Chapter 708: Chapter 699: Marry a Rich Man (2)

SMACK— The sound was even louder than the phone hitting the floor just moments before.

But what did that have to do with him?

His brow only furrowed for a second before smoothing out again. With steady steps, he walked past the woman and picked his phone up from the floor.

The woman’s body ached so much from the fall that she almost curled into a ball. She let out a soft groan, rubbing her waist as she sat up.

Archie Lockwood glanced at the woman’s hair—a messy bird’s nest—and then at her frumpy, matronly clothes. He took a step back in disgust, then looked down at his phone, opened the call history, and redialed the number.

She had fallen so hard she was in too much pain to stand, yet this man stood off to the side without a shred of sympathy, just fiddling with his phone and making a call. The woman’s anger flared. She pushed up her large, dark-rimmed glasses and lifted her head, ready to teach this ungentlemanly man a lesson. But the moment she looked up, time seemed to freeze. Her eyes widened in astonishment, her mouth hung open, but she couldn’t utter a single word.

Archie Lockwood tried calling several times, but the call wouldn’t go through. As his frustration grew, he felt a scorching gaze fixed on him.

He irritably tapped the phone against his palm a couple of times and raised his head to glare coldly at the woman before him.

The moment he looked up, the woman panicked and quickly bowed her head. So, when he looked over, all he saw was her nest-like hair.

The sight left Archie Lockwood deeply displeased.

’He didn’t know why he felt this way. Usually, if a woman offended him, he’d just shoot her a few cold glares at most. But today, even though he had urgent matters to deal with, he just couldn’t bring himself to let this clueless woman off so easily.’

"Lift your head," he commanded, his cold eyes fixed on her.

"..." The woman said nothing, her hands clasped tightly together, terrified of being recognized.

’She had imagined they might meet again in countless ways, but she had never, ever expected it to be in a situation this embarrassing.’

’Let alone the fact that she hadn’t intentionally made herself look ugly today—even as her usual self, she felt she no longer had the right to appear before him.’

’One was an emperor, high above the masses, looking down on everything.’

’The other, a frumpy woman with a street stall.’

’The chasm between them was so vast that she truly didn’t dare appear before him ever again.’

"Boss, we’ve found Rory." Just as an angry Archie Lockwood was about to force the woman to lift her head, Louise Jordan came rushing down the stairs.

"You found her?"

"Yes, we found her. She snuck back into the country by herself. She’s at Young Master Joyce’s house right now."

"She’s gotten completely out of hand. Get the plane ready. I’m going back to Tridell right now."

"Yes, sir."

With that, Archie Lockwood no longer had time for this damn woman. Phone in hand, he strode toward the hotel entrance.

As Louise Jordan passed the woman sitting on the floor, her brow furrowed slightly, and she paused.

Eleanor Bishop had looked up in surprise the moment she heard Louise Jordan’s voice. So when Louise looked down at her, Eleanor was already staring back nervously.

’Even though her face was dotted with spots and her hair was a total mess, not to mention the large, dark-rimmed glasses, she was confident that even her own mother wouldn’t recognize her.’

’But when she met Louise Jordan’s chilling gaze, her heart still skipped a beat.’

Louise Jordan’s lips curled into a cold smile. As she walked past, she muttered as if to herself, "I really don’t know what the Boss is thinking, pushing Rory so hard when she’s still so little that she had to run away. Sigh... It’s just as they say, a child without a mother has the hardest life."

Hearing Louise Jordan’s monologue, the color drained from Eleanor Bishop’s face. Her hands, which had been clasped together, were now clenched into tight fists. Her shoulders trembled with anxiety and fear.

When Louise Jordan stepped out of the hotel, she saw her boss and Howard Rhodes already waiting outside.

She thought about the woman she had just seen inside and stole a glance at her boss. He was as calm as if nothing at all had happened.

’She couldn’t help but wonder if her boss hadn’t recognized the woman at all.’
