Dungeon Corpse Stacker: I Absorb Everything to Become Ominous Monarch
Chapter 116: The Shadow Fleet’s First Full Salvo
The shattered teak deck of the Sancti Petri smelled of boiled varnish and ionized sea spray.
Shadow Knight Arthur stood near the mangled steering pedestal, the silver-black claymore resting across his left pauldron. At his feet, the two bronze rudders of the Vatican cruiser lay useless, their hydraulic rams neatly sheared in two by a controlled release of spatial friction. Arthur had not taken the lives of the junior clerics. The thirty young men were huddled against the inner bulkhead of the chapel deck, their trembling palms clutching wooden rosaries, their eyes transfixed by the dark titan who had once knelt in the cathedrals of Rome.
Inquisitor-General Malachi lay propped against the shattered navigation console, his velvet cassock soaked in dark venous blood from his fractured wrist.
"You have desecrated the Holy See," Malachi croaked, his voice trembling with a mixture of agony and fanatical bitterness. "The Sovereign may cut our wards with his profane tricks, but Rome will not forget this insolence. A third crusade will be declared across the Mediterranean. Ten thousand templars will scour this coastline until not a single stone stands upon stone."
Arthur did not turn his crested helmet toward the priest.
"Your crusade will arrive on wooden rafts, Malachi," Arthur said, his hollow metallic voice cutting through the damp breeze. "Because when my Sovereign finishes his work today, there will not be a single warship left afloat under the flags of the West."
Arthur raised his right gauntlet toward the southern horizon.
A mile off the Sancti Petri’s port quarter, the black ocean swelled in eight concentric ridges.
The surface tore open with a low, hydraulic groan that resonated through the ocean floor. Eight massive iron hulls, encrusted with thirty years of abyssal barnacles and blackened by tectonic sulfur, breached the surface in absolute, disciplined synchronization. These were not modern aluminum-alloy destroyers; they were heavy steam-driven cruisers of the pre-cataclysm era, their rusted armor belts thick as bank vaults, their conning towers draped in rotting kelp and dark violet necrotic flame.
At the bridge wing of the lead vessel, the HMS Iron Duke’s resurrected sister ship, stood Commodore Sterling.
The spectral admiral adjusted his tarnished brass naval cap with skeletal fingers, his tattered blue greatcoat snapping in the wind. Standing beside him on the bridge wings were three hundred shadow sailors, their hollow eye sockets burning with cold amethyst light as they hauled heavy ammunition hoists toward the open breeches of the twin eight-inch guns.
Through the acoustic link anchored to Renan’s core, Sterling’s command sounded across the waves:
"All ships of the First Abyssal Squadron. Depress forward main batteries thirty degrees. Lock targeting telemetry on the outer limestone atolls of Grid Zulu-Nine."
Renan dropped from the low gray sky, his boots touching down softly on the rusted forecastle of Sterling’s flagship.
He walked past the shadow crewmen without breaking his stride, stopping beside the forward twin turret. Renan placed his bare right palm against the cold, pitted steel of the left gun barrel.
[Monarch Authority: Tactical Link Activated] [Unit: First Abyssal Cruiser Division (Eight Vessels)] [Integrated Ordnance: Mark-Ten Abyssal Plasma Canisters (Forty Units)] [Target: Outer Boundary Atoll, Sector 4, Forty-Nine Nautical Miles Offshore]
The dark violet necrotic mana within Renan’s chest surged outward through the ship’s steel ribs, cascading through copper conduits and rusted powder hoists directly into the ammunition magazines below.
The volatile cerulean plasma salvaged from the HMS Victorious did not resist the necrotic current.
Under the crushing gravitational authority of Renan’s core, the holy Vatican plasma gel destabilized, its pure blue light curdling into a terrifying, bruise-colored amethyst slurry that hissed with pure kinetic mass. Thirty-two heavy artillery barrels groaned as their ancient hydraulic gears forced the tubes skyward, locking their trajectories on an uninhabited chain of limestone spires five miles south of the Vatican cruiser.
