The Zerg commander lowered its massive, razor-sharp blade. A chilling screech echoed across the valley as the surrounding darkness came alive with chitinous armor and glowing eyes.

The swarm moved in unison. Thousands of armored limbs struck the earth simultaneously, creating a thunderous vibration that rolled through the valley and rattled the steel teeth of the forward barricades.

"CONTACT!" a soldier screamed from the outer trenches, his voice swallowed by the deafening roar of the approaching horde. The first wave surged toward Sol Haven like a tide of black death.

Rhyder stepped onto the eastern command platform, his heavy assault rifle already raised. His posture remained unyielding, a solitary pillar of ice amidst the growing panic.

"Activate all outer defenses!" he shouted, his voice echoing through the tactical communications network. The entire fortress erupted into violence.

Automated artillery thundered from the upper parapets, shaking the mountain foundation. Energy suppression towers discharged brilliant pulses of white light, and heavy machine guns swept back and forth across the advancing swarm.

Explosions tore apart the midnight shadows. Zerg bodies blew into pieces, sending black chitin fragments and dark viscous fluid scattering across the bloodied soil.

Yet the swarm did not slow. The Zerg commander held its blade high, its collective mind instantly altering their formation.

Instead of charging blindly into the concentrated artillery fire, the Zerg divided into three massive assault groups. One group advanced straight toward the eastern wall, a second disappeared into the dense treeline, and a third curved sharply toward the southern perimeter.

Rhyder’s eyes narrowed as he analyzed the shifting red markers on the tactical display screen. He gripped his communicator, his knuckle joints turning white.

"They are splitting our defense," he said, his voice dropping into a hard, clinical tone. "Second Squad, reinforce the southern wall immediately. Third Squad, hold the eastern perimeter. Nobody abandons their assigned sector!"

"Yes, General!" the line crackled back.

The first Zerg reached the outer trench, leaping forward with terrifying speed. Some plunged straight into concealed spiked pits, their cries silenced by steel, but others deliberately halted at the edge and redirected their jump.

Rhyder’s jaw tightened as he watched a creature use its fallen brethren as a footstool to clear the trench. "They remember the traps from the last raid."

A Zerg leaped over the trench, its mandibles snapping open. Then another cleared the gap, followed by dozens more surging through the breach.

"Open fire! Clear the wall!" Rhyder yelled.

Soldiers leaned over the ramparts, firing volley after volley into the climbing beasts. The fortress shook beneath the relentless roar of heavy ballistic weapons.

A massive bio-armored Zerg slammed directly into the base of the eastern wall. The heavy impact reverberated through the concrete foundations, throwing loose gravel off the battlements.

Inside the command bunker, dust fell from the concrete ceiling like grey snow. An engineer frantically punched commands into a flickering terminal.

"Structural integrity at ninety-one percent!" the engineer shouted over the alarm sirens.

Another impact followed almost instantly, far heavier than the first. The heavy steel doors groaned against their locks.

"Eighty-seven percent!" the engineer yelled again, his voice trembling.

Rhyder turned away from the console and looked directly toward the eastern defensive line. The sky above was illuminated by constant flares and weapon discharges.

"Hold them right there," Rhyder ordered, his tone remaining eerie in its absolute calm. "If they breach the outer barrier and reach the inner wall, we lose the primary agricultural sector."

He unbolted his sidearm, checked the magazine, and turned toward the bunker exit. He began descending the concrete stairs two steps at a time.

"General, where are you going?" an aide called after him, clutching a clipboard to his chest.

"To the front line," Rhyder replied without breaking his stride.

Deep inside Sol Haven, emergency sirens echoed through the underground corridors in long, pulsing wails. Red warning lights bathed the concrete walls in a rhythmic crimson glow.

Workers hurried through the transit halls, guiding panicked civilians toward the reinforced shelters. Families carried crying children, while agricultural personnel worked frantically to seal the heavy vault doors leading to the subterranean greenhouses.

"Keep moving!" a security officer shouted, waving a glowstick toward the lower levels. "Do not stop in the main corridor!"

"Follow the blue emergency lights!" another guard called out. "Clear the transit lanes for medical transports!"

The fortress’s civilian population vanished into the underground shelters, leaving the surface entirely to the military.

Inside the emergency medical station, Raviah stood beside a metal operating table. Blood covered the tile floor, dripping from the stretchers lined up outside the entrance.

The doors burst open, and orderlies rushed in, pushing blood-soaked gurneys. The heavy smell of iron and ozone filled the crowded triage room.

"Three critical cases!" a medic yelled, pressing a bloody towel against a patient’s side. "Two with compound fractures from falling debris!"

"Another has severe internal bleeding!" an orderly called out, steering his stretcher into a bay.

Raviah immediately moved toward the nearest patient, stepping over discarded bandages. She did not hesitate for a single second.

"Put him right here," Raviah commanded, her voice firm and authoritative.

She placed both hands flat against the soldier’s torn uniform, right above his sternum. A faint, translucent energy shimmer spread beneath her palms, radiating a gentle warmth.

Her developing Root answered her call, pulling energy from deep within her core. The energy was not yet powerful enough to completely regenerate destroyed organs or missing tissue, but it could force the body to stabilize.

The hemorrhaging slowed under her touch, the shredded vessels constricting as her power soothed his internal trauma. The soldier’s erratic heartbeat gradually smoothed out, returning to a steady, rhythmic thud.

