Chapter 742: Chapter 730: I Want You to Marry Me (18)
The car waited at the hotel entrance for more than ten minutes, but Eleanor Bishop never came out.
Archie Lockwood’s lips twisted into a self-mocking smile. He glanced at Rory, who was sitting beside him playing a game, and said in a low voice, "Let’s go."
’It doesn’t matter what happens to me; I don’t care.’
’I didn’t have much hope to begin with.’
’But for her to not even come see her own daughter...’
Eleanor Bishop sat on the sofa, clutching her phone and watching the time tick slowly by. She hadn’t moved an inch between three o’clock and three-thirty.
As the time crept closer to four o’clock, an ache grew in her heart.
’I know that if I leave now, I’ll never have a chance to see Rory again.’
’If only I could just hide in a corner and secretly take one picture as a keepsake!’
Clutching her phone, she shot to her feet. She broke into a limping run, heading out the door and down toward the lobby.
It was almost 3:50. ’Only ten minutes left, just ten minutes...’
’How am I supposed to get to the airport??’
’It takes at least half an hour to get to the airport from here, and that’s only with a string of green lights.’
As she ran into the hotel lobby, the receptionist spotted her and called out with a smile, "Excuse me, are you Miss Bishop?"
"Yes, that’s me..." Eleanor stopped.
"Oh, it’s just that a gentleman asked me to give this to you when he was checking out."
The receptionist held out a card. Face pale, Eleanor walked over and took it.
It was a bank card with a sticky note on the back.
"Eleanor Bishop, if you’re really that heartless, then have the guts to never show your face to us again! And I’ll make damn sure Rory goes her whole life without ever knowing a mother like you existed."
Reading the words, Eleanor’s face went deathly pale, and her heart clenched painfully.
’He’ll make sure Rory never knows I exist? For her whole life?’
’So that’s how much he hates me...’
Seeing Eleanor slide to the floor against the counter, the receptionist asked with concern, "Miss Bishop, are you all right?"
"I’m... I’m fine..." Eleanor forced a bitter smile and shook her head.
If Eleanor had only looked closer at the bank card, she would have seen that besides the sticky note, there was also a phone number and a line of tiny writing.
But she was in a daze, in no mood to notice anything.
She glanced at the clock on the wall. It was already past four. A faint, wry smile touched her lips again.
Eleanor pushed herself to her feet and dragged her exhausted body slowly, so slowly, toward the hotel entrance.
Just as she stepped out of the hotel entrance, her phone rang. She glanced at the caller ID, then tilted her head back, forcing the tears that were about to spill over back into her eyes. Forcing a smile, she answered, "Hello? Dad..."
"Eleanor, where are you right now?" Harold Bishop’s worried voice came through the line.
She glanced back at the hotel, her brow furrowing slightly. After scanning the nearby buildings, she said, "I’m at Vantus Tower!" As she spoke, Eleanor started walking toward the main road, preparing to cross to the tower on the other side.
"Okay, wait for me there. I’ll arrive in about ten minutes."
"Okay, got it." Eleanor replied with a smile and broke into a jog.
But, preoccupied with the phone call, she failed to look both ways. As she jogged out into the street, she didn’t see the car speeding toward her...
