Chapter 709: Chapter 699: Marry a Rich Man (Part 2)

’Otherwise, if Archie had recognized it was me, how could he not have reacted?’

After Louise Jordan left, it wasn’t long before Eleanor Bishop also exited the hotel. She hid behind a potted plant by the entrance, watching Archie Lockwood and his group from afar.

A little over ten minutes later, the sound of a helicopter filled the air.

Then, she saw a helicopter in mid-air and a ladder descending from it.

Only after she saw Archie Lockwood and his group board the helicopter and leave did she dare to come out.

She glanced at the time. It was already almost ten o’clock. So, instead of going back to continue the blind date, she hailed a taxi and went home.

In the car, her eyes reddened as she replayed what Louise Jordan had said.

The image of a young Rory—so cute and well-behaved—appeared in her mind.

’I wonder how my Rory is doing now?’

She arrived home half an hour later.

The moment she opened the door and stepped inside, a white object flew past her. Then, with a BANG, a cup smashed against the door and shattered on the floor.

"Eleanor Bishop, you have the nerve to come back!" Yara Ross shot up, pointing an angry finger at Eleanor as she roared.

Eleanor sighed, her eyes red. "Mom," she said in a low voice, "I’m tired tonight. Whatever it is, can we talk about it tomorrow?"

Hearing this, Yara Ross grew even more furious. "You’re tired? Where did you go that made you so tired? Eleanor Bishop, don’t tell me you’re tired from your blind date tonight?" ’She had spent so much money to have someone arrange this match, only for her own daughter to blow it off like this. How could she not be angry?’

’If I had known this would happen, I would have gone with her myself.’

"Mom, I really am tired tonight. I didn’t miss the appointment on purpose. Can I go apologize in person tomorrow?"

Yara Ross said furiously, "Eleanor Bishop, I see it now. You’re just stringing me along. All that talk about going on blind dates and marrying a rich man... Just look at how you’re dressed! Do you really think you’re old now? Or are you trying to force your father and me to get a divorce?"

"Mom, can you please stop pressuring me? I’m not stringing you along. I fell down, that’s why I couldn’t make it to the blind date." For the first time, Eleanor Bishop felt that just being alive was so exhausting.

’It was exhausting outside, but it’s even more exhausting at home.’

"Boss Archer is a big shot in Jevon! The fact that he even considered you and agreed to a blind date is a blessing you haven’t earned in several lifetimes! But you? You just stand him up without a single word. Eleanor Bishop, you’ve really got some nerve! Tell me, who gave you that nerve?!" ’Just yesterday she had promised so nicely, and today she goes and causes trouble, standing him up just like that.’

Eleanor Bishop said emotionally, "Mom, I will marry a rich man, I swear I will. But please, can you just let me be for today?"

"What sins did I commit to deserve such an unfilial daughter?"

"Mom, you didn’t commit any sins. I did. It was me."

"Eleanor Bishop, I’ll let it slide that you stood up Boss Archer this time. But if you dare pull any tricks on me for tomorrow’s blind date, you’ll see how I’ll teach you a lesson." At this, Yara Ross sat down on the sofa and slammed her hand on the table twice.

"I know. I’ll go to the blind date tomorrow and behave."

Seeing Eleanor agree, Yara Ross looked up and glared at her, her anger flaring up again. "Wash that filth off your face, and take off that god-awful wig."

"Got it."

As she watched Eleanor go to the bathroom, Yara Ross picked up a photo album from the table and began planning for tomorrow’s blind date.

In the bathroom, Eleanor took off the wig and removed all the makeup from her face. She stared into the mirror at the person with a deathly pale face, completely drained of color. A bitter smile touched the corners of her lips.

’In my current state, in this situation... what right do I have to ask for Rory back?’

’Even if Rory is with Archie Lockwood, without a mother’s love, at least her life will be a wealthy one. She won’t have to feel sad or suffer because of a lack of money.’

’At least Archie Lockwood can give her any life she could ever want. But me? I can’t give her anything. Nothing at all...’

"Rory, please don’t hate Mommy. Mommy is helpless right now. If I ever have the means in the future, I swear I’ll bring you back."
