Most importantly, she was a Pure Yang woman. An ordinary person’s body was simply not compatible with hers.

Unless she could find another Pure Yang woman like herself, even if she couldn’t take over a body completely, her abilities would at least allow her to inhabit one to nourish her soul.

’Feng Ge, where in the world are you? Why won’t you visit me in my dreams? Why won’t you tell me?’

"Why on earth did Meng Jingshu do this?" Yun Changjun asked the young woman.

The young woman trembled and looked up at Yun Changjun in disbelief. "You... you really don’t know, Eldest Martial Brother?"

"Obviously not! If I knew, why would I be asking you?" Yun Changjun scoffed.

"Because of you, Eldest Martial Brother. It was all because of you." The young woman didn’t know where she found the courage. Perhaps she had been too deeply wronged; she had done nothing, yet she was treated as a scapegoat, a punching bag, and made to suffer all kinds of torment.

"Senior Sister Jing Shu likes you, but you like Senior Sister Feng Ge. That’s why Jing Shu was ruthless enough to eliminate her. This way, you might become her man, Eldest Martial Brother."

Normally, she would never have dared to say such a thing.

But today, she felt an overwhelming urge to get it all off her chest.

Perhaps it’s true that great pressure brings great courage.

Yun Changjun froze, the ache in his heart spreading through his entire body. The young woman’s words echoed endlessly in his mind.

’So, the one who truly got Feng Ge killed... was me.’

"We clearly saw that damn girl fall into the river with our own eyes. When Sister in law Gu pulled her out, she was like a corpse. She was obviously dead, so how is she alive again?" Song Fushan and Feng Dabao muttered in a hushed corner.

Chapter 9

Feng Dabao said, "This is creepy. It’s too creepy. Should we find a Mage to take a look?"

Song Fushan reached out and rapped him hard on the forehead. "You think a Mage is free? Have you got any money?"

Feng Dabao shook his head, his face twisting miserably. "I gambled it all away. I don’t even have money left to buy rice."

Song Fushan was in no better shape. They were both gamblers of the sort who could never hold onto their money.

"Back when the Feng family sent provisions, we could still skim a little off the top. But now they don’t care about that girl anymore. What are we going to do? If we can’t get the house, we’ll all starve." Song Fushan’s gaze swept toward the west end of the village, where Feng Ke and Sister in law Gu lived.

The Feng family had said that from now on, Feng Ke’s life and death had nothing to do with them, and they would no longer be sending any provisions.

That’s why they had set their sights on the house. As long as Feng Ke was dead, the house would be theirs.

It wasn’t a grand mansion, but it could still be sold for several dozen taels of silver—enough for them to live on for quite some time.

Feng Dabao suddenly grinned. "Uncle Fu, the girl’s got no income now, and she’s so frail. I doubt she’ll last much longer."

Song Fushan thought for a moment, then smiled. "True. Feng Ke is always sick. Now that she has no Silver Coin for medicine, let’s see how she’ll manage. I bet she’ll be dead in a few days."

Once Feng Ke died, they’d have the perfect excuse to drive Sister in law Gu away, and the house would be theirs.

Feng Ge frowned at the watery congee and wild vegetables on the table. It wasn’t that she was being a glutton; rather, with her body’s current condition, she desperately needed better food to recuperate.

"Miss, the Feng family hasn’t sent any provisions for two months. We’re almost out of rice, and all the money we had saved was spent on your medicine." Sister in law Gu sighed, a heavy, suffocating feeling in her chest. She didn’t know how much longer they could last like this.

She had been sold by her parents to the Yun Family as a child. She grew up alongside the Second Miss of the Yun Family and learned the four arts—zither, chess, calligraphy, and painting. Though she was not as accomplished as her mistress, she was still considered quite talented.

But in this small mountain village, none of those skills were of any use. If she had learned needlework back then, she could at least be sewing now to help make ends meet. They wouldn’t have ended up in such a desperate situation.

Feng Ge glanced at the weather outside. ’Today’s sun doesn’t seem as scorching as yesterday’s. It might be a good day to go out for a walk... maybe I can even earn some money.’

"Let’s eat. We’ll go for a walk when we’re done."

Sister in law Gu looked at her mistress’s indifferent expression, her heart filled with doubt. In the past, whenever she mentioned the Feng family, her mistress’s face would darken with an uncontrollable rage.

But now, her mistress acted as if she hadn’t heard a thing, her expression perfectly placid, without the slightest hint of anger.

’What in the world is wrong with her?’

’She’s been like a completely different person ever since she woke up that day.’

Despite her doubts, Sister in law Gu said no more. Loyalty was the creed of her life. No matter what her mistress became, she would always be her mistress.
