Dungeon Miner Slave

DMS Chapter 248

The next day, the meeting between Flinx and his friends continued in the meeting hall beside the pond where the communal area used to be.

The meeting hall was a simple, one-story building consisting of only two rooms. One was an extremely large room where meetings and parties could be held, while the other was a toilet. That was it.

Just like all the towers in the compound, the meeting hall was already permanent. Flinx was simply glad that any structure he conjured using the Galder’s Tower spell only needed a week before it became permanent.

The meeting started shortly after breakfast.

Since they had already decided the order in which Flinx would use the Wish spell to restore the youth of the older family members of his friends, that was the first thing they did.

With everyone watching, Flinx cast the Wish spell on Paul’s mother to turn her young.

Even though everyone had already seen the results of the spell after Penelope and Bernard had been restored to their youth, they still looked extremely delighted when Paul’s mother transformed into a beautiful young woman in her early twenties.

The funny thing was that, just like Bernard, Paul’s father looked completely smitten as he stared at his now-young wife.

The next person scheduled to be restored to youth was Paul’s father. They had arranged the order so that only one person from each couple would be placed in the lottery. Once that person’s name was drawn, the next scheduled turn would automatically go to their husband or wife.

After Paul’s parents left, the meeting continued.

The next topic they wanted to discuss was whether they should form some kind of governing body for the compound.

“What do you mean by a governing body? Like a homeowners’ association?” Samuel asked.

When Mark said that was what he had in mind, many of them vehemently disagreed with the idea of forming such a group.

Flinx knew the main reason for their reaction was the short videos they had seen on internet platforms depicting the horrors of dealing with homeowners’ associations.

The result of the discussion was that each family would be responsible for the cleanliness of its own tower and the surrounding area. That shouldn’t be difficult since they would mostly rely on servants for maintenance.

As for the general cleanliness of the compound, Oscar suggested that they form a group of servants led by a head servant or butler to maintain the shared areas.

Since Oscar was the one who suggested the idea, the responsibility fell on his shoulders.

Oscar complained a little, but Samuel simply told him that it wasn’t a “biggie” since he could talk to one of the servants or even Olivia about how to organize such a group.

Basically, the conclusion was that the compound would be treated as a large, gated community where several families lived. Each family would be responsible for its own home.

To avoid unnecessary issues, they would not act as one large family. Instead, they would treat one another as neighbors.

General maintenance and security for the compound would be handled by servants Olivia had already hired or would hire in the future. In effect, the locals would serve as their de facto homeowners’ association.

Since employing all those people would cost money, the discussion eventually returned to the need for a source of income.

Paul and Mark established a rule that everyone could only start a business after reaching level four.

They believed that reaching level four in their respective classes would give them enough power to protect whatever businesses they established.

Until then, they would rely solely on dungeon delving as their source of funds.

Despite Flinx’s protests, Paul and Mark formally acknowledged their debt to him and drew up a contract that everyone signed. Under the agreement, they would repay Flinx for every mana stone he had given them.

When they began discussing the cost of the towers, however, Flinx put his foot down.

He told his friends that casting the spell was not difficult for him and that no resources were consumed in creating the towers.

The next topic was the education of their family members, specifically their ability to learn the local language.

Currently, the two tutors Andrew had hired were only teaching the family members of Andrew, Samuel, Arnold, and Arnel.

They decided that each family would be responsible for arranging education for its own members. They could hire a tutor themselves or coordinate with another family and share the cost of hiring someone to teach them the local language.

The next matter they discussed was their family members’ desire to explore Ilioven.

They were all Earthlings, and most of them came from a country where they had grown accustomed to being treated as important people whenever they visited other countries. As a result, they might unknowingly behave in an entitled manner that could offend the locals.

That would be extremely dangerous because the laws and customs of this land were very different from what they were accustomed to.

One good example was slavery. Even though slavery was supposed to be illegal, it was still rampant in the seedier parts of the kingdom.

Their group had always stayed in the wealthier parts of the kingdom. Even Flinx had yet to see the slums or any of Ilioven’s underworld.

Ultimately, it all came down to power.

This land was still very much in an era where might made right.

That meant that if they truly wanted to start living their best lives in this world, they needed enough power to do so. Thanks to their transmigration systems, they had the means to achieve that.

It would simply take them some time.

Because of that, they agreed that dungeon delving would begin the day after tomorrow.

In the meantime, they agreed that they would not allow their family members to wander around Ilioven.

At the very least, the compound was beautiful enough that most of their family members were content to remain there.

Another factor was that each of Flinx’s friends had spent the mana stones he had given them to ensure that their family members would remain entertained while they stayed in the compound and waited for the day when they reached a level where they would have enough power to protect their families outside.

They purchased all kinds of entertainment devices that did not rely on the internet, including DVD players with thousands upon thousands of DVDs, game consoles that still relied on physical discs, music players, and thousands upon thousands of books covering every genre.

In Flinx’s opinion, however, the greatest source of entertainment for his friends’ families was the fact that most of them were young, with quite a few children among them.

The children had already formed their own groups and started running around the compound, playing make-believe adventures in a magical land.

Flinx had even assigned one of the wind elementals that was supposed to serve as one of the compound’s guards to make sure none of the children were hurt.

The problem was that the children had begun taking advantage of what they had started calling Windy.

To the horror of their parents and guardians, having Windy around had made some of the children extremely reckless.

They would climb to high places and then fearlessly jump down, expecting Windy to save them.

And, of course, the elemental would.

That became the next topic they needed to discuss, but in truth, they couldn’t come up with an immediate solution.

They couldn’t simply ask Flinx to stop Windy from guarding the children.

The only resolution they could think of was to make sure the parents taught their children that Windy was not an omnipotent god. If they continued behaving recklessly, there could eventually be severe consequences.

Flinx remained silent on the matter.

In truth, however, he liked the fact that the compound was filled with the laughter of children.

He thought Windy was powerful enough to take care of the more than ten children roaming around the enormous compound.

At the very least, though, they needed to make sure that an adult was always watching over the children.
