Chapter 745: Chapter 733: I Want You to Marry Me (21)
"Why do I have to stay away? Who exactly is this Miss Bishop?" Shirley Lockwood asked, looking up with a worried frown.
At Rory’s words, both Howard Rhodes and Louise Jordan’s faces fell.
Their expressions were strained, and they didn’t know how to answer.
It felt as though telling her the truth or a lie would be equally hurtful.
Thankfully, just as the atmosphere grew tense, the phone in Howard Rhodes’s pocket rang. He pulled it out and answered, jogging toward the hospital entrance as he spoke.
Louise Jordan glanced at Rory, who was frowning in thought, and sighed softly. "We’re keeping it from you, Rory, only because you’re a child and shouldn’t see anything too gruesome. But please, don’t worry. As long as your dad is here, everything will be okay."
"Of course! My dad’s the best. No matter what happens, he’ll take care of it. I believe in him," Shirley Lockwood said, her expression instantly brightening into a proud smile.

「The second-floor emergency room.」
Since Archie Lockwood’s arrival, he had watched a constant stream of tense-looking doctors and nurses rushing in and out.
He waited outside, his heart in a vise, barely daring to breathe.
Howard Rhodes first went to the second floor to exchange a few words with Archie Lockwood, then proceeded to another private hospital room.
The patient who had been admitted to the private room was Eleanor Bishop’s father, Harold Bishop.
He had fainted on the spot, overwhelmed by the sight of Eleanor Bishop lying in a pool of blood when he got out of the car. It had taken over ten minutes of emergency care before he was moved to the private room.
Howard Rhodes emerged from the room with a dark expression after speaking with Harold Bishop’s driver.
When Archie Lockwood saw Howard Rhodes approaching, he asked in a low, cold tone, "How is Eleanor Bishop’s father?"
"It’s nothing serious. He’ll probably wake up in a few hours."
"Mm."
Howard Rhodes saw that Archie Lockwood’s eyes remained locked on the doors to the emergency room. He thought for a moment before continuing, "Boss, Harold’s driver told me that he called Ms. Ross. He told her about Miss Bishop’s car accident and that Harold had collapsed. Ms. Ross refused to come to the hospital. She also said... that she and Harold had finalized their divorce this morning."
Archie Lockwood’s eyes snapped up, his hands clenched into fists. He growled, his voice low with fury, "Hah. Refused to come to the hospital? Is that woman trying to get herself killed?!" ’One is her husband, the other is her own daughter, and she actually refused to come to the hospital?’
"Boss, should I have my men drag her over here now?"
Picturing Ms. Ross, Archie Lockwood’s eyes narrowed dangerously. A cold smile touched his lips. "Hah. No need. If Ms. Ross wants to disown her family, we’ll grant her wish. The money I gave was for Eleanor, not for some Ms. Ross. Since they’re divorced, that check is as good as void."
"Yes, sir. I’ll see to it immediately."
Howard Rhodes responded in a cold tone, pulling out his phone and turning away to start making the calls.
But when Archie Lockwood saw another set of nurses emerge with a cart, he started to tremble violently. His legs felt weak, and he had to lean against the wall for support. Raising his hand to check his watch, he spoke with a mix of anxiety and impatience, "Howard, how long has Eleanor been in there? Go and ask! Why isn’t she out yet?"
"Yes, Boss. Don’t worry. Miss Bishop will be fine. She’s a good person; she’ll pull through." Howard had just finished giving his instructions over the phone when he heard his boss. He turned and rushed to reassure him.
"Howard, I’m giving you half an hour. Buy this hospital. Now! And call the director. I want to get into the operating room!" ’He couldn’t just keep waiting blindly like this, unable to see Eleanor. He was going to lose his mind.’
’Eleanor wasn’t dead yet, but he felt like he was going to die right here outside the operating room.’
’He was terrified of death. It was just like years ago, when he had returned home and clutched his father’s blood-soaked body. Just like when he was a small child, watching his mother slowly stop speaking, slowly die right before his eyes.’
’He was afraid, truly so afraid. He couldn’t go through another death! For him, that would be too cruel...’
