Chapter 387: Chapter 387
Nate had been entirely focused on Mark just moments ago, so failing to pay attention allowed one of Suzy’s bullets to strike him directly—it drove him nearly mad with rage.
Although it hadn’t hit a vital spot and wasn’t fatal, it hurt like hell.
More importantly, Nate was thoroughly infuriated.
He felt he should have been able to handle the two of them with absolute ease, yet here he was, placed at a distinct disadvantage—it was utterly humiliating.
"Today, both of you must die! Die, all of you!" Nate roared in fury, firing off several shots indiscriminately in their direction.
The deafening *bangs* of gunfire echoed across the space. Bullets grazed the cover beside them with heart-stopping precision, but fortunately, neither Suzy nor Mark suffered any actual injury.
"Do you know him?" Suzy called out to Mark.
Under Nate’s heavy suppressive fire, it wasn’t easy for them to poke their heads out anytime soon.
"I don’t. Today is the first time I’ve ever set eyes on him," Mark said with a deep frown, his tone laced with clear disgust.
"Then why did he claim to know you?" Suzy asked.
Mark shook his head. "I don’t know either. He might have mistaken me for someone else, or perhaps out of some weird misconception, he thinks I’m his kind of person?"
"Are you?" Suzy locked her eyes onto Mark’s.
Mark’s tone was dead serious. "No."
Suzy didn’t press him any further, simply nodding. "Understood."
Eventually, the intense gunfire gradually ebbed away.
Mark shot Suzy a quick look before popping his head out to survey Nate’s direction. To his surprise, Nate was nowhere to be seen, having retreated behind cover.
"He’s hiding behind his car," Mark noted.
Suzy popped her head out as well, scanning the surroundings without finding a trace of Nate.
The only viable cover up ahead was that black SUV. Nate had presumably ducked behind it to reload.
Mark fired two shots at the black SUV, but failed to flush Nate out.
Suzy, on the other hand, aimed straight at the vehicle’s tires and squeezed the trigger. A sharp hissing sound of escaping air rang out, loud enough to be heard clearly even from their distance.
Nate obviously heard it too. With a low curse, he poked half his body out from behind the car and fired two consecutive shots at Suzy. The bullets slammed into the edge of her cover, spraying up a few stone fragments, before forcing him back under cover.
"Bitch! I’m going to kill you!"
Nate’s furious, exasperated curses echoed from the other end, immediately followed by another wave of scattered gunshots.
Suzy popping his tires had completely pushed Nate over the edge.
He had only recently fixed these tires, and having them ruined by Suzy after barely using them was beyond infuriating.
More importantly, Nate had poured a tremendous amount of effort into these tires.
To have his painstaking work destroyed so effortlessly by someone who was supposed to be dead soon shattered every last shred of Nate’s sanity and patience.
"Attack!"
At Nate’s enraged shout, heads began popping out from behind various cover spots in the surrounding area, and gunshots erupted one after another.
"Watch out, his men are nearby too!" Mark warned.
"I know, you stay safe too," Suzy responded.
Before the two had even finished speaking, a hail of bullets rained down like storm clouds, pressing Suzy so low she could barely lift her head.
Bullets slammed into the edges of their cover, sending stone fragments and dust flying everywhere. Every attempt to lean out was instantly driven back by an even denser trajectory of fire.
Suzy was thoroughly surprised—surprised that Nate’s men actually possessed such an abundant supply of ammunition.
They certainly hid their strength well.
Neither of them knew exactly how many people were on the opposing side; they could only vaguely spot shadows constantly popping up along both sides of the embankment and from behind distant vehicles.
"There are at least seven or eight left," Mark’s voice chimed in from beside her. "Three on the right, four on the left."
Suzy caught her breath and quickly surveyed her surroundings.
"You take the right, I’ll handle the left." ℯℯ𝑙.
"Got it."
They couldn’t afford to drag this out any longer; the pressing priority was to wrap up the battle swiftly.
Suzy took a deep breath, waiting for Mark to fire first.
Mark leaned half his body out, and in the next second, gunshots rang out!
He fired two consecutive shots, and two of the three figures on the right collapsed one after another.
The third figure stumbled half a step backward, looking as though he hadn’t fully processed what had just transpired.
Suzy followed right behind. The moment Mark’s gunshots faded, she stood up and unleashed a barrage of fire toward the four figures on the left.
Her bullets struck one man in the shoulder and another in the arm. A third had already ducked behind a car body, while the fourth was scrambling toward a further position, seemingly attempting to readjust his firing angle.
Suzy didn’t pursue him, swiftly pulling back behind cover. Another wave of bullets zipped past almost flush with the spot she had just vacated, slamming into the concrete wall and raising a shower of debris.
"Two left on the left side," she reported.
Mark didn’t reply, but he fired two covering shots toward the left side.
The figure hiding behind the car body was forced to shrink back again, while the guy trying to readjust his angle on the other side was forced to a halt.
The gaps between enemy gunshots were being widened by them bit by bit.
"Now’s our chance!"
Suzy spoke rapidly, exchanging a look with Mark. Every enemy figure within their line of sight had been eliminated by the two of them.
However, Nate’s figure had been nowhere to be seen during the chaos, leaving no telling where he had slunk off to hide.
"How is your side?"
"Cleared."
"Same here."
The sound of gunfire ceased completely.
On the wide, open road, nothing remained except drifting dust and the gradually evening breaths of the two survivors.
Leaning against the edge of her cover, Suzy slowly straightened her body, her eyes sweeping across every possible hiding spot in her field of vision, but finding no trace of movement.