"Commodore," Renan said softly, his coat rustling against the cold breeze. "Show Geneva where our border begins."
Sterling raised his skeletal right saber high into the damp air.
"Full squadron broadside," Sterling commanded, his dry, raspy voice carrying the authority of forty years beneath the waves. "Fire."
The ocean died for half a second as thirty-two main naval rifles detonated simultaneously.
The concussive shockwave slammed downward with such appalling kinetic force that the eight iron destroyers were pushed three feet deep into the water, displacing fifty thousand tons of ocean in a rolling, frothing wall of white foam.
Thirty-two heavy shells of solid abyssal basalt, encasing boiling cores of compressed cerulean-violet plasma, tore through the lower cloud deck at Mach 6.
The sound that followed was not thunder; it was the continuous, deafening shriek of the sky being torn open by supersonic mass. The projectiles left dark, swirling tunnels through the salt fog, tracing thirty-two vibrant purple arcs that converged with terrifying mathematical precision upon the distant limestone atoll.
Five miles away, the three-hundred-foot natural rock spires of Grid Zulu-Nine did not merely crumble.
They were vaporized.
The thirty-two warheads struck simultaneously at the waterline.
A dome of blinding, violet-white thermonuclear plasma erupted two hundred feet into the air, turning the prehistoric limestone formations into incandescent liquid slag in less than a microsecond. The displaced ocean water was blasted away from the seabed, exposing the bare granite reefs forty feet below the surface before the collapsing vacuum drew fifty million gallons of water back into an apocalyptic column of boiling steam.
The atmospheric shockwave rolled back across the water five miles to the north, slamming into the hull of the crippled Sancti Petri like an iron fist.
The Vatican cruiser rocked violently, its heavy bronze buttresses shrieking as the rivets groaned under the lateral displacement. The junior clerics screamed, clutching the chapel deck as the roaring wind tore the gold embroidery from their vestments, scattering shredded silk across the foam.
Inquisitor-General Malachi stared through the shattered bridge windows at the rising mushroom cloud of violet steam on the horizon.
His jaw fell open, his eyes widening until the red veins pulsed against the whites. The limestone spires had existed for ten thousand years, serving as the international maritime navigation marker separating sovereign territory from the high seas.
In a single three-second salvo, the entire geological landmass had been erased from the navigational charts.
Renan stood on the forward deck of the leading shadow cruiser, lowering his hand as the barrels of the twin guns smoked with wisps of violet heat.
He did not look at the destruction he had wrought. He looked through the thinning fog toward the open waters forty miles beyond the blast zone, where the radar arrays of General Vance’s retreating American battle group were desperately recording the seismic reading.
"Arthur," Renan spoke through the abyssal link.
"Sovereign," the dark knight replied, standing firm upon the Vatican ship’s forecastle.
"Set their auxiliary engines to minimum throttle," Renan ordered. "Point their bow toward the open sea. Tell them that if a single foreign hull, church or empire, crosses within fifty miles of where that atoll stood, the next salvo will not be aimed at empty stone."
Arthur bowed his crested helmet. He reached down, seizing the steering linkage cables with his left gauntlet, yanking them taut until the Sancti Petri’s auxiliary diesel sputtered to life with a coughing rattle.
The crippled white cruiser slowly turned its battered prow south, limping away across the churning, oily swells toward the international corridor, leaving the eight blackened warships of the Sovereign Fleet guarding the empty, smoking sea.
Beneath the deck of the flagship, the vibration of thirty-two reloaded breeches clicked shut in the dark.
Through the radio receiver at Renan’s lapel, Boss Victor’s gravelly voice broke through the static, taut with a different, colder tension.
"Sovereign. We have an anomaly on the mainland wire. The western fleet is running, but the capital listening post just picked up an encrypted military courier landing at Saint Jude’s Medical Center. Someone breached the outer perimeter of District Four."
