Chapter 155: 1??: I dont care

145: I dont care

"You have no right to talk about anyone else than me!" Kael said in his cold voice, moving his face closer to mine until I could feel his breath against my face. His eyes remained fixed on mine as he continued, his tone leaving no room for argument. "Talking is a far too great a right. I won’t allow you to even think about anyone other than me, understand?!"

I could do nothing but look at him in utter silence because ath this moment, I genuinely couldn’t understand what he was even trying to convey by saying all this. His words were so absolute, so unreasonable, that I didn’t even know how I was supposed to respond to them. It felt as though he was constantly trying to demean me, as if my thoughts and feelings held no value to him at all as if he did not even take me seriously anymore.

I stared at him, trying to find some trace of the Kael I had known before, but his expression gave me nothing.

His words were hurting me more than his actions, and that realization was becoming increasingly confusing as to why it was. Why? Why was I even feeling like this?

He had said these same things countless times before and every single time, I had brushed them off, convincing myself that it never mattered what Kael thought about me. His opinion had never been important enough to affect me.

But now, as more time passed, those same words were getting under my skin. They were finding their way past every wall I had built around myself, and I hated that more than anything. I hated the fact that I was beginning to care.

Instead of feeling the urge to make him regret behaving like this with me, like I would have given it was anyone else in front of me doing all this instead of Kael, I was simply getting hurt by his words, like some little girl who could be wounded by every harsh thing someone said.

I clenched my fingers, forcing myself to push that feeling down. I could not continue being like that. In fact, I was not like that.

I was not someone Kael could take lightly. I had never been someone who allowed another person to treat me as though I were insignificant, and I certainly wasn’t going to start now.

Whatever strange hold his words had begun to gain over me, I couldn’t allow it to remain. I had to teach him a lesson for this. And I would do it in the same language he had been using with me all these days.

Coldness for coldness and indifference for indifference. If that was the only way Kael understood people, then I would make sure he understood me.

"Don’t you think you are behaving completely like a different person now, Kael Dreven?" I asked, my voice mirroring his cold tone.

I kept my eyes on him as I spoke, refusing to let the uncertainty I felt show on my face. I no longer cared about the pain his words were causing me or, at least, I desperately wanted him to believe that I didn’t.

"What was it that suddenly turned you like this?" I asked. My voice remained steady, but my hands betrayed the composure I was trying so hard to maintain. I moved them toward his arms, pushing them away from my shoulders.

The moment his hands moved away from my shoulders and the pressure disappeared, a small wave of relief travelled down my spine. My shoulders loosened almost instinctively, and I drew in a quiet breath as though I had finally been given room to think.

Yet, at the same time, another feeling surfaced, one I didn’t want to acknowledge. I was pathetically craving for him to touch me again.

The realization made me freeze for the briefest moment. Why? Why was I feeling relieved when he moved away and, at the same time, finding myself wanting that closeness back?

I immediately pushed the thought aside. I couldn’t afford to let my own confusing reactions distract me from what I had decided.

Kael now looked at me with his brows furrowed, as if he found my behavior confusing. His expression shifted slightly as he studied me, seemingly trying to understand what had suddenly changed in me.

Without saying anything, he sat straight beside me on the congested couch, leaving both of us far too close for my liking.

I shrugged off the feeling that made me want to stay away from him right now as I took in his expression. For some reason, I wanted to chuckle at his reaction. Had he taken me so much for granted that even the slightest change in my behavior was enough to leave him this confused?

The thought almost made me smile, but I quickly suppressed it. Instead, I straightened my posture and crossed my arms over my chest, making sure my expression remained as cold and unaffected as I could manage.

"You are completely different from the Kael I had met the first time," I said, keeping my voice steady despite everything churning inside me. "Now you are just a shell of him who constantly tells me how I am nothing but a means to fulfill your purpose. Same old words everytime, same thing same tone."

I paused, taking a deep breath as I watched him carefully. There was a slight change in his expression. It was so subtle that I couldn’t tell what it meant, and I decided not to waste another second trying to figure it out. I had already spent far too much time trying to understand him.

"I don’t know what happened for you to change like this," I continued, my voice becoming colder with every word. "But let me tell you, Alpha Kael Dreven, I already know all of this. And I don’t care if you don’t even have the basic decency to stop bringing up the fact that I will have to die after I give you your heir!"

The last part burst out of me louder than I intended. The moment the words left my mouth, something inside my chest seemed to snap.

But I didn’t stop there, I wanted him to know everything that was affecting me from his side, I wanted him to know that I was not appreciating the way he treated me all the time " I am tired of telling you the same thing again and again, and still hearing the same words from you also, again and again!"

"I have beard enough from you Kael." my voice turned slower " I have almost memorised it even, just dont repeat this thing again and again."

Kael’s face changed. For the briefest moment, there was something strange in his eyes, something that looked almost like worry. His brows shifted slightly, and the coldness in his expression seemed to falter.

Or maybe I was only imagining it. Because the very next moment, whatever thought had crossed my mind disappeared completely when he spoke.

"It won’t be your child, Athena Moonvel!" His voice was firm, but it was obvious that those were the only words he had cared about.

As if he had heard nothing else I had said. As if the part that had broken something inside me, that was continuously affecting me hadn’t even registered with him.

My heart felt as though something sharp had pierced straight through it so much so that, I forgot everything I had planned to do.

All the cold words I had prepared in my mind. The determination I had forced myself to hold onto, even the anger I had been using to keep myself together. All of it blurred beneath that strange feeling that had been haunting me since earlier.

I quickly shook my head, refusing to let the treacherous tears gathering in my eyes fall. I couldn’t let them fall.

Not right now, when they threatened to ruin the very image I was trying so hard to maintain in front of Kael. I had decided that I wouldn’t let him see how much his words affected me, and I wasn’t about to break that promise to myself now.

"It will only be your child!" I shot back as I finally gathered myself together. My voice had turned hoarse, and I forced myself to say each word slowly, making sure none of them trembled too badly.

"I know my place already, Kael Dreven! I have no right in this relationship of ours, or agreement, whatever we have."

My fingers tightened against my arms as I held them more firmly across my chest. I didn’t want him to see how badly I was struggling to keep myself composed.

I swallowed hard, hoping the motion would somehow help me force the tears back, only that It wasn’t the case. My eyes remained fixed on his, refusing to look away even though every part of me wanted to. I wouldn’t give him that satisfaction.

"I know I am just a breeding vessel for you," I said, my voice quieter now but no less firm. "I know I matter nothing more than that to you!"
