Chapter 1022: Chapter 1022: Fishing fun (4)
"Experience mostly but the environment certainly helped, the lake was teeming with fish after all hahahaha." Daki laughed in a cocky manner, the sight of Frost’s aghast and furious face flashing in her mind.
"?...Am I missing something?" Maya gently asked, her brow furrowing slightly as she sensed a hidden reason behind Daki’s laughter.
"Hehehe yes, yes you are but I’ll fill you in after Frost gets here." Daki’s laughter grew louder in response to her question, her shoulders literally shaking as she did her best to resist letting the cat out of the bag.
Don!
Just as Maya was about to press Daki or the children for answers Frost appeared with a scowl on his face. His eyes roamed the room, lingering on Daki for a few seconds before he started taking heavy forceful steps towards the main bathroom.
"I’m going for a shower." He said in a somewhat intimidating manner.
He didn’t even spare a greeting towards Maya nor a smile to either of the kids as he made a beeline for the bathroom.
"Ok, why’s he so pissed?" Maya demanded answers, it was rare to see her man in such a foul mood.
"Just a sec....Frost honey remember our wager, 23 to 1 so I’m expecting either 22 sessions or 22 different outfits."
"What! That wasn’t part of the de...." Frost who was just about to step across the threshold wrapped his head round and roared defiantly but instead of being intimidated by his volume and tone Daki met him with a bold glare, her hands resting atop her wide hips, unmoved in the slightest.
"It is now." She loudly stated, punishing him for his rude behaviour.
"Grgrgrghrh." What she got in response was an annoyed grunt and grumble before Frost slammed the door behind him. He heard, understood and accepted the terms but that didn’t mean his acceptance was willing.
A smile stretched from ear to ear on Daki’s lips after winning their little exchange, her mind already thinking ahead, prematurely enjoying the bounty that would be awaiting her.
"So you made a bet and he lost." Maya now understood the reason for Frost’s dour expression and foul mood.
"Miserably hehehehe." Daki returned to laughing in a cocky manner, her sense of satisfaction being through the roof. "After four hours of fishing he only managed to reel in a single fish, a single teeny tiny little fish barely half the size of my hand."
"....Really, that bad." Maya could hardly believe what she was hearing, Frost always excelled in everything he did, his talents practically overwhelming even her the pride and joy of the Fenrir clan.
"Loki honey do me a favour and show Maya here one of the smaller fishes you managed to catch." Since words failed to deliver a strong enough impact Daki moved to use visual proof.
"Oh just a second I have to find the right bucket." Completely innocent and unaware of the nefarious intentions behind his Mistress Loki moved to the kitchen before bringing up the Dungeon menu.
Since live specimens couldn’t be stored within a storage ring or the Dungeon’s vault Frost arranged for the buckets holding their catch to be safely stored within the Lord’s manor. Loki simply needed to use the teleporting function to bring the bucket he wanted into the private space.
After a few moments he found a bucket with his name written on the side along with the amount and size of the fish contained within.
"This is the bucket I used for my smallest fish." After summoning the bucket into the kitchen Loki picked it up carefully and slowly brought it over to Maya, doing his best not to spill any of the water.
Maya with a gentle smile on her face took the heavy bucket from Loki’s arms and looked inside, several fish ranging from the size of his forearm to half his leg could be seen swimming around peacefully.
And while Maya was engrossed with Loki’s catch, unable to resist giving the young phoenix kin another sleugh of praises Daki waved her hands teleporting another bucket from the Lord’s manor into her awaiting hands this one bearing no name as if the owner was too ashamed to lay his claim.
"Now this is what our dear Frost managed to scrounge up." With her voice full of mockery and sarcasm Daki removed the lid to reveal a tiny little fish swimming in solitary in a container that was far larger than what was necessary.
Maya looked at Loki’s bucket of fish then at Frost’s then back to Loki’s and then back to Frost’s. The difference was obvious, a pathetic comparison that had her bottom lip quivering.
"That certainly explains his mood." To be outshone not just by Daki but also Loki to such a degree no wonder he came back with such a dark expression.
"I know right, what a sore loser." Daki continued to fan the flames as if hoping Frost would hear her words and cough up blood in anguish.
"Umm Lady Maya, Lady Daki’s only telling you half the story." As Maya was ’admiring’ Frost’s catch Nanna who wanted to defend her Master’s honour bravely stepped forward to correct the situation.
"Hoh is that so?" Maya glanced at her sister keenly aware that there had to be more to this interaction for Frost to act the way he did.
"....." Daki didn’t say a word in her own defence, unbothered by Nanna’s attempt to dob her in, in fact she was expecting it.
"Tell me then Nanna what really happened." Like an understanding mother Maya lowered herself to eye level with the young girl and gently asked her to reveal the truth of the matter which she did.
Nanna told Maya about the bet between Daki and her Master and how Daki taunted, teased and messed with him throughout the entire four hours, never giving Frost the slightest chance to focus and calm his mind.
As she listened Maya would occasionally turn her head to Daki who in turn would simply smile in an evil manner or whistle as if unbothered by her own unsportsmanlike conduct.
".....You’re an idiot." Eventually after hearing the whole story Maya deeply sighed and shook her head.
"Wha...how am I an idiot." Daki was flabbergasted, unable to understand how the tables had flipped back on her. In her mind they should be having a good laugh about Frost finally failing at something.
"Haaaaaa." Maya sighed again only deeper. "Beating him is fine, messing with him is also fine but to mess with him for the entire four hours to the point that all he managed to scrounge up was this sorry excuse for a fish means the reason for this failure can fall squarely on your head....and Daki given his personality do you really think you can escape from his wrath. You’ve not just poked the bear you’ve waltzed up and kicked it....if that doesn’t make you an idiot I don’t know what does."
Maya repeatedly shook her head, her eyes radiating pity when she looked at Daki. Their man was petty by nature; he loved getting revenge for the smallest of slights and normally such revenge took place during their nightly exchanges.
A shiver ran down Daki’s spine as she listened to Maya’s words and felt the pity in her gaze. Her cockiness faltering slightly as her upper lip twitched. She knew full well of her man’s personality hell she wasn’t all that different, but she was having so much fun that she forgot about the consequences of playing with fire.
"Gulp....It was worth it." With an audible gulp she eventually replied with strained confidence.
"Keep telling yourself that." She may be feeling brave now, but Frost would surely come up with a plan to erase that smile from her lips.....in the end like always she’d end up begging him for mercy....not like that was a bad thing mind you. Sometimes both of them would purposefully mess with him just to enjoy his pettiness.
While Maya was getting the details of their family fishing trip and inspecting the glorious catches of both her sister and the kids Frost was in the shower, the hot water pelting his skin as he tried to calm his ever growing frustration but unfortunately all he could think about was getting revenge against a certain green skinned enchantress.
Nightly activities were normally his go to when it came to petty revenge, but she’d be expecting that and for some reason he felt that would ultimately end up as more of a reward, so he tossed out such ideas.
"Something embarrassing? No she might actually enjoy that. A taste of her own medicine?" Perhaps he could challenge her to something else, something where he could be the one distracting her. His mind lingered around the possibility of challenging her to something, but the right activity eluded him until suddenly a burst of inspiration hit him.
In his frustration his left hand swept the wall and accidently brushed across the shower’s temperature controls turning his hot shower into a cold one.
The moment the cold water pricked his skin it was if a blinding flash erupted in his mind and a moment later an idea festered and a malicious grin marred his lips.
"Hehehehehe perfect."
