed. There was even an air of pain and distress surrounding him, clearly something was very wrong but unfortunately Frost didn’t pick up on the extent of it right away.
"A bad time? No not really? In between things in fact. Why?" He just finished training with Nanna and Loki and was about to look for Maya and Daki to have a little fun so technically he could be considered free in this moment.
’Hmm’ after giving his answer however Frost started to notice his younger brother’s state. His eyes were never this empty, normally they radiated a fierce flame as Agar was a very passionate and upbeat individual.
"What’s wrong Agar?" He asked an anxious feeling forming in the pit of his stomach.
"Brother....I need your help." Begging for aid Agar’s body seemed to shrink in stature, his bony form trembling as despair and powerlessness overwhelmed him.
".....Let me get dressed then we’ll talk." Since the situation was clearly serious it’d be inappropriate for him to address his brother in nothing but underwear. This would also given Agar a moment to collect himself.
Frost waved his hand closing the Dungeon menu before making a beeline towards his bedroom where his robes were currently laid out neatly on the bed. He quickly donned his usual attire, sorted his hair and composed his expression before heading to the living room.
Taking a seat on the sofa he reopened the Dungeon menu and stared directly into his younger brother’s eyes- or rather the flames that served as his eyes. 𝘧𝓇ℯℴ𝓂
"How can I help?" Agar was one of the few Dungeon cores he was particularly close to, if he needed help he was more than happy to give it.
"Haaaaaa where should I begin." Agar started with a deep sigh and a shake of his head before working up the courage to lay it all out on the table.
"I’m currently under attack." An obvious statement and one Frost wasn’t shocked by in the least.
"That’s not exactly new." He and his siblings were under attack pretty much every day with adventurers delving into their depths to cull their forces and foreign monsters hounding after their cores. Being attacked was no different from breathing or eating for Dungeon cores.
"I know but this is different." The look in Agar’s fiery eyes radiated an immense fear as though he dreaded even bringing the topic up.
"I’m not talking about adventurers and their hunts nor the activities of foreign monsters or even a local power seeking retribution against me for my antics." Similar to Frost’s strained interactions with the Princes of Northrend relationships between Dungeon cores and the ingrained powers that surrounded them weren’t always positive. Frost could name more than a few of his siblings who’d already gone to war with those who ruled the domain in which they had come to inhabit.
War against a local power was a completely different beast when compared to the antics of adventurers and foreign monsters. Frost had assumed Agar had fallen prey to such developments given his desperation and sudden call for aid but if that wasn’t the case then what could possibly be instilling him with such fear.
That tight feeling in the pit of his stomach once again reared its ugly head as if warning him of what was about to happen.
"This is an eradication, a cleansing of not just my monsters but my very essence. They march with steady steps burning all in their path as if purifying something tainted or cursed." Agar visibly trembled as he spoke, the fear in his heart rising to the point his voice became suffused with panic.
"Erased! Killed! Expunged! Everything is gone! My home cut off, my connection to it severed yet still they march ahead with ravenous smiles. Their gazes filled with contempt their mutterings chilling to the bone....such expressions do not belong to the sane." By this point Agar was an utter mess, his voice shifting between screams and whispers. The fire that was his eyes dwindling as if about to be snuffed out one second and then the next suddenly blazing as though doused with alcohol.
Frost had never seen Agar act like this, and it sent a cold, fear ridden shiver down his spine. There was something very, very wrong with his normally calm and easy-going younger brother.
"Severed? What do you mean your connection is severed." Everything else he said was difficult to understand, the ravings of a being consumed by fear, but that term gnawed at Frost.
As if seeing a light at the end of a very dark tunnel Agar stared into his brother’s strong dependable eyes, his feelings of terror lessening somewhat.
"My floors Frost, I’ve lost control of my first and second floor."
"Lost control? What do you mean? Have they been overrun?" The term ’lost’ was too subjective, creating more questions than answers.
"No....they’re gone. The monsters were killed, the traps destroyed and the environment was burned....I can’t feel the floor Frost, my connection to it has been... severed. Nothing is healing...the damage is.....permanent."
Within the confines of a Dungeon any damage that takes place for whatever reason i.e. to the environment or the outlying walls unless actively prevented by the Dungeon cores themselves naturally heals over time. A crack or crater would eventually be erased, restoring the place to a pristine condition but according to Agar that was no longer happening.
"T...That’s not possible." Frost instantly denied such a possibility. The healing mechanism built into Dungeons was a fabrication of life energy, a concept that only a God could properly influence. To sever the connection between a Dungeon core and their Dungeon was something only a God could do....at least as far as he was aware.
"Yet it’s happening brother...my connection with my Dungeon is slowly being erased room by room, floor by floor....within a couple weeks...there’ll be nothing left." His efforts to stop this aggression had been met with nothing but failure, his monsters couldn’t stand against the might of his enemy, making the young Dungeon core’s resistance all but a powerless endeavour.
Two weeks give or take a day that’s how long he believed he could hold on before the enemy reached his most hallowed ground, the Dungeon core itself.
Hearing the eery serenity in his words and seeing the deplorable state Agar was in Frost had no choice but to believe him.
"Who?" Who had the means to orchestrate such an attack and who had the ability to render the connection between a Dungeon core and their Dungeon asunder.
"...." There was a few seconds of delayed silence as Agar once again had to work up the courage to speak.
"...Do you know about the Church of Light?"
Boom!
A simple question with common words but when strung together in such a manner it could invoke terror, hatred and intense shock, all of which Frost immediately felt.
’The Church of Light.’ Since the day of his conception word of the so called Church of Light had plagued his heart. His father warned him, his Guardian warned him, the history books warned him and now his Brother had somehow found himself attacked by them.
To say he felt fear would be an understatement but alongside that fear there was anger and hatred, hatred that wasn’t entirely his own, rather a feeling that the entire world bore.
"How did you draw the ire of those bastards!!!" Frost roared, his voice so loud that the furniture around him shook and a dense bloodlust lingered in the air. thankfully Nanna and Loki were still in the master bathroom otherwise all colour would have drained from their innocent faces.
His sudden bout of aggression however was noticed by Maya who after engaging in lewd acts with Daki was enjoying being washed by her large green hands.
"Hm?" Her ears pricked to attention as she felt Frost’s sudden bloodlust, their soul bond allowing her to sense his state even through a room otherwise cut off from the rest of the world.