Raviah’s eyes narrowed with fierce concentration, sweat bead on her brow. She focused every ounce of her willpower into guiding her energy through his veins.

"Keep firm pressure right here," she instructed a nearby medic.

The medic glanced at the vital monitor and gasped. "Doctor... his blood pressure is recovering! The internal shock is receding!"

"Good," Raviah said, pulling her hands back and wiping her sweaty forehead with her sleeve. "Move him to recovery and bring in the next one."

Another wounded soldier was wheeled toward her, his face pale from shock. Raviah shifted her position instantly, placing her glowing hands over his lower abdomen.

Her Root flowed freely through his damaged tissue, supporting his circulation and holding back the physiological collapse. Every time she used her power, a sharp pang of exhaustion hit her mind, but she refused to step back.

Above them, the deep foundation of the fortress shook once more, sending a shudder through the floorboards. Dust rained down on the fluorescent lights.

Raviah looked toward the vibrating ceiling, her chest tightening with unspoken fear. Rhyder was up there, standing right in the middle of the hellfire.

At the eastern wall, Rhyder stood directly among his soldiers, his tactical coat stained with black alien blood. A heavy Zerg breached the parapet, landing heavily on the metal walkway.

Rhyder raised his heavy rifle, aiming at point-blank range. He pulled the trigger without hesitation, blowing the creature’s upper mandible to pieces.

Before the beast could recover its footing, Rhyder stepped forward, drawing a serrated combat blade. He drove the blade deep into the exposed joint beneath its armored neck, twisting the hilt with lethal precision.

Black fluid splashed across the concrete barrier as the monster collapsed into a heap. Rhyder yanked his blade free and pivoted toward the ramp.

"Next!" he roared, his voice cutting through the sounds of gunfire.

Three more armored creatures scrambled over the edge, their claws digging into the reinforced concrete. Rhyder moved with terrifying speed, his physical strength far exceeding normal human limits.

Every strike of his weapon was executed with cold precision. Every movement was calculated to draw the enemy’s attention away from the less experienced soldiers behind him.

A Zerg lunged forward, trying to flank the defensive line and reach a group of wounded riflemen dragging themselves to safety. Rhyder intercepted the beast before it could strike.

He drove his shoulder violently into the creature’s torso, forcing its massive frame backward over the ledge. He followed up instantly, firing a concentrated burst of elemental energy from his free hand that shattered the creature’s core.

The surrounding soldiers stared in awe, taking a collective breath before reloading their rifles. The General was not merely issuing orders from a distant bunker. He was physically holding the wall together with his own hands.

Far below the surface, Raviah wiped a smear of black blood off her sleeve and pressed her hands onto another fallen soldier. The two of them were fighting entirely different battles in the same war.

Rhyder held the enemy at the gates with relentless force. Raviah pulled his soldiers back from the edge of death with her miraculous power.

Together, their abilities formed an unbreakable defense, far greater than anything either of them could accomplish alone.

Then, a sickening sound echoed through every level of Sol Haven.

CRACK.

It sounded like a mountain splitting in half. Rhyder froze on the eastern rampart, his head snapping toward the southern tower.

His communicator erupted into a screech of static and screaming.

"GENERAL!" the southern defense officer shrieked into the mic. "Southern wall structural integrity has just dropped below fifty percent!"

Rhyder pulled up his wrist display, his face darkening as the southern perimeter turned a violent, flashing red. Multiple Zerg assault groups were converging on a single point, pounding the reinforced concrete with heavy siege beasts.

The enemy commander had found the structural flaw in their outer shell.

"Reinforce Sector Four immediately!" Rhyder commanded, vaulting over a pile of dead chitin. "Divert all mobile units!"

"We’re trying, sir, but the trench is flooded with--"

A violent explosion cut the officer off, shaking the entire mountain ridge.

The southern sector buckled under the kinetic force. Concrete cracked into giant fissures, and massive steel support beams bent like wet straw.

Raviah felt the violent shift even deep inside the underground medical bay. The hanging lights swung wildly overhead, casting chaotic shadows across the blood-slick floor.

She looked up at the ceiling as a heavy shower of plaster and dust fell upon the triage tables. A cold dread settled in the pit of her stomach.

The emergency broadcast speakers hummed to life, an automated female voice echoing through the facility:

[CRITICAL STRUCTURAL FAILURE]

[SECTOR: SOUTHERN WALL]

[INTEGRITY AT THIRTY-ONE PERCENT]

Rhyder sprinted down the eastern catwalk, his eyes fixed on his wrist console as the tactical map flashed frantically. Another heavy shockwave hit the fortress, vibrating through his boots.

The structural counter plunged instantly. Twenty-four percent.

Then, with a sickening drop, it hit eighteen percent.

Rhyder stopped at the edge of the lower platform, his gaze darkening as he looked toward the falling southern wall.

"All remaining forces, fall back to the southern wall!" Rhyder commanded, his voice cold and resolute.

Outside the crumbling perimeter, the massive Zerg commander raised its blade toward the sky, unleashing a deafening screech that split the night air. Hundreds of armored beasts surged forward into the widening gap, their claws tearing through the dirt.

With a final, catastrophic groan of rending metal, the southern wall began to collapse.
